- The revelations keep coming, and the sheer scale of the awfulness is beginning to reveal itself. Let me tell you, there is no WAY on earth, even with hints and hunches, I'd have predicted where this show has gone.

Notice how Gross was looking directly at the viewers when asserting that humans want to see cruelty, almost as though he's breaking the fourth wall (as he literally stands on it). His point is proved directly on the spot when viewers celebrate his gruesome comeuppance, cheering as they watch him being devoured by the titan.
And then the Owl asking: "Is it really that interesting?"
What a poetic comment.
Every reaction on the that day episode will have some mf saying this exact thing and its always with the "he litterally stands on the fourth wall" pun
@@iniee3662that is my first time hearing that one and oh my god…
@@averageperson9708 im not criticizing the writing i think its amazing im just sharing my observations
I don’t know if that Zeke and Dina reveal has fully registered for him yet😂
Isn't that why he paused after Dina?
Jon says the reveals are ridiculous while completely missing the biggest reveal of this episode 😂 Ok nobody spoil it for him
wait isnt it already spoiled in past?
@@mattdp5554yes it is
Most people I know, myself included lmao, missed most of the plot twists on first viewing. I remember that once I rewatched the first two seasons before the second half of s3, so many things clicked. It’s a plot dense show, with a lot pf characters to keep up with, and tbh most of the time the pace and the storytelling gets hella confusing. It’s easy to miss many of the reveals.
Which one are you referring to even?
@@Dark__Thoughts maybe that "you're not wrong to assume that you saw some of the titans before". JD noticed one at least (apart from Dina)
Yeah, almost all titans in the end appeared in Season 1, including the one that swallowed Eren
Yup
JD you've absolutely seen all those titans before you're not imagining. Everything in this show is connected and I love it!
Tha what make a story feel more rich because all of the things are connected to a lot of the details that will aspire later, it makes it feel like the writer has thought of the story well
Guys, remember on someone’s first reaction to this show there’s such an inundation of information that it’s easy to miss a couple things (i.e. the Zeke stuff). It’ll all come together for Jon!
And thanks Jon for having such a genuine reaction to this show!
Most people see this in light of WWII Nazi Germany, which is true but not all. AOT not only borrows from those events but from many oppressor/oppressed relationships in history. It's a story about humanity.
It's really true. A lot of people don't know but the first mandatory Jewish ghettos were created in Europe as far back as 1555. Wearing markings and badges that showed you were Jewish was required as well, not just by Nazi Germany- it was just reintroduced right before WW2. The blood libel goes way way back before then as well. I tend to think of the events of the show as contemporaneous with "our" WW1 as a matter of fact, based on the technology, the rampant nationalism, and the influence of Prussia on Japan in the Meiji Restoration at the height of Prussian power.
anime and manga in general borrow the metaphor of previous events in our history, stories, mythology, etc to give a story instant orientation and grounding to build from. It shortcuts a lot of world building when you already have a basis to start from, and the story narrative will insert their changes it wants rather than have to start building the world from scratch. There are definite parallels but I think you shouldn't read too much beyond it. By seeing the armbands you instantly know the eldians are subjugated and discriminated against without any further dialogue because we know it happened in our history.
You do realise that eldians were evil.
This episode hit so hard - completely changes everything. 🙏
Probably my favorite episode in the show, glad it left you as breathless and blown away as it's meant to. :) It's a wild ride from here on out!
JD: WHOS the owl?
Me watching: *eyes narrow*
did you miss that Grisha's first son is named Zeke? I hope not lol
Did he not understand that Zeke is Eren half brother. Did he forgot that beast titan name is Zeke?
@@kikoano111 some people dont catch everything the first time bruh. I didnt even know it was the beast until he was holding the monkey doll then it all clicked. You guys need to chill lol
Sometimes Zeke's name is also spelled Sieg. That can be the reason why he missed it.
Dw he gets it after this video
@@shuriken3883 I've not seen that in subtitles but it's kinda how it is pronounced, which was confusing for me as a German (Sieg = victory / win).
