An invitation to the Queen's coronation is something that will still be a valuable piece of history for as long as you have it, the older the better! Imagine an invitation to the coronation of a Queen that was 500 years old! Priceless piece of history!!
Oh my. You can tell your husband has grown up with this , he's so calm and very typical British. Your definitely not British. I love the contrast. Beautiful
I very much enjoy the contrast of their personalities too. I made a friend in a hostel in Munich and we vibed well personality wise but culturally we had little quirks that annoyed each other. Such as me an American speaking loudly and full of energy and excitement and him calm, collected and thoughtful.
I’m an old expat Brit’, love your videos.I paint and would just love to paint your lovely gardens.I so appreciate that such families as yours work so hard to keep these great houses alive. You have shouldered a huge burden because it is really hard work to keep it all going in modern times, I think most of us understand that. I applaud your energy and wish you very well with this mammoth task. Thank you.
As an American, I understand Julie’s enthusiasm about finding historical pieces. Considering most things in this country are not as old and usually most even preserved. It’s fun to discover the history of a place, especially one you live in. Britain is filled with rich history. I enjoy watching the discoveries. I would be just as excited if I were there.
Recently found this gem of a channel, please do parts 2 and 3. The two of you are adorable together and I love the banter with American and British priorities/styles. Thank you
Luke's mannerisms and his comfort in talking to Julie's viewers is relaxing, calm and interesting. He is playful with Julie when she has the desire to contribute to Luke's conversation and that is when Luke reassures the viewers everything is done in playfulness and fun. Luke, Julie's husband, is a charming guy and the make and interesting couple. Thanks to both for sharing.
Hi Julie, Fi here! You and Luke are so funny and make a really lovely couple. Thank you for being YOU (the both of you). I'm not too sure if you know that we Brits, are not generally allowed access like this to big houses and natural private behaviour of their owners. We're normally more stiff upper lipped about hings, so it's a real treat to watch the pair of you enjoying, sharing and just being YOU! Thank you so much for the enjoyment you give us poor mortals who sit and watch you with delight :0) x
I'm so very envious!! It must be fascinating to explore this place and also discover old documents. I have a program of the wedding of HRH Elizabeth II. and it's one of my most prized possessions. Someone gave it to me because I love royal family history.
You could have a “paint out” and invite artists to come and paint at Mapperton. We have a Utopian community here in Indiana that does this for the “first brush” of Spring.
I love the gardens! They are so beautiful. I would love to have visited this wonderful place. I have loved gardening for years and I know there is planning. Hours of it! And then also hours of work. I am 70 now, so I can’t do much of it now. The house is amazing! I would come and clean the cobwebs down. Sorry! I can’t climb steps anymore. I love your personalities and your sense of humor. You two are great!
Love that final view. A good cleaning of the webs, dusting, glass cleaning and oiling the wood. That room even without curtains would be lovely. Thank you so much for today's tour.
Yes!!! More videos of hidden areas of Mapperton. I love learning more about this branch of the Montagu family. My 12th great grandfather was Sir Edward Montagu - my branch descended from his son Charles (down to the Barons North) and the Earls of Sandwich descended from his other son Sidney. Happy Christmas from a California Montagu cousin ⛄🎄🎅
It’s nice to see my cousin sharing his duties of keeping the family treasure of history alive and safe keeping. American English kids is more fun and crazy together. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. Your American wife is so funny. She really makes life joyful and sweet! I love your parents! What a great job in preservation of the families heirlooms.
It reminds me of a time, a few years ago, that I climbed up two steep ladders (after a bell ringing competition) to stand on a tiny platform next to the church bell in an ancient church in the Cotswold. In my previous home I loved exploring my cellar. In my parents home in the back garden when it was landscaped we found an old WWII shelter with steps leading down underground. Whilst it was being excavated a swan from the near by blockhouse gardens decided to move in. Happy memories.
More parts! Yes please 🌼 As a child, my Nanna used to tell me she had a secret passage under her stairs and when she went down it she had to bring a candle and a bird to know when she was running out of oxygen. I was such a gullible child 🙈 ... but it was fun 💗
Yay!!! 🌼🌹🌼 I grew up beside a Norman tower house with rumours of a secret tunnel. Maybe it was too many adventure stories as a child but I love secret spaces and "treasure" seeking 🙈😊 Looking forward to seeing what you've uncovered!!!
What lovely spaces! Have you ever considered setting up a residency program for artists? I’m a professional painter and would love to have an opportunity to paint in spaces such as you showed us today. There could even be classes given. If you do decide to develop something please let me know. I’ve been an art professor at Parsons School of Design for well over a decade and live and work in Brooklyn. What amazing possibilities!
I highly applaud the suggestion of having an artists in residency program at Mapperton! I would certainly love the opportunity to create works of art with oil paint at Mapperton!
Love that last room, mill house? I'd clean it well and put some good solid oil on the wood, it looks thirsty and plan an afternoon tea in it.What a great place to enjoy a new view.
Visiting all these kind of secret places is my childhood dream. As a child I lived in a very small part of 100 years old, dilapidated house. I dreamt about finding secret rooms, tunnels, things, treasures. I can't belive that somene lives my perfect dream being surrounded by such beauty.
Clear the Cobwebs, let us see how quickly you 2 can transform the space into something adorably quaint & very usable. I did that in those very spaces a few decades ago when I was given the chance to stay at this very property. There was a very friendly cat (a mouser) that patrolled the garden & it stayed at night in the little to tiny groundskeeper cottage. I sat out there, took photos, drew pictures & painted. It was so peaceful & restorative. Creatively constructive space. Back then there were strict rule against filming & photos so I couldn’t TH-cam it.
Brilliant video! As soon as I saw the ‘bath’ I couldn’t believe you hadn’t been for a cold immersion dip in it! The summerhouse definitely IS charming as it is, but imagine it cleaned, curtains back up, tea on a table, plump country style armchairs and a fire crackling away - bliss!
Came upon this--at last a series based in England and not France!! Mapperton is beautiful and it's lovely that you both appreciate it and don't take it for granted.
I just want to say that you both are the sweetest couple in England that I have seen besides William and Kate. I love all the History of your Family and Manor, the fact that your Beautiful wife is as excited as I would be as an American going across the pond to visit. Cannot wait to see more of your beautiful home and discoveries. Thank you Camera people as well.
So awesome, love seeing the invitations to the coronations and signed picture of Queen Victoria. Can we see these up close? I would have been as excited as Julie too :)
Loved this show! Yes I want to see more secret places. Also, your husband is a riot, I love his sense of humor! You both make a great couple, funny and interesting.
So, this is my favorite episode so far... looking forward to seeing more of these Secret Places episodes. I particularly liked the summer house. I'd furnish it with a couple of club chairs and turn it into a smoking room (although I don't smoke), or a fortress of solitude or something. I'm an electrician here in Canada and fascinated by original electrical work... having a light and power in there was probably a big deal at one time. Great work Montagus! Keep it up!
U2 wrk so well together & ya Steven. u make me laugh. Love ur little church. Room with a view in grotto. Love this series and live show Thanx a bunch J&L ❤️
I really enjoy you and Luke together !! You should have a "Limbo" fundraiser. I'm sure many of us would donate to see you and Luke doing the "Limbo"!! Queen Elizabeth's pool and the Summer House/Mill are amazing!! Thank you for this wonderful video!! Love from Vermont
I love that last room. I would make it my sewing room. Does Mapperton have an elevator to get to the other floors of the Manor? Are the grounds or a bedroom handicapped-friendly, especially the bathroom? The more I see of the estate the more I love it.

