I don’t know if this is a joke or not so forgive me if I sound arrogant, but this isn’t a bug this is a feature. Back in the day you couldn’t automatically go up and down slopes and movement around the world wasn’t smooth so you’re meant to stick to the floor going up and down a slope unless you jump. Given that the dash is grounded movement, it follows that rule.
This is actually a really cool feature from a game development perspective. Being able to dash at or away from enemies on a stairway is very specific and thoughtful game design
Well yeah imagine making a minecraft type staircase down (especially during boss arenas) and dashing into the air rather than dashing with the floor. Best detail in the game.
If you will manage to noclip fly, using cheats, you will get glued to the floor too, even considered fact that you can pass trough blocks and have no collision whatsoever.

Also that isn't broken. Imagine dashing down an incline and your non fall damage immune character falling down and die. Or if you want to jump after a dash but there's a tiny 3*1 hole in the ground, then you might be screwing up your jump. And I don't think this just magically happen without actually being coded in.
Mobility options in terraria is kinda broken. I wish terraria 2 nerf flying and running abit so that they don't have to balance the game by players being able to dodge every attack by just running away.

this also works with certain projectiles like the shadow beam staff, allowing you to attack enemies from an area they can’t reach you in