I watch a lot of AOT reactions because the reveals are such an amazing aspect of the show and reliving them with reactors is great. Your reactions are easily some of, if not THE, best. I appreciate that you see this show not only as an epic watch but a show with something to say. I love how you watch it with a critical eye. Please keep them coming, this show is, as you’ve said, pretty difficult to beat!
All of what you said at the end is exactly where I was in my mind when I finished this episode, it's the greatest show ever, how does this show keep topping itself everytime. I want everyone to experience this show but I tell myself not to oversell it when I mention it but then I re-watch an episode like this and I'm like, there's no way can I oversell it, it's not possible, the show is fucking increadible. Glad to see you finally get here along your journey of AOT, of course you are way ahead IRL but now the real show starts.
Sir Jon, I’d suggest rewatching the episode, (1) to take all the info in and (2) to pay attention to names and faces
This show is amazing, I loved this whole episode on my first watch. Seeing people who you recognize as titans from the very first season of the show is sick as fuck and it's awesome how they were able to incorporate this whole backstory through the powers of the titans. Rather than a Bleach-esque random and abrupt jump back in time (Which was one of my favorite parts of Bleach) you rather see everything happen in the past the way the characters see them. It makes the story telling seamless and uninterrupted in a way that makes binge watching extremely intense because many secrets and questions are revealed so quickly one episode after another.... And then! Season 4's start slaps you in the face with surprise.
Honestly dude, this episode should be re watched once or twice before moving on. So much info got dropped on us at this point in the story.
This is still my favorite episode in the entire show, close to the season 4 episode 20.
Season 4 episode 20 is forever the GOATed episode the fact Isayama managed to make that episode more insane than what we got in 4x19 blew my mind away. Greatest piece of writing I've ever seen
13:50 My guy, if you can properly see, what they were trying to show is that DINA HERSELF is the titan that killed Eren's mother (not a spoiler, but genuinely a thing of this episode)... In fact, all of the titans that were transformed in this episode, you could see in the first (and second, I believe?), season. The foreshadowing goes hard!
i think that‘s why he paused and reacted the way he did bro
"I feel like I've seen this one before."
Fun fact, all of these titans appear in S1 during the Trost arc (and Dina obviously in ep1)! Even that Santa Claus titan was the one who was about to eat Armin before Eren saved him and got chomped instead.
A story like this in today's creative climate dominated by commercial success or critical failure was and is probably one of the riskiest things manga or anime have done in decades. The anime industry just doesn't takes these kinds of risks anymore spanning what you could essentially call 5 seasons of a show if you divided it up into 13 episode season format and 10 years. Anime is a marketing mechanic to sell the original material ie manga or novel and licensing opportunities for merchandise or games, related music and media products. To have a narrative this water tight of plot holes, planned from the very start is monumentally ambitious for an industry that moves at light speed compared to other animation industries. This thing could've risked losing serialization in manga format somewhere in the middle, it could've financially failed or not been picked up for a season 2 at all because some committee thought it wouldn't be profitable. The risk creative and financial in even attempting to tell this story to completion was massive. There were no characters you could milk for that moe moe product line, no mass market appeal (at the time of season and those first bunch of chapters) they didn't stretch anything out to push product for the specific purpose of extracting every dollar they could out of the fanbase. They told a story and hoped it would be so damn good, fans would just buy in. People shouldn't just be thanking Isayama or WIT or MAPPA or the voice actors or the individual episode directors. This was a true team effort from the guy making less than minimum wage with pencil on paper to the executive committees spanning all 4 seasons and 10 years of production.
SOLO LEVELING Just started and it is a big title, it was actually a manhua not a manga (made by Koreans not Japanese), the first anime adaptation episode was released like 3 days ago and is getting a lot of praise
Oh so now you know 30% of what attack on titan is, loved ur reaction. I don't usually comment or whatch reactions but i really wanna see you finishing aot.
Happy New Year 🥳🥳🥳
I'm glad to start the year reacting to this masterpiece 🎉🎉🎉
You should've added the next episode to this reaction video
Because the two are mind blowing
8:30 grisha has that main character rizz. the hero charm. He's a protagonist without a show
THIS SHOW DOESNT STOP. TRUST ME.
