Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Totally agree. That's what I came here searching for. I've heard Tarja sing it before and I was stunned. I'm not a metalhead nor a Nightwish fan (more into prog), but when I heard Floor Jansen sing it, I cried. It was absolutely magnificent in this concert, nailed it. Tarja's operatic voice is fantastic, but I can't take too much of it. Floor can sing Tarjas songs perfectly, and also mixes in her own style to them, improving it. First "Ghost Love Score" Wacken 2013, then Floor Jansen doing Phantom of the opera with Henk Poort (real Phantom) in Beste Zangers. Floor has also been featured in a few Ayreon projects, who has been an inspiration to Nightwish. There is a lot of fun live Ayreon stuff to react to, but first she should listen to (not react) to Ayreon - Prologue (The Final Experiment) 1995 to get a feel for what the Ayreon projects are all about. It's just talk, instrumental, than talk again, and doesn't contain any "spoilers". @@gottagowork its all about your own taste and how you start your journey. Im glad of both Tarja and Floor. Floor saved Nightwish with her voice and presence and Tarja gave the band a nice start. Both are important. :) The other band members are the cornerstone, and then Troy comes in as an nice spice!
They are from Finland. Since the eind of 2012 they have a new lead singer, Mrs. Floor Jansen from the Netherlands. There's also a new drummer Since this performance you see here (Kai Hatho) and a multi-instumentalist (Troy Donockley).
it still amazes me that Tarja was so sick during this show that she was having to take breaks in between the songs to vomit and hydrate. Yet you would never know by that performance.

Nightwish is from Finland. The band has 9 studio albums, 5 with Tarja - first vocalist (the woman you just listenned), 2 with Anette (second vocalist) and 2 with Floor (current vocalist). The three vocalists have different styles and are wonderful in their own way. I like all three, but my favorite is Tarja. This is not about quality, but about personal taste. I also prefer the songs that were written in Tarja's time. I like the mix of gothic metal, symphonic metal and power metal present in the first 5 albums.There are many excellent performances with Tarja, both on the two official dvds ("End of an Era" and "From wishes to eternity"), and on other recordings that can be found here on TH-cam. As a next reaction, I suggest "Dead boy's poem", performance recorded in "From wishes to eternity". Thank you!
I'm a Nightwish fan since my teen years and i totally agree with you. Even Tarja, Anette and Floor is a great singer but they each have their own style. Tarja is really more operatic and gothic while Anette's voice is way more cleaner while Floor's voice is.....i dont know what the right word about it. Maybe she's voice is so deep but classic at the same time. In other word's Tarja is a siren, Anette is a fairy and Floor is a valkyrie/amazon.
@@rolandszlotta2121 Tarja is the better opera singer, Floor has the better chest voice. With Floor there are also rock and growl, which Tarja never mastered. Anette is the reason I stopped listening to Nightwish.
As others have mentioned, the band has had three singers, and this song was sung by Tarja Turunen, their first singer. Their current singer Floor Jansen (a Dutch singer) is hopefully their final singer as well - she just fits the band so very well. I like Tarja, but my personal favorite is Floor. Since this performance, they've also added one more band member, Troy Donockley, who's an English multi-instrumentalist, playing many woodwinds, guitars, and often the uillean pipes. he sometimes also sings. Another lineup change since this performance is that the drummer Jukka Nevalainen had to step down as the drummer because of health issues (though he's still working behind the scenes). He was replaced by Kai Hahto. The mastermind behind the band, who composes the music and writes the songs is Tuomas Holopainen, who is behind the keyboard. He's a bit of a musical genius. The Guitarist is Emppu Vuorinen, and the viking-looking bass player who sings here is Marco Hietala. The thing to know about the band is that they are REALLY GOOD live performers, so for most songs, you want to react to live versions. There are great official live videos of many of their performances, from many concerts. 😊
This, original vocalist and extensively classically-trained co-founder is Tarja Turunen..she and the rest of the band are Finnish....she left the band in 2005, after a rather ugly breakup and went onto a great solo career...this is but a small sample of her incredible talent
She is out of this world. Obviously she was amazing in Nightwish but now I’m so happy she in her own band. Her voice is now more better than ever. As a Finnish person I believe Tarja is more better than Nightwish. Nightwish lost their magic.

Crazy how a lot of people are just finding out about Nightwish. The band is about 20 years old(internationally) now and has been through at least 3 singers. Not that I am trying to act like some music snob, because I'm not. I just remember my friends listening to this decades ago. It wasn't that big back then, but now the band is a lot more popular, even as their old songs get rediscovered by a new generation.

