    When booking long distance flights, I often make use of the transit destinations and time my flight so I can fit in a day tour. It's like getting 2 destinations at the price of one. Sometimes the longer the transit, the cheaper the flight. So it's a win win. Some airports even offer transit tours. But please check visa requirements beforehand.

    Ex travel agent here. Re flights, if you’re planning a multi city itinerary, consider booking your regionals (usually two extra) in conjunction with the internationals on the same ticket. This can can save big money especially on fees such as baggage. Qantas and Australia is a classic example. Say you want to do London - Sydney - Cairns - Melbourne - London, you could book all that on the same ticket. Essentially when you start booking addition separate tickets with multiple airlines, that’s when things really start to add up. It can be tricky planning all this, so for complex flight itineraries it’s worth using an agent, mainly for their knowledge on airline alliances and codeshare arrangements.
    Alex are your consultations advice only, or are you booking flights, hotels and activities as well?

      Hey Arron, that’s a great tip! Thanks for sharing.
      I’m not offering full booking services, just consultations to help people plan their trips and routes.

    If you choose your destination based on the low cost of the flight, doesn't that mean that you are likely to fly just about everywhere during the worst possible season to visit? Japan during rainy season, Alaska in the middle of winter, etc.

    I'm from Argentina and I really wouldn't recommend anyone to come here, things got much worse and everything is much more expensive and dangerous than ever, even with strong currency believe me you'll expend less money traveling to Spain, also the distances are huge and the plane tickets inside the country are really expensive we don't have a low cost airtravel system and a bus from Buenos Aires to Patagonia or the misiones waterfall takes 26 hours

    *sigh* Are we really telling people to take advantage of poor economies to travel cheap?! I understand that traveling as a privileged person always kind of implies benefiting from currency exchange, but damn, do we have to be like "travel to Argentina right now, good deal, their economy is f'ed!". 😥

    • @AlexanderAyling
      @AlexanderAyling  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      Hey there Katy,
      Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
      I think you’ve misconstrued my words. The foundation of economics is that currencies fluctuate due to different factors, following those changes and using them to offset costs is sound personal finance.
      I never advocate “taking advantage” of people or places. In fact, I truly believe that by visiting places that are going through tougher times, you’re actually HELPING the locals. By getting out into the community and spending your money, you help the local economy grow and improve.
      Researching where your money goes farthest is just basic math.
      Regards

      @@AlexanderAyling I understand what you meant Alex… but indirectly, when foreigners buy in or travel to countries based on the advantageous currency rate, there’s still, I believe, an ethical component involved, and it would be wise to not just advise people on their personal finance strategies as if they were completely disconnected from socio-political factors as well.
      I’m sure you’re aware tourism doesn’t ALWAYS benefit the locals, and if the currency exchange is reaaaally good, it almost certainly benefits “those locals who are more equal than others”, as Orwell would put it… I don’t wanna get overly preachy or academic about the intersection of class and tourism, it was sound financial advice, but I’m a sociologist, so maybe a little preachy by default… lol just because something is cheaper doesn’t mean it’s a better option overall. Like no one in their right mind would be like “Oh travel in Russia is cheap right now, leggo!”… at least I hope not. 😅 Dollar stores are cheaper than grocery stores, but I would still advise not going there for a cheap grocery bill… ethics I guess just really matter to me and I apologize if I just reacted like you were telling people to take advantage of the poor!
      I know you don’t do that “misery tourism”, but there ARE still youtubers doing videos in poor countries like “Living in this town for 10$ a day!”, AMAZED at how far they can stretch their money, oblivious to the fact that the average worker there makes that in a week… All I meant to say was whilst encouraging people to be mindful of their copper, maybe we should also tell them to be mindful of economical inequalities in those “cheap countries”. ✌️
