Very cool indeed,I worked at a Chrysler dealership in the mid 80s to early 90s,the glhs is one of my favorite cars, your car is a pocket rocket 🚀 literally!
You brought back some memories, that really made my day. Restoring something, from your grandfather, really got to me brother.as well as. Your buddy helping you, good stuff man. I'm sure you already know, but hold onto this my friend. Time rolls by so fast, its just mind numbing. I hope your folks are really proud of you, and tell you that also. I had an '85 glh, it was econinocal, giving unreal smiles per gallon.
I am currently building a Plymouth Caravelle with the same engine thanks so much for the video as I keep doing research the more I am inspired to build my car.
Great video a lot of effort was put into it and them guy's almost deserve a metal, Like there a great vehicle, I paid 650 for a simuler 1 and it's got me stock around 5,000 km's yet to keep it going i'm probably around the same area as these guy's.
My dad had the Chrysler Horizon, same as your car. He then went to Chrysler Charger 1984. If you like the 2.2 Engine go with the charger it's way more air dynamic.
Awww sick build.. first car was an Omni, mint condition. Always love the GLH and GHL-S. But why’d you paint those original GLH side Skirts and lower bumper valence!!?
Front left rotor fitted in wrong way, check your right rotor and if is in same way they must be side changed. Yes, some very expensive Mercs Bi-Turbos fits from factory one front rotor in wrong way, because they have a very bad detail, uses the same rotor drill-groove pattern for both rotors. Drills-grooves must be fitted in "aerodinamical" shape.
I have an 88 base model non turbo. I plan on engine swapping it with pt cruiser turbo. Has any one done it, if so what are some of the problems I would run into.
My friend had one and beat my other friends cobra mustang after giving the mustang a rolling start. My mustang friend who wanted to race him in the first place claimed cheatongbcause the omni took off before the mustanwas 5 cars ahead still at a rolling start for the mustang who lost by 10 cars epoc
Thanks! As far as price, it comes down to how much you want to pay as well as how long you want to wait.. unless you have someone you know who does it, it can be a nightmare. I waited 2.5 YEARS for this car to come back painted!! And paid $3800..
LMMFAO! Dodge Omni, 0-50 is just under 123.00 secs. Why would anyone in their right mind, or intoxicated mind want to do anything to a car that resembled a TV screen from the rear. Came with four donut size tires, and was the slowest thing on four wheels ever built back in the 80’s! I understand it was your grandfathers , and it was passed on to you. That was a grocery getter, transportation to get one self to bingo hall on the weekends. I can’t stress enough shot for many times I got caught behind one of those Omni’s out in the highway out at a traffic light, and was deprived of moving forward at the pace I wanted to drive it excellerate from.
From wiki: Performance was impressive, with just 6.5 s needed for 0-60 mph (97 km/h) and 14.8 s for the quarter mile (402 m) run. Top speed was 135 mph (217 km/h). That was 35 years ago in '86. So thats a STOCK 8 valve 2.2 Factory rated @ 175hp 175 detuned tq His last dyno showed almost 250whp 300tq (1k shy of redline). What are you comparing it to?
Wow what an awesome video it made me smile I can't believe how wildly fast these cars can go your grandpa is proud what a beautiful job

Wish i had another Omni/Horizon of this vintage! THEY WERE REALLY FUN, LOVABLE CARS! I wish newer MoPars were NEARLY as good!
I love this video, it’s pure and honest. Car looks great!
Gardo Santiago thanks! I appreciate that, it’s my car, but my buddy who posted the video did all the work of putting it together
That is a awesome little omni. Thank you for preserving it.
I am currently building a Plymouth Caravelle with the same engine thanks so much for the video as I keep doing research the more I am inspired to build my car.
I love the green with the black stripe! Great car! I just got one and want to fix it up so bad. Soon....

Awww sick build.. first car was an

Awesome ride
Bad ass hatch... Awesome.
I bet you a dollar that your car would get a hundred Smiles a gallon from your grandpa
Bobby Brummett thanks man.. the car definitely reminds me of him every time I drive it, another reason I’ll do whatever I have to to keep it alive
this is basically the muscle car of hatchbacks
Nice car man!
Awesome story bud..
Matthew Mclaughlin thanks! I appreciate the interest :) it’s been a ride for sure and in the process of another engine swap
your grandpa is looking down with a big smile nice omni
Where did you get the slotted/vented rotors you had on there with the 4 lug pattern? Any good websites/info on doing the 5-lug conversion?
What coilovers are those what vehical were they for?
Very nice
Yes, interesting build.
holy hell that's fucking awesome. How does it run and is it still your daily driver?
Cool 😎 Car

Awesome dude! Love to see it! I sounds faster than my Omni lol
I can't imagine the number of people that probably think your awesome Omni is a Golf...
I like it
Nice
How are you running nos. And turbo at the same time without blowing up the head
It’s all in the size of the shot and controlling when the shot hits using a window switch.
WOW!!
I have an 88 base model non turbo. I plan on engine swapping it with pt cruiser turbo. Has any one done it, if so what are some of the problems I would run into.
You should swap it with an SRT 4 neon engine though, would be fitting for it.
@@metalpunk1234 pt cruiser 2.3 turbo engines are pretty much the same as srt4 engines.
@@MM_45 huh, I did not know that, thanks for letting me know. Lol
What hood is that?

How much did it cost to get it repainted? I'm thinking of saving to get my Omni repainted and want to know what I'm in for.
1500 cheap but nice, 2500 good, 3000 multi-coat enamel. 1987-89 Buicks with enamel+clearcoat option still look showroom today.
@@takeadayofff cool thanks! Love the color btw.
Thanks!
