My grandfather was a Rolls Royce engineer in the fifties, I would love to imagine that he maybe worked on this car, he worked in the engine plant. He used to geek out to me as a kid about engineering all day long, taught me to enjoy using tools and problem solving, which left me with a passion for cars and you know what Jonathan? He would have totally loved what you have done to this beautiful motor car. Best wishes from the UK.
jonny, wouldn't it be great to hear your grandfather's counterpoint to Jonathan's narration on the RR engineering including the double C channel welded chassis and more? Your grandfather sounds like he was a great guy and you were lucky to have know him.
@@kenschmillen3748 I think that it may have something to do with post-war scarcity of materials. In UK raw materials such as sheet metal were allocated to manufactures on a cupon style system up to a 1954. so perhaps it had influenced the design process of this car.
Recently retired and now have time to watch these videos. As a former quality manager in a fortune 100 company, it is the attention to detail that is simply incredible. This car is stunning, simply the best of the best.
Thank you so much for another great video about my former car. I'm thrilled to see it get a new life and it will certainly live a very long time after going through your shop.Sorry about the mold. Mold likes the Texas heat and we grow that stuff everywhere. The car is awesome!
And for the record in my opinion there wasn't enough video on this car so I don't know why you kept apologizing for your ranting, with the kind of job you had I could've easily takin another 20 mins of video easy especially on this car so next time feel free to rant on there are those who would appreciate it if you did.. but thats my 2cents, thanks for the video you definitely did an awesome job with this car
Mike McCabe I totally agree with you. On all the cars and trucks they do especially the relics I like to hear all the details on what was done and how. Only thing I would change would if he could throw in more pics of the job in process. Other than that I look forward to all his videos. Sure with I could afford an ICON!
Yep I'd love to see the cars up on the lift, more details, what shock were used, and why. What program was used on the engine, stock GM or was it tuned? What type of conectors were used on the instrament pannels, and why...
Mike McCabe agreed friend the cool part is when I was a young kid one of my dad's friends used to take me to Carl's jr. Drive thru in his all the time it was also the same year color and right hand drive
Jonathan, you truly represent the American spirit with hard working, passion, innovation and quality. The British did it ok but you hit it out of the park. I love your enthusiasm and work. Thumbs way up!
As a talker myself, i just listened gaining every aspect of this build entranced all the way through. An ex aero engineer by trade, old car restorer and racer by heart, what more can I add thats needed - none, except very well done... again..
As a Rolls-Royce geek all my life, I'm completely in love with this thing! My favorite Derelict that you've built! Btw we enjoy the ranting. Well done.
Sorry for my late arrival but here goes. Back in the day I used to caddy at the local Golf Club in Ellesborough UK. This club was nestled in the Chiltern Hills, a most perfect location. Me and a school friend used to stand by the club house most Sundays trying to attract some business. Many times we went home empty handed but one day this gent came over and asked if we might be free the following week so we agreed to meet him at the club. Eventually he arrived driving a Silver Cloud in the exact same colours - we couldn't believe it. He took us to another club some 15 miles away and we caddied for him and one of his friends. It was all above board and we had a great time. With that in mind it was great to come across this video and to see what you have achieved with the old Cloud. Clearly I have fond memories of these cars and you have to be congratulated on the level of workmanship put into the build - I love it. I know it's rude to ask and I doubt you want to tell but what's the finished cost of the vehicle.
Ah, the one I've been waiting for...and its perfection. Just for the record, 20 min videos would ideally be the minimum, not a maximum - we love hearing every little detail and touch. Thanks for taking time to make these and detail everything.
You understand that the art is in the details. I was thrilled to hear you talk about them and how you make it all work. In my opinion, one can never go too deep into something. I said something to a friend once and his response was: "you have too much time on your hands". I told him I didn't believe there ever is such a thing. Every second is prelude to the next one.
After all the bells and whistles and the beautiful job you did it always comes down to the seats ,and you nailed it perfectly, after all you have to be totally comfortable when driving.I enjoyed watching the whole presentation, thank you.
The stance and the sounds are the personality of this derelict. For those of us enamored with this kind of restoration, there's never enough detail and the effort to share is appreciated.
As a retired vintage RR tech, the Silver Cloud series were my favorite. I feel I am qualified to give my unconditional approval on this incredible makeover. CHEERS!!
Like many other comments indicate, the details and geek outs are my favorite part of your videos. We recognize that a crazy amount of work went into these vehicles. Geek out all you like. I will watch the whole video, every time. No need to apologize at all.
I only have three words to say about this car - I WANT ONE!!! This, with stock wheels and whitewall tyres (if possible) would surprise ANYONE you take for a ride in it, it's fantastic. THANKYOU!!
Thank you for walking the Jonathan, one man of the land, being responsible through self thinking, your learnings plus teachings brings a "Wow," to the women and men of the lands.Keep building, enjoy.!!!
I'm a humble designer for a large aero company, I REALLY appreciate that Icon have a great sense of what elements to change, and what aspects and aesthetics are best left as intended. Thanks for the great videos.
Obviously an impressive car and he’s going to get a lot of well-deserved compliments, but if you get a second, rewatch the video for the editing. His older videos felt like you were at a car show, but this video specifically, has the feeling of riding around with your friend as he tells you about the car he’s been working on. The constant back-and-forth between detailed stills and walk arounds, then seeing the car in motion, sounds miserable... But in execution, it’s fantastic.
Jonathan, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride with you through the canyons, and geeking out on the details of the build. What a fabulous, gorgeous car! As to drowning in the details, no apologies please. I'm a good swimmer.
4 years late watching this video, but wow what an absolute stunner this Rolls was! And like the other thousands of comments, we LOVE hearing you geek out John! That's why we're here and not on Jay's channel! :)
Absolutely agree with you. The best of the best. I'm the proud second owner of a 1964 Cloud III and have been for 39 years. I wouldn't swap it for any of the current range.
Since the 1950’s this has been my favourite motor car. The two tone paintwork emphasises it’s graceful land majestic lines Being English it’s wonderful to see this Old Lady Dowager brought up to date. She can now lift up her skirts and really shift. Unsurpassed by later designs, a Stately English Mansion on wheels. A true Rolls Royce. Thank you for your video. Wonderful!.
Jon - never apologize for going on - I could watch these all day! I love and appreciate that you get into all the details so we mortals can understand how much thought and work went into the build.
And yet, another wonderful ride in a amazing car. Thanks and like the other comments, I could listen to the geeking out over and over. Bring it on....thank you for constantly raising the bar, and allowing us to geek out with you.
“Hey, a coyote!” Love it! Just discovered your channel and have been devouring the content. Your love of sleepers is contagious. Keep up the geekyness. A lot of us truly appreciate your comments. Thanks!

