People dont realize, you really need to keep your tapes clean, to keep your vcr clean. Put an old dirty tape in a brand new vcr, and those vcr heads are already dirty. I bought an RTI Tapechek machine to maintain my collection.

thank you for this, my neighbor was getting rid of one of these TVs for free so my boyfriend and i took it to hook up to his ps2. we're old enough to remember VCRs but still just too young to totally remember how to use the tech lol so this was very helpful!
Your Emerson has a very similar layout as mine. Did you have any luck cleaning out the battery acid in your remote? I might work on mine today. Just going to re-heat the solder joints inside.
Sadly mine went to the trash. The vcr stopped working and as a result the tv would automatically shut off after 5 seconds. I wanted to use it for just the tv but that was not possible because of a bad sensor. Thanks for stopping by my friend.
@@handyman-network I had a 19” Magnavox 19PR15 model for a long time and played alot of games on it and watched tv on it via an analog converter. Just yesterday, it randomly just went out. I smelled a smokey scent and the power would no longer turn it on, so I suspect maybe a capacitor blew out on it. Anyways, it was a 1997 model so probably EOL and didnt bother to open it up. Its just how it goes when a CRT reaches 25 years of age with no servicing
I literally just got this model today. Works great. Only downside is that it didn't come with a remote, so I'm gonna have to buy another one, so I can use the FM radio.
Can you help me how to fix the volume i have almost same model toshiba my baby touch remote control and it is no working the volume was ok and now not.
Judging by the Osmosis Jones (2001) trailer, the VHS tape is probably recorded the same week and a few days before the movie hit theaters at that time.
Try to get a universal remote that could work for that TV u just got to get the one that has ever tv name on there if it has the Sylvania brand name then try to use the codes for that
I have this same tv and we've used it for years for my kids to watch vhs on. Now only 1 vhs (the fox and the hound 😂) will work properly in there. The others all look as if the tracking is messed up and make a loud noise while playing also. My son is 6 now and we've also tried our old video games on it. Sega works perfectly, n64 has the same tracking issues as the vhs! Any clue on how to fix it bc I love the unit. It's great for kids!
@handyman-network because the vcr was made by Funai. Funai makes dog sh## Vcr units that can also be found in Emerson, Magnavox, Phillips, Slyvania, etc.
I am not a fan of those TV/VCR OR TV/DVD combos. I like them to be dedicated simply because they weigh less, have less mechanical parts in them, are way easier to work on, and they're more reliable, have more features, and are less likely to fail. If something goes wrong with any of those TV combos fixing them will be annoying, and they're cheaply made, too. That isn't something I would want to mess with. I mean they are good at what they do. Cheap, can fit into small spots, etc. For another other purpose I want them to be separate. I don't see a reason to own them personally. They an evil necessity. It's like buying a scooter instead of a car.

And some vcrs have a way to the text if your heads are clogging/getting dirty.

I have a similar looking 13” Sylvania CRT (without the VCR player) and it plays old videogames really well. Amazing bright and vivid colors.
