Exactly, manga is also full of consistently great art, whereas the anime has some pretty funny (bad) art, animation and voice acting in some parts. The only big advantage the anime has over the manga is that there's some REALLY good moments in the anime, specifically with it's use of music. For an example of something better in the anime than in the manga, look at the end of the fight against Crocodile.
@@markitosevans1955 I'm guessing you watched One Piece dubbed? That's really unfortunate, I'm usually not a snob about subs vs. dubs but One Piece is an example where watching the dub objectively makes it a worse show.
Strange. I‘ve been reading One Piece since it‘s been released in Germany. That was like Feb 2001. That was before 9/11. It‘s been over 21 years now and I‘m no longer a student, I‘m a married man in my 40’s with my own family, my own property, a degree, a good job, yet I‘m still reading One Piece on a weekly basis. At the weekend, WaNoKuni finished with chapter 1053. Weird to imagine that we old folks already followed the series when this three passionate guys were still toddlers and I‘m being generous here. 😅 Someone claiming he caught up to One Piece in the last 3 weeks seems mindblowing to me considering I myself have dedicated half of my life reading the manga in realtime. 😂 Since the story seems to steer towards its final set of arcs now, I begin to ask myself what to do once we can read the final chapter. It will be a once in a lifetime experience though, that much‘s for sure. I can’t imagine how Oda himself will feel once he finishes the final panel and lays down the pen for good. Certainly a big part of my life, reading One Piece. I‘m curious to find out how it feels when it’s all wrapped up. Crossing my fingers for the most possible epic series finale ever! What is the One Piece? Soon we‘ll all find out! ✌️
I caught up to op in just 2 months... Funny how naruto was the reason I got into one piece. I didn't even know it existed before 2020. i saw op from a naruto powerscaling video and have been following it ever since. Two years have passed since this journey began I can't even imagine how you had to wait a week fir 21 years! Crazy isn't it. I'm almost done with my college now, so i dont have too much time to relax. But when I do, I will definitely be reading the next chapter of one piece. I'll be on this journey with you till the end :)
Wow! What a genuinely heartwarming comment. Thank you! 😊 Being a dedicaded One Piece fan somehow makes you a full-fledged member of a real-life Strawhat Grand Fleet, doesn't it? 🥹 I'm looking forward to unravel all remaining mysteries with all of you! 👍
No body may read this but I love to talk bout one piece I started watching One piece when it was in the Punk Hazard Arc and I was like 16 or 17 at that time the 1st 50 episode felt super childish to me the syrup village arc was kind of boring but then comes the baratie arc omg luffy punches thru don kreig shield and Zoro declared his loyalty and that got me hooked up then comes the Alabasta arc and after that My whole world was One piece I woke up in the morning watching one piece episodes after episodes I was feeling like I was the part of the crew Luffy became my best friend It just took me 2 months to complete anime and reading the manga then watching the movies When ever I feel down just go back to youtube and start watching one piece funny moments and it makes me happy Still today I get goosebumps whenever I rewatch that luffy punching celestial dragon scene I can't explain in words what's one piece is to me
One piece is a passion. Even though i can name countlss flaws in the anime i still watch it every week for the past 10 years and its still my favourite story with my favorite charachters
I love one piece but it defo is too long, but it’s worth it cos the plot is that good. I don’t get why people don’t think it’s not a valid reason to not watch a show.
@Assistant to the Regional Manager nah what I’m saying is it’s worth watching even if it’s long, but to appreciate one piece you need to watch it all, but some people simply don’t have the time to watch a long series and one piece isn’t even finished so there’s that too, it would take people a long time to watch it. And what I’m saying is that people think that it being “too long” is not a good enough reason to not watch it when actually people may actually want to watch it but they simply are unable to watch it because it so long
I started watching One Piece after I overheard someone in a class I had say they watched the entirety of The Office over ten times. I thought "If you can watch this long show a dozen times, I can watch this super-long show once."
Oda designed a pretty meta narrative, where the protagonists themselves cant wait to get to one piece and find out the end fo the journey (for us the end of the manga) and discover the secrets of the world, but Oda made sure to address that in manga almost speaking to readers and breking the 4th wall in one of the most memorable moments of the series (Luffy telling Usopp to shut up because he doesnt want a boring adventure). Also seeing Rogers finale fowitr example. Im sure when one piece ends, it wont jus tend and were going to be left with this void or whatever, Oda will make sure to address the audiences feelings looking back on the journey (because for us reading the manga was also a journey) and will give his thoughts through whatever meta narrative he uses with Lufyf and the Strawhats
It shouldn’t take 5 years to read One Piece. Totally not Mark read most of it in 5 months. And he’s reading it as part of his channel, otherwise he’d be done already.
I think there is a great benefit to the way he is reading it. reading a chunk at a time, and then going back and analyzing that chunk and talking to people before moving on. It is very effective when trying to digest all the details and information Oda puts in the manga.
Yeah I think it's way overhyped how long it is to read. Even if you read 50 chapters a week, which is probably 4ish hours, you can be caught up in 20 weeks, which is less than 5 months. And 4 hours a week isn't much at all. If you read a volume a day, which is like an hour you can be caught up in 3 and a bit months. And then once you're caught up it's like 35-40 chapters a year that you read in like 5-10 minutes weekly. It's not really as big of a commitment as people make it out to be.
It seems like a nightmare. At the time i started they literally release the 1000th episode. Thought it was going to be a chore and it ended up being the best journey I’ve been on
Yes! Everyone that has watched One Piece, has to have complained that One Piece has so many episodes, but you end up wanting more episodes once you reach the end. It’s also hell when you catch up to the anime cus you have to wait for weekly eps.