As a Briton, I´d like to take this opportunity to apologise to the world in general for the bafflingly unfathomable variations in the quality of our engineering. I once had a Range Rover clutch master cylinder seal blow on a 2 week old unit. I´d also like to mention how much more satisfying I found this video than I did Jay´s video covering this very car. In response to your chat show comment. You missed nothing. Jay Leno was pathetic. This can be said of all the chat show/late night show hosts in the current lineup for the last 20 plus years in the U S of A. It is a wasteland of bumbling hacks. The great one, Johnny Carson, when he retired, then the whole genre went right into the toilet. Yet we still have many chat shows on today only to appease the zombies from getting restless. This is truly an awesome build. My wedding limo was a meticulously restored 1959 RR Silver Cloud white on white. Loved the car. The time and attention you put into this is impressive. If I had the $$, I'd do the same 1959 with a Tesla drive train. Another home run ICON.

I sugested that someone could CNC new aluminum knobs and buttos to do exactly the same you do; new tec with old look. They told me that I was crazy and fucking dreaming. I spent months going around talking with engineers, CNC operators, CAD freaks, and I always got the same answer; 'you are dreaming too much, that will be too expensive, no one gives a fuck about the look of a button, bla bla"... That was 12 years ago. I wish I sas working with you guys at that time! Keep the PERFECT work coming!
Thanks for the video. Jay Leno fondly remembers his days as a poor mechanic working on this sort of car so you could tell he'd rather the Rolls remain original. That is okay, to each his own. I like originals but I also like what you are doing creating cars that drive as well as they look. I appreciate your use of the best materials available and your attention to detail and design. People are getting their money's worth buying one of your cars.

That was 12 years ago. I wish I sas working with you guys at that time! Keep the PERFECT work coming!
I’m so glad I found your rendition of this! Jay’s show has nothing on what you brought us here 👏🏽🖖🏽🏁 Good on you brotha!
I've loved Rolls-Royces my whole life. You've created a masterpiece. I only wish I could have you build one for me. This Cloud looks like a total blast!
Mid restoring my RR Silver Cloud 57. Incredible work you've done, great inspiration.
You Sir are my Hero. I can only imagine how awesome it would be to work at your shop.
