    Excellent. The music is straight from a corporate health and safety video :D

    I find it amazing that the Crewe to Wembley 0A06 ran with similar loco's over 20 years ago, wouldn't be uncommon today to find a 90 hauling a 92 or two on that run, 21 years later!

    Mid 90’s WCML was a great line then. Spent many weekends running up and down the steps at Tamworth…..

    Fantastic video. This was most likely the last era of proper loco hauled trains and British rail engineered locomotives and trains. Instead all we have now is just modern trams on railways and Canadian or American diesel locos for freight.

      I’m glad I’m just about old enough to have seen these types of operations in action

    Were the rails just knackered back then or was suspension not as sophisticated because there seems to be a fair bit of jumping around on some of these clips!

    • @ModelRailway
      @ModelRailway 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The asset was well and truly knackered! BR had sweated the asset before privatisation due to a lack of investment, not helped by several WCML upgrade scheme proposals being rejected, then early Railtrack years (and maintenance contractors) sweated the asset even more as every time they had to cancel trains to ‘buy’ a possession to carry out works, they had to pay! Hence West Coast Route Modernisation project (1999 to 2008) had a huge task to repair, upgrade and enhance the WCML condition, speed and capacity.

      @@ModelRailway Which the WCML Modernisation didn't go fully as planned (didn't reach 140mph capability due to the requirement for all trains to have in cab signalling) and even then the benefits didn't last long before capacity was eaten up. Now we have to build a dedicated line for intercity express trains to free up the line for slower passenger and freight traffic, in the form of HS2!

      @@MannyAntipov Agree … some parts of WCRM certainly didn’t go as planned/originally contracted, such as the in-cab signalling! However, back to the opening post, even 20yrs after WCRM, you don’t see many ‘wet-spots’ along the WCML since WCRM and even today, or see many trains jumping around on very poor areas of track geometry quality. So many aspects of WCRM and asset management since did do a good job. 👍

    Good times before the railways were taken over by those happy clappy kids and turned into "trainbow"

    6:25 why is there a 309 on the WCML

    • @MannyAntipov
      @MannyAntipov 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Considering it was coming from Ilford, it might've had some routine maintenance.

      The chap responsible for sticking the music on there would agree with you. I'm actually surprised they weren't his own compositions, so he could at least justify it that way

    4:21 What is the livery on 90129?

    • @myrve_
      @myrve_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      red

    • @soundseeker63
      @soundseeker63 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      An earlier version of DB red. One of the three European liveries applied to class 90s to celebrate the beginning of inter-continental freight services through the channel tunnel. Both classes 90 and 92 have since come to wear DB liveries legitimately.

      Late on the reply sorry lol. The Belgian livery is on a still shot at 1:27:20. There was an SNCF one also (not shown).