Honestly??? I recommend the manga obviously but tbh one piece isn’t family guy or something where its just going on forever for money’s sake. Everything has a payoff and so its not just 80 arcs of characters dragging their feet. So tbh the anime community with rushing to finish anime but like??? If you just start one piece, whether you wanna finish it immediately or take your time its all up to you tbh. Just start and when you get bored or tired, take a break and come back to it in a month. That’s literally what ive been doing with naruto for years. I still ain’t officially done with the series but tbh i dont mind. Nothing worse than forcing yourself to watch something you lost the spark for.

@@chbastard9666 I mean it depends on the arc like Naruto and Bleach while they could definitely fall into that for the most part the episodes were usually at least 18 minutes or more(and a full 2 if you were watching filler) so if like two thirds of those episodes were Bleach and Naruto that'd be way more than that
That was me back in 2008. It was a decade since I've stopped watching anime. Then, two of my friends started to argue which one was better: Naruto or Bleach. I watched both of them and couldn't reach a conclusion. So, I thought to myself, "Why not give a chance to One Piece"? One month and 380 episodes later, and went to friends I said: "You're both wrong. You lived a lie. One Piece is the only salvation.", and they laughed out loud. Until this day I NEVER convinced someone to watch One Piece. **cries at the corner**
I felt the same way about One Piece, especially starting out with the anime because the pacing is so different. Once I switched to reading the manga though, it’s gone by so past. I think I started reading in April, and now I’m around Chapter 925. Nearly to the point where I’m caught up to the anime and I don’t have to worry about too many spoilers. Great decision, One Piece is 10/10
I’m honestly thinking of that too, but it just sucks that it’s so long; I like having physical copies of volumes, but that definitely won’t be too ideal here.

Man, this is so relatable to me it's not even real. I put off getting into One Piece for years, even tried to get into the anime at one point before stopping after Whiskey Peak. When the pandemic started and I didn't really have anything else to do, I decided that I wanted to catch up just before chapter 1000 dropped. Man, am I happy I did. Just getting started on Wano now and it has easily become one of the best experiences of my life being able to just blast through this masterclass of story telling. Can't wait to be caught up so I can join in on the discussion happening in the community soon.