Tarja was kicked out of band in 2005 and she was replaced by Swedish Anette Olzon in 2007. Anette also left the band in 2012 and was replaced by the current lead vocalist Floor Jansen from Netherlands. There are also few other band member changes and additions during years. You should also know that the keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen is the composer of the most of the songs/scores and the mastermind of the band. We all should appreciate his input here. For your following reactions, please stick with live shows if possible, they are usually much more dramatic than their studio recordings. Great reaction. Nightwish is so good live. Their songs a perfectly composed, arranged and performed. Phantom of the Opera is by Andrew Lloyd Weber and this is the best cover I have heard. A local band I knew did this song as part of their shows and did a great job but nothing comparable to this. Perhaps best cover all time. Tarja has a number of great songs. Totally agree. That's what I came here searching for. I've heard Tarja sing it before and I was stunned.
I'm not a metalhead nor a Nightwish fan (more into prog), but when I heard Floor Jansen sing it, I cried. It was absolutely magnificent in this concert, nailed it.
Tarja's operatic voice is fantastic, but I can't take too much of it. Floor can sing Tarjas songs perfectly, and also mixes in her own style to them, improving it.
First "Ghost Love Score" Wacken 2013, then Floor Jansen doing Phantom of the opera with Henk Poort (real Phantom) in Beste Zangers.
Floor has also been featured in a few Ayreon projects, who has been an inspiration to Nightwish. There is a lot of fun live Ayreon stuff to react to, but first she
should listen to (not react) to Ayreon - Prologue (The Final Experiment) 1995 to get a feel for what the Ayreon projects are all about. It's just talk, instrumental,
than talk again, and doesn't contain any "spoilers". Because Ayreon is one hell of a lengthy progressive rock opera spanning several albums.

Nightwish is from Finland. The band has 9 studio albums, 5 with Tarja - first vocalist (the woman you just listenned), 2 with Anette (second vocalist) and 2 with Floor (current vocalist). The three vocalists have different styles and are wonderful in their own way. I like all three, but my favorite is Tarja. This is not about quality, but about personal taste. I also prefer the songs that were written in Tarja's time. I like the mix of gothic metal, symphonic metal and power metal present in the first 5 albums.There are many excellent performances with Tarja, both on the two official dvds ("End of an Era" and "From wishes to eternity"), and on other recordings that can be found here on TH-cam. As a next reaction, I suggest "Dead boy's poem", performance recorded in "From wishes to eternity". Thank you!
I'm a Nightwish fan since my teen years and i totally agree with you. Even Tarja, Anette and Floor is a great singer but they each have their own style. Tarja is really more operatic and gothic while Anette's voice is way more cleaner while Floor's voice is.....i dont know what the right word about it. Maybe she's voice is so deep but classic at the same time. In other word's Tarja is a siren, Anette is a fairy and Floor is a valkyrie/amazon.
@@rolandszlotta2121 Tarja is the better opera singer, Floor has the better chest voice. With Floor there are also rock and growl, which Tarja never mastered. Anette is the reason I stopped listening to Nightwish.

As others have mentioned, the band has had three singers, and this song was sung by Tarja Turunen, their first singer. Their current singer Floor Jansen (a Dutch singer) is hopefully their final singer as well - she just fits the band so very well. I like Tarja, but my personal favorite is Floor.
Since this performance, they've also added one more band member, Troy Donockley, who's an English multi-instrumentalist, playing many woodwinds, guitars, and often the uillean pipes. he sometimes also sings.
Another lineup change since this performance is that the drummer Jukka Nevalainen had to step down as the drummer because of health issues (though he's still working behind the scenes). He was replaced by Kai Hahto.
The mastermind behind the band, who composes the music and writes the songs is Tuomas Holopainen, who is behind the keyboard. He's a bit of a musical genius.
The Guitarist is Emppu Vuorinen, and the viking-looking bass player who sings here is Marco Hietala.
The thing to know about the band is that they are REALLY GOOD live performers, so for most songs, you want to react to live versions. There are great official live videos of many of their performances, from many concerts. 😊

This, original vocalist and extensively classically-trained co-founder is Tarja Turunen..she and the rest of the band are Finnish....she left the band in 2005, after a rather ugly breakup and went onto a great solo career...this is but a small sample of her incredible talent
She is out of this world. Obviously she was amazing in Nightwish but now I’m so happy she in her own band. Her voice is now more better than ever. As a Finnish person I believe Tarja is more better than Nightwish. Nightwish lost their magic.

Crazy how a lot of people are just finding out about Nightwish. The band is about 20 years old(internationally) now and has been through at least 3 singers. Not that I am trying to act like some music snob, because I'm not. I just remember my friends listening to this decades ago. It wasn't that big back then, but now the band is a lot more popular, even as their old songs get rediscovered by a new generation.

Tarja was kicked out of band in 2005 and she was replaced by Swedish Anette Olzon in 2007. Anette also left the band in 2012 and was replaced by the current lead vocalist Floor Jansen from Netherlands. There are also few other band member changes and additions during years. You should also know that the keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen is the composer of the most of the songs/scores and the mastermind of the band. We all should appreciate his input here. For your following reactions, please stick with live shows if possible, they are usually much more dramatic than their studio recordings. And with few songs, like "The Poet and the Pendulum" and "The Greatest Show on Earth", you better check the story of the song in advance, giving you much deeper experience.

Great reaction. Nightwish is so good live. Their songs a perfectly composed, arranged and performed. Phantom of the Opera is by Andrew Lloyd Weber and this is the best cover I have heard. A local band I knew did this song as part of their shows and did a great job but nothing comparable to this. Perhaps best cover all time.

Floor has the most versatility. She can sing opera and rock and gets a bit of distortion to her voice when the accents are necessary.
