Good easy to understand video. I am getting a 450 S and boning up on common issues. This is one of them. Have to decide if a disc convo is a better route or not. Interestingly all the different channels I have landed on have been from Canada.
They are a great machine for sure. I went with new shoes on the front instead if the conversion because there really wasn't too much wrong with it. I have another TRX450 that I did the rear disc conversion on though...
Hey i would suggest getting a drum to disc brake conversion kit. It's a really simple install other than hitting the wheel studs out and they work great over the stock brakes. They're cheaper than rebuilding stocks too, I got mine for $250 for my fourtrax 300
That is certainly an option. They are usually less problematic than the drums. I did a drum to disc conversion on the rear of my other TRX450, and it worked great.
my master cylinder handle is like a rock won't move. Front brakes are locked. 2002 Honda Foreman 450 trx fm 703 original miles. 240 engine hours. I bled the brakes and removed the hubs. One brake pad fell off(the friction pad. ) Also the vent tube down to the left front wheel is broken into. When I set the parking brake the front tires lock up....strange.
Sounds like your wheel cylinders may be seized. I had that happen on a 1997 Foreman I had years ago. If you open the bleeders, will the lever move then?
Show us your lift unloaded and tell us how it works. I've been wanting something like it. Keep working hard Your audio and lighting could use a little work. It fades depending on how much you move around. I'm slowly watching all your videos.
Thanks for the comment, and for watching! I actually have a video on my lift. I just don't think I've uploaded it yet. I have also been trying to figure out a wireless mic for the camera, but haven't found one in my budget that works with my camera yet.
I just found this channel through a search for Honda foreman 450 repairs. This is the only video I can find about a 450 in your playlist. I recently acquired a 98 foreman ES and it’s in need of some repairs. I’d like to learn a lot about it and fix it myself. I liked your video, do you have anymore videos on the 450 planned? I really like that lift table too, by the way. 👍
Thanks for the great comment! You have a very good machine there. I have the 2001 450S in the video and a 1999 450ES. I did very extensive work on both of them including a new rear driveshaft and a rear disc brake conversion on the ES. But all that was before I started doing repairs on TH-cam. I have no videos on that. I have a video coming this spring on rear wheel bearings on the 2001 S though. Probably a couple months away from uploading. Spring is here and the quads will get used more. I'm sure there will be things to fix, and I will make vids on them.
@@randomwrenching my main issue at the moment is the electric shift. I have put a new shift motor, a new angle sensor and a new shift up/down buttons on handle bars. It sporadically stops shifting and starts back for no reason. I have even put a new fuse box in it. I have another speed sensor I am gonna change, after that I’m stumped other than tearing plastics off and tracing every wire in harness. I’m hoping to avoid that.
@@kentuckycornbread8502 It sounds like you have already done everything that I would start with. You may just have an intermittent bad connection somewhere. Time to start inspecting all connection points on everything related to the shifting system. I haven't had that problem myself, all the shifting components on my 99 ES are original...
@@randomwrenching I feel ya. I used your video because I'm changing the brakes on a 1999 trx450es that hasn't been ridden years. I had to change all 4 cylinders and all hardware. Everything was so rusted. Drums were ok.

@@randomwrenching Yes it does.
@@edwardjames1369 I would suspect the wheel cylinders are seized in that case.
So I don’t have to take the axle nut off just to remove the drum cover? Just to get to the inside of it ?
This guy sounds so similar to Mike Rowe. I like it! ( :
thank you for making this video. very informative.
Thanks for watching!
Hi brother i see you on ken's small engine i show some love

I have a 450 fourtrx, put new pads, cylinders, brake cables. I have bleed the lines and still have no brakes. Any ideas what the problem could be 😊
Possibly the master cylinder is building enough pressure to bleed the brakes, but not enough to stop the bike?
I like to hear you explain what you are doing.
I'm very glad to hear someone pays attention to my nonsense ramblings. Thanks for being a loyal viewer! 😎👍
Good Info... Thanks for the video...

Does all brakes work on a honda ?I'm thinking about taking front brakes off 97 250 recon and putting them on honda 300 95
I cant say for sure. You can look up part numbers and see if they are the same for the 250 and the 300
450 dies randomly. I think it's the kill switch. Is there a way to bypass it?
On mine, I had the same issue. Turned out to be the ignition switch. $20 on amazon
What are some good online sources for the brake parts and disc brake kit for this atv?
Here in Canada I use Fortnine and Royal Distributing.
@@randomwrenching - shipping is too high to the US.
Rocky mountain ATV is a US choice maybe. Not sure in your area
www.superatv.com/ lots of vids online showing the conversion. Seems pretty easy.
@@njkay0033 SuperATV is where I got the rear disc brake conversion kit that I put on my other TRX450.
Made it seem simple, gotta get shop rags or an ol'e tee shirt !
Your springs are backwards. The actual spring should be opposite if the adjuster.
Good catch! Truth is I still have the 2 Foreman quads, but neither has been used in 2-3 years