A friend of mine introduced me to One Piece 3 years ago, when there were about 950 chapters. I just read it, and caught back all the story in 6 weeks, and now I just follow every chapter release. While reading it I was like "Oh, still 200 chapters before chapter 500", then 3 days later "Omg now only 100 left". I was surprised by how fast I was going through the story
I think manga is better than the anime cuz u dont have to worry about fillers, its way fast and u even get to see stories about side characters on each chapter covers...but still the animation in wano, voice acting and the anime brings the characters to life...i read the manga till wano and watched the anime after
Getting into One Piece after watching spoilers is truly a nightmare if you are that impatient, because you will be constantly waiting for characters to appear and fights to happen, meanwhile you are watching Luffy fight a clown
I kinda get where connor's coming from, i was one of those ppl that stayed away from One Piece bc of the length, but bc of quarantine i just gave it a shot on a whim and read the manga (since my friends heavily recommended the manga instead of the anime to me) honestly it's legit one of the best experiences i've had, i even found myself actually forgetting what ch im already on or how long it actually is, cause u really get immersed in the story, it's so damn good
as someone whos caught up to OP, the way i would describe it is - 10 main characters from seperate tv shows get together and go on adventures influencing everyone they meet and helping each other achieve their dreams. I can almost compare one story arc in OP to a entire separate show
As someone who caught up to One Piece few weeks ago, i can confirm that, before you start watching it's probably gonna be "it's too much" and after you're all caught up it became "it's not enough"
@JOGLO JOSHEM I just finished Enie’s Island. For me, once Luffy put his hat on Nami at Arlong Park, I was hooked. I usually take a few days or even a week or two between arcs, but I’ll knock an entire arc out in like a few days. I hesitated to start it for years but now that I’m finally in to it, I’ve been blowing throw it.
@@locksley12 IKR!!? it's such a good anime, tho its one of those shows where new things happen every episode (which are the cases). they don't exactly involve anything of the main story, only happens in few episodes apart maybe, and the movies are fucking god tier.
We gotta praise Oda for being able to single-handedly write a consistent and amazing story with such a well built world and that it's still running to this day
@24 Preetish Pratihari 11E i often wonder if people noticed. In alabasta luffy punches the roof of a cave early on. Then smack Crocodile in a bigger way. Dressrosa he breaks the ring in Colosseum. later smack doflamingo the land breaks the same way. Foreshadow king lol
@24 Preetish Pratihari 11E Really is. Attack on Titan also has an amazing foreshadowing, but Oda manages to build this world full of details in a span of 20plus years
I started one piece late last year and it didn't feel like a daunting task to me, idk why. I'm almost caught up now (after many long breaks) and i kinda don't want to catch up, especially since it's in its last arc. It's so good and there's so much depth, especially later in the series that i don't want it to end/wait for the weekly release. If you haven't watched it, don't think about how long it is, just give it a try and keep watching if you like it, discover the world at your own pace and fall in love with the characters on your own time, it will always be there for you.
I think people don't realize just how well put together the world of One Piece is. Usually, when a series of any kind goes on for that long, it tends to go off the rails, add stuff that doesn't matter, or drop a lot in quality. But in OP, every single one of the almost 1000 chapters is integral to the story and it just continues to build upon itself. It's not just a collection of arcs that have little to nothing to do with each other.
One of the most amazing parts is how Oda sets up future arcs. Hey remember that character from 2 arcs ago that felt kinda one note? Yeah well they’re extremely important and without them an entire culture will crumble from corruption.

The time most people spend watching TV or something like that, for me (at least for more than a year) it was watching One Piece and that way of consuming it was even better because I couldn't watch more than 2 or 3 episodes every night so when there was a cliffhanger I just had to wait until the next day which hyped me up a lot. Honestly, the anime can be a little tedious and at the time I really wasn't into reading manga but luckyly there are now some places where One Piece's filler is cut from the episodes and they just upload them almost exactly as how it is in the manga. Now I'm waiting every week for a chapter of the best work of fiction ever made, best decision in my life.