12:00 this titans are the ones who killed eren squad back in first seasson , ep 5 or 6 i remember.
I love that people react to this 13:38
I remember the time when you were itching to know the answers. Here you go... Glad you enjoyed it...
The way I see this. It seems like it fully reflects the Israel Palestine conflict. One side seems to be influenced by the whole world, while the side that actually is oppressed finally understands how they’ve never had a place in this world based off of the situations they’ve been placed in
brilliant writing
Great reaction 💪💪💪
Keep like this an get ready to final this season 👑👑👑
I'm so excited 😉😉😉
12:00 their are the titans who ate eren and company in the firsts episodies
this is why people say that watching AOT as your first anime is kinda spoiling all of anime, is just peak.
The next episode is my favorite!!! i cant wait for it
This is one of my favorite periods of the entire show. Season 3 is damn good
If you see how israel acting right now, and you've seen this until the end, it can't be more ironic. Was isayama trying to tell something?
Very interesting that you made the correlation with Eldians and Jewish people, because the whole time I was watching the show, I(as a Black person) thought it was all correlating to Black People.
Just you wait JD for the crazyness that is S4
“I don’t even have words”. Exactly 😂. All one can really say.
13:45 😆😆😆😆😆 this was all of us
If you didn’t notice already, grisha's first son name is zeke , it’s the beast titan
Delete this
You are spoiling it
@@leeking6939 no its not spoilers, they called him zeke before, but if i recall its only once or twice
@@Skatingnoob and in this episode , child zeke is literally holding a beast titan doll so yeah , it’s not a spoiler
@ChillBeats96 yeah when I watched I connected the dots because of the doll
@@Skatingnoob I mean the beast titan part is a spoiler
The story relling is wild
A truly amazing episode in a sea of an amazing episodes
It's Ok Jon you won't get all first watch through. I've watched AOT about 4 times now every watch through was different because of the depth and the complexity of that world.
It's all the season 1 titans, including Santa titan who ate Eren.
半端じゃないよな〜そしてまだまだ始まりに過ぎない
Ahh just wait for another season :D
Feeding a child to dogs are the most evil thing in AOT
sad that you missed the zeke thing and how you nearly realised that we already fought these titans. not just that last one you seem to "remember from somewhere", but the ones before too. you surely remember santa claus titan, the one who ate eren, dont u?
also i love how you barely say any words here (or the recent episodes) but still seem to have a bigger and more real reaction than most channels.
You MUST watch Vinland Saga. You want another absolute BANGER of an Anime??? There you go.
Next episode is bonkers
The genre just changed lol
The problem of watching AoT is me wondering if I will ever be able to watch another show and be as amazed as I was the first time I watched all this crap. I probably will, but damn me if this show wasn’t something of beauty. A modern classic, probably something people will talk about centuries in the future.
Its really hard to tell if theres a better show, i think this is THE show in anime world that compete with all kinds of shows for being one of the best overall. Just too good builded, directed and animated. Just too good.
In terms of anime, maybe Code Geass has a lot of point for its plot twists, but idk, maybe its just me being nostalgic.
This was a nice coincidence
YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING BRO × ❤️🤍💙🦋🕊️
enjoy the last episodes from the second best season of aot
cant wait until you get to s4 :D
It's not as much as Jews and Germans back in WW2, but 2 groups that are more or less a mix of both sides doing apartheid ping pong against each other. I guess it'll all come together once the show unfolds so strap yourself in, I guess
Sir next reaction 😅when?
Nah this is one of the best episodes in AOT holy shit
Jon if spurs beat united you gotta react to more than 1 episode at a time 😂😂
This episode had undertones of what is happening in Israel and Palestine. Thats just me
Has anyone ever told you that you look like macklemore?
I reckon more than 1000 people
😂@@JDGoesMovies
Bro WHAT lmfaooooo I’ve never heard Eldians compared to Jewish people 😭😭😭😭
1
The eldians are supposed to be german
the marleyans are also meant to be german, what's your point
Everybody is German deep down
No... lol
@@Skatingnoob lol yes. Its Eren Yeager not Eren Yeagerstein