IF I was the lady of the house as she is .....I just adore her !
Loving seeing you exploring all the wonderful nooks and crannies at Mapperton, even as we would be wandering around in wonder. Thank you for sharing your home.
Luke should host special tours where he tells some things that are true and other things that are just his silly stories. End of the tour, everyone takes a little quiz and to see if they can tell which things were true and which were not. Anyone who gets all answers correct gets a special prize.
Loved this. I’m surprised your kiddos haven’t made use of these secret little places as club houses or hidey-holes away from dreaded parental watch. ❤️😊
Sending you, your husband, and your parents in law Greetings from California! I love that the American is excited about the invite to the coronation and the Englishman is excited about the New Orleans honorary citizenship.
He needs to learn NOLA ;-)
I am a native New Orleanian so I’m very happy Stephen is excited about his grandfather being an honorary citizen.
NOLA is wonderful, but I thought he was being sarcastic.

the gumbo has nothing on the original invitations 😂
And it’s unframed and unprotected 😳 Smart to frame it Julie 😜♥️

Hello 👋 Tracy, how are you doing?
You and your husband are a crack up. Thank you for sharing your story with us. From Bakersfield California USA.

I have a coronation mug from June 2nd 1953, its gorgeous lemon yellow 💛

I'd be curious to learn how the house was retrofitted with modern plumbing, the boiler ssystem, electricity, etc.
That would make a fascinating series in itself: ("I'm Tom Silva. This week on 'This Really, Really, Really Old House' ...")
We don’t “retrofit” , we introduce .