The reason I fell for one piece was the world building and the reality that the strahats journey would be long and hard to reach the one piece. The political and social dilemma between pirates and the world government is so interesting
The thing here is people dont have the privilege to watch animes multiple episodes a day. By the time you watch the 100th episode you would have forgotten almost every side characters names and other side plots. Where you could watch 12 and 24 episode animes that you would know the entire story. I have no regrets Update: I caught up, and I'm back at Skypiea because I have separation issues.
i always recommend 100% reading the manga....The pacing of the anime is so slow to me, and each chapter is so densely filled with dialogue that it's just better to read.
@@EduardoGarcia-zf3wo dude i have a question for u why do u think people like op anime so much i mean i know different people have different taste and opinions But if you like the mangas that is one thing but the anime have so much problems Like op anime . Has bad pacing everyone knows that ( dresrosa one of the top arc in manga is ruined in anime thanks to the garbage pacing ) , fillers i am not talking about filler episode but biller scenes in cannon episode there are many op episodes which has 5 to 10 min of cannon content and the rest are just fillers ( dont get me wrong if these fillers/anime original is actually good or atleast ok then that's good but most of the time they are bad and makes the episode worse ) , anime recap syndrome ( there are so many episode in op where the first 5 to 7 min of episode are recap of previous episodes ) , animation i personally don't have problems with anime but many say op have a bad animation
Orange town and especially syrup village had terrible pacing issues. The show improved a lot in that aspect since then, at least way up until dressrosa from what i've heard.
The biggest argument I hear from someone about why they don't want to watch One Piece is that it's long. But like they said, One Piece is just THAT good, that you DON'T want it to end. You'll be happy that there are that many episodes. I know I am. Also, after watching all of Naruto, HunterXHunter, Bleach, and basically most long-running shounen, I love being able to stick with something for so long. Y'all can't tell me, you've never finished an anime and been like, "what am I going to do with my life now?" or had that empty feeling after finishing an anime, and 12 episodes and even 24 episodes go quick.
Well my argument is that my friend who’s watching it currently says it gets really good in the 400’s. And it being good or not is subjective. The problem with it being almost 1000 episodes is that you don’t know when it’s going to get good for you. If it gets good for you at all. That’s the problem with it. If u like it from the get go, then great ! But if you don’t, and you are waiting and waiting and waiting for it to get good... there’s over 1000 episodes.
I had that feeling with A Place Further than the Universe. It was such a bitchslap in my face like "what the hell you're not doing anything with your life" but it's also such a feelsgood anime that really draws you in. I didn't want that to end. It was like experiencing a better reality. I wanted that to be my life. So off with me to college to become a scientist and live among the penguins. Going on to Year 2 towards a Biology degree. This anime really turned my life around. But this is all to tie in that One Piece gives very similar feelings of just wanting to live on a permanent adventure with your friends, it's really fucking good and best of all it doesn't end
@@freedom8163 That’s a you problem tbh, when I watched one piece the show wasn’t boring and it wasn’t super fun either until I got further in, I’d say Arlong park is when I really got into it I think, honestly it’s been like 10 years or so so I could be off but what I’m trying to say is just watch the show even if you takes you 100 years, watch an episode then watch another next week or something, watch at your own pace, it personally took me 8 years to catch up lol cause I binged like 300 episodes then stopped for 3 years then binged 200 episodes and stopped etc. One piece is still my number one anime to this day cause of the journey I’ve had with the show
@@yourdaddy8605 my point is, if you don’t like it from the first few episodes... then it’s not going to be worth 1000 episodes to figure out if u like it or not. Which is why a lot of people stray away from one piece. They don’t know how long it’ll take for them to like it, if they ever even end up liking it at all. It’s not worth watching 1000 episodes to find out if u don’t like it from the first few to 100 episodes.
I’m so happy I picked up One Poece back in September. I’ve been endless bingeing. I’m more than halfway through Dressrosa. Marineford and Enies Lobby were amazing
I remember when I first saw One Piece (manga in the library), I thought the art style looked silly and wasn't into it lol But I'm a huge fan of it now, I started watching/reading it during a really hard time in my life. I have such fond memories of staying up late with my brother in my apartment, laughing at Whitebeard's laugh. One Piece helped with getting a boyfriend (tho I'm single now), it made me bond with friends and coworkers. For me, it's not only the story I love but the stories it's made in my life as well. Fond memories I can look back on instead of the shitty ones from before it all.
Most fans(including myself) whose reasons for watching/reading One Piece complained about length before deciding to get into it. After that, they figure out it's not long enough.
He's how I've been dealing with One piece for the last 6 years: I watch 50 episodes, and then I wait for a year to watch another 50. That way I won't have to deal with the lack of content since each episode it's worth like 10-15 minutes.
@@byslow4563 Some arcs are too long to wait, like Dressrosa. But believe me, there is no problem going back at all. That 3-4 minute recap at the beginning can be useful after all. hahaha
@@xrenzo1991 I do the same 😂 except instead of every 50 eps I do like 100s of eps, not even intentionally. It’s only when I got to ep 900 that I decided to wait every 50 eps and binge watch
Honestly I started the one piece manga on a total whim at age 11 in 2018 not knowing how big of a commitment it would be. Easily one of the best decisions I have ever made.
I started One Piece on May 10 and Im on episode 306 right now. I still get enough sleep, watch seasonal animes and when an OP arc ended I would binge watch a different anime on my watch list BUT I still remember what happened on the last OP arc I watched. I'm just enjoying OP, no rush on watching, its not a race.
@@Rhyiuk hey man, you're lucky that your first anime was a masterpiece. Cause I can guarantee you that like 70-80% of anime fans you'll meet had either watched a shounen like Naruto or some trashy power fantasy harem anime
Weebs that would watch 500 episodes of naruto and wont watch one piece cause it’s too long disgust me the most. At least he’s consistent with his views of not making commitments to long anime.
I’d recommend reading the manga, not because, “Toei bad,” but because it allows one to have a great degree of control over the pacing, especially if you’re a fast reader. It takes me about the same amount of time to read 5 volumes volume as it does to watch one episode, even at my slowest, I can still read around a volume’s worth of content in about 20 minutes. I’m not trying to flex or anything, I’m just saying if you’re like that, definitely read the manga.
Exactly, a lot of "I want to catch up to chapter xx" burn through all of it, and probably miss halve of the good stuff. Use the Anime to enhance the Manga experience, but take your time, this show is running for 20+ years, it won't die if you need a year to catch up.
Heres the problem. Theres a lot of people, including myself, who suffer from Aphantasia. We have no imagination. Therefore, we cant imagine the fights as we read. Its black and white pictures. Anime is better for that reason.
I had to convince a friend of mine and i just showed him the "The Breathtaking World Of One Piece" youtube video from 2021 on youtube. And it hit like a truck. We started a 2 months ago and we are already in the beautiful Water Seven Arc. I've seen the anime till episode 1010. Now starting over. I am still enjoying every second of it. The easy thing to do is read the manga. No filler, and you can read faster than you watch.
The only filler everyone should watch is G8 arc
Unpopular opinion here, i think op manga is worse than the anime. Too much text

