      I would freeze and If you’re mixing for clients, when the mixes are done I would commit

    Good one. Any other tips on conserving DSP is welcome!

      You could always mix through busses and freeze or commit to the busses. I will make a video on this. It’s also called printing stems

    I have a satellite quad and suffer from the same issue. I actually created an excel sheet with dsp load per plugin as I dont have the capital to buy manley's who will eat up 70% of dsp. Mono/Stereo usage is also key indeed.

      Yeah, man! the struggle is real and some of those newer plugins are DSP hogs.

    Using mono tracks from mono sources would save a bit of DSP as it only processes one channel. Another trick is to use a lower sample rate (44.1khz) and that also saves resources. Sorry for my English, Greetings from Argentina.

    Can I use native plugins and UAD2 in protools at the same time
    I don’t use low latency monitoring because I have some guitar processors that won’t work with LLM
    On
    So at least for tracking I leave it off
    I also throw a outboard EL8 on busses but it’s the same deal, you have to commit only having one physical unit
    Although I am buying EL8 UAD2 plug now that I got the x6 (2days old) then I’ll use my twin x as a remote desk top and for more dsp
    I tried Luna (not bug free yet) and protools using console exclusively but as you said dsp goes quick and I have so many AAX, VST an AU plugs it’s a shame not to use them
    I use blue cat audio “patchwork” as a wrapper and can use any plug I have in PTs
    Just never tried both the uad and native plugs simultaneously in protools
    Although my understanding is they still use the dsp from Apollo even when not in console just no unison processing, is that even correct?
    I get lots of mixed info

      It depends on what you wanna monitor through. If you’re going to use UAD then you’re not gonna be able to use ProTools plug-ins. But if you’re going to monitor through ProTools then you could add plug-ins, but you’re gonna be dealing with buffer size and latency, especially With low latency mode off.
      I trackthrough my universal audio plug-ins that I want to use and then I add my other plug-ins during mixing or once the track is recorded. I will also freeze or commit tracks.

      I have not. Not a bad idea. I think logic has a commit function too

    What would the approach be using cakewalk?

    • @HomeStudioRescue
      @HomeStudioRescue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Ken,
      Apparently there is a Freeze function in Cakewalk. I don't use Cakewalk, but I did a google search with "can you freeze plugins in cakewalk" and a lot of good info popped up!
      This is what google said "Cakewalk - SONAR X2 Documentation - Freeze tracks and synths. The Freeze feature allows you to temporarily bounce your track, including soft synths and effects, to reduce the amount of CPU power needed. The Freeze feature also works for synths patched in the Synth Rack."
      That's pretty much what I am doing in Pro Tools. You can Freeze plugins in Pro Tools and Unfreeze, which is handy. when I am done mixing a set of instruments and I want to free up UAD DSP, I will either freeze the tracks I'm done with or commit, which cannot be undone.
      It seems like freeze is your best option.
      Thanks for watching!

      @@HomeStudioRescue thank you so much. I am familiar with freezing tracks. And there is a “commit” option in cakewalk as well. I’ll give that a whirl

    How many plugins can you use with a appollo duo.

    • @HomeStudioRescue
      @HomeStudioRescue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there,
      Honestly it depends plugin to plugin. Each UAD Plugins takes up a different percentage of DSP. I looked up your question and honestly this DSP Chart is best resource I've found.
      help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/215262223-UAD-2-DSP-Chart
      If it was up to me I would get at least a quad if you want to mix with UAD Plugins. You could always get a duo and then add a quad satellite, but it gets expensive. I like UAD stuff, but there are a lot of plugin companies out there who are in the same ballpark and don't require a separate device.
      Depending on the plugin and how many tracks you're mixing a duo probably would be lucky to get you Five plugins, that's just a guess. It really just depends on how DSP heavy the plugins have are. Even with a quad I am lucky to get 10 on average, but I am usually using reverbs, buss compressors like The Fatso, API 2500, Chandler Limited stuff, some EQs like the Pultecs.
      Hope this helps, Thanks for watching!

      @@HomeStudioRescue what other companies are in the ballpark? Waves doesn't sound the same to me and Acustica is a system that's confusing to me. Im honestly looking because I own a twin mk ii duo and was on my way to guitar center to buy the octo so I can have 10 cores and I saw your video. I don't know how many plugins I would be able to run in a typical session but I was gifted half of the UAD plugins but can't use them without dsp.. should I take that money to BUY some other company plugins (I can't do subscription based) or do I just buy the octo hoping to be able to use more plugins? UAD has such a choke hold on the game lol