Someone claiming he caught up to One Piece in the last 3 weeks seems mindblowing to me considering I myself have dedicated half of my life reading the manga in realtime. 😂
Since the story seems to steer towards its final set of arcs now, I begin to ask myself what to do once we can read the final chapter.
I'll be on this journey with you till the end

No body may read this but I love to talk bout one piece
I started watching One piece when it was in the Punk Hazard Arc and I was like 16 or 17 at that time the 1st 50 episode felt super childish to me the syrup village arc was kind of boring but then comes the baratie arc omg luffy punches thru don kreig shield and Zoro declared his loyalty and that got me hooked up then comes the Alabasta arc and after that My whole world was One piece I woke up in the morning watching one piece episodes after episodes I was feeling like I was the part of the crew Luffy became my best friend
It just took me 2 months to complete anime and reading the manga then watching the movies
When ever I feel down just go back to youtube and start watching one piece funny moments and it makes me happy
Still today I get goosebumps whenever I rewatch that luffy punching celestial dragon scene
I can't explain in words what's one piece is to me
One piece is a passion. Even though i can name countlss flaws in the anime i still watch it every week for the past 10 years and its still my favourite story with my favorite charachters
"It's too long" says every One Piece fan ever. Once all caught up, goes through the agonizing pain of waiting for the next volumes.
This
Yeah
Just like Rayleigh said to Robin:
"Dont be too hasty. The conclusion you'll reach might be different from what we found"

Thats true honestly
I was thinking of how he read it in 5 months & managed to upload breakdowns all in that time when conner said that too
I think there is a great benefit to the way he is reading it. reading a chunk at a time, and then going back and analyzing that chunk and talking to people before moving on.
I think its the reverse. If he wasn't reading half an arc minimum for his job he would have taken longer.
@Danyal 13 I WASN'T EVEN BORN WHEN IT CAME OUT

Yes! Everyone that has watched One Piece, has to have complained that One Piece has so many episodes, but you end up wanting more episodes once you reach the end. It’s also hell when you catch up to the anime cus you have to wait for weekly eps.

Arguably, the only thing that has gotten a bit worse over time, is that there isn't *enough* details. That it isn't *longer*. That's saying something.

I remember watching the opening songs of future episodes because I couldn’t wait to meet each Strawhat. And I remember the feeling I got when I realised there was no way it was ending any time soon.
One piece is so good , it can't be described in words. Once in a lifetime experience i swear.
Yeah, and I'm afraid that some people won't be able to experience it in their life even though it could do them a lot of good.
I mean, it helped a lot of people through depression.
Yeah, and so are insanely other great animes like Akira, GTO or Berzerk.
@@spikeyslug1717 I have not read Berserk but people say it rivals One Piece manga, does it?
@@glory1950 yes one piece manga and berserk are probably the best pieces of fiction I’ve read, I can’t choose personally which one I like more they are both absolutely amazing but so different at the same time
One piece is repetitive garbage and the main character has little to no character development. Convince me otherwise
I feel like watching One Piece takes longer than reading One Piece.
No shit sherlock
@@scorpionrealms7847 No shit Shuckle
yeah thats kind of how manga works
@@scorpionrealms7847 It was just in response to what they were talking about which is longer. 🙈
In the case of One Piece there is a lot of filler to stall because the anime caught up with the manga a lot and had to wait for the manga to update.
FR
I cringed so hard when Joey said that One piece also had an extended Ending, when they dropped endings when they decided to do extended Openings more than a decade ago

I watched a couple clips about the wano arc and thought "that is fk insane i wanna read that" watched 25 episodes got bored outta my mind. Then i thought "yknow what imma catch up" and i started the manga. That was 3 months ago. Now im at chapter 650 and it's such a good series. I have no regrets
Update: I caught up, and I'm back at Skypiea because I have separation issues.
i always recommend 100% reading the manga....The pacing of the anime is so slow to me, and each chapter is so densely filled with dialogue that it's just better to read.
Of course go bacck and watch the anime for the epic fight scenes, but that's it lol
@@EduardoGarcia-zf3wo yep
@@EduardoGarcia-zf3wo dude i have a question for u why do u think people like op anime so much i mean i know different people have different taste and opinions
But if you like the mangas that is one thing but the anime have so much problems
Like op anime .
I also got the "what do I do now" from Parasyte. It's got a great plot with action and romance and leaves you some existentialist questions
Ohhh dressrosa, thats the arc i stop for like 4 years hope you mannege.
yo if dressrosa becomes a drag, check out One Pace (edits the bad pacing out) or just start the manga
I've gotten into one piece on the 15th of September this year and now today I'm in episode 847. I don't regret watching one piece. It's amazing

@@ivorii8205 hahaha, don't forget to breathe!
I remember when I first saw One Piece (manga in the library), I thought the art style looked silly and wasn't into it lol
But I'm a huge fan of it now, I started watching/reading it during a really hard time in my life.
He's how I've been dealing with One piece for the last 6 years:
I watch 50 episodes, and then I wait for a year to watch another 50.
That way I won't have to deal with the lack of content since each episode it's worth like 10-15 minutes.
Wouldnt it be better to just wait until an arc is done and watch all of it after that?
@@byslow4563 Some arcs are too long to wait, like Dressrosa. But believe me, there is no problem going back at all. That 3-4 minute recap at the beginning can be useful after all. hahaha
Speaking of such, it's that time of the year again.
Episode 950 is right there... *receiving shonen recap vibes*
@@xrenzo1991 I do the same 😂 except instead of every 50 eps I do like 100s of eps, not even intentionally. It’s only when I got to ep 900 that I decided to wait every 50 eps and binge watch

I started One Piece on May 10 and Im on episode 306 right now. @@abuDA-bt6ei I have watched over 139 anime's in a year since I just got into it but naruto and one piece never got my attention
The dark side does hold strange powers. Takes me an hour average to read 1 volume of manga
Reading makes me sad. I honestly can’t read books like that at all
NO. no sound. no color. not moving. worst platform if you wanna see the action.
I don't know why but it's just magical.
