this locomotive was made in usa
@Jackson_tsai Yes, built by General Electric in Erie, Pennsylvania, from 2008 onwards. They are excellent locos!
Class 56 makes a sneaky getaway under a massive smoke-screen, cough, cough! 🚂👍
@dieseldave3879 I still remember trying NOT to cough when I was filming that!
American rubbish
Very interesting. I didn't know they had Ford containers back in the day!
Great video, really summed up the day.
@andrewmurray5542 Glad you liked it and thanks for your comment.
Thank you for sharing.
Nice catch Jim 👍🏻
Only 4!
I think these wagons may be semi-permanently coupled in sets of 4? Maybe there was a problem with this set, and they were detached and left at Lichfield, to be repaired and collected later. That would be quite some operation to remove a set of 4 wagons from such a long train! Maybe the passenger trains were delayed 'due to a broken down freight train'
Is that an old 313 as a converter coach?
Yes I think it is.
Hello. I was born & bred in the South Wales valleys, the son of a miner, and coal trains were everywhere. They were mainly hauled by 37s, due to the tight curves. Even though most loaded trains moved down the valleys, adequate braking force was essential, so double - and even triple - heading was not uncommon. 47s and 56s became more common as time went on, and eventually 66s took charge of what was left of coal haulage during the late 1990s and into the 2000s. The final South Wales coal train ran early this year, I think, from Cwmbargoed. It was the end of an era.
An interesting comment, thanks. I have seen videos of 37s working hard in the valleys!
I never knew there was a loco named after Almon Strowger. When I was studying Telecommunications Engineering at Uni many moons back, his name was as a huge player in the development of the modern Telephone. He essentially patented the first proper automatic telephone exchange, derivatives of which were used in the UK until as late as 1995, and coincidentally in the same village as I’m waiting to access the railway right now, Crawford.
@southcalder That's an interesting story, but I don't think the name appears in my video? Am I missing something, or did you reply to the wrong video perhaps?
Its the name on 20131 dude
I really enjoyed this. It brought back memories of seeing the coal trains delivering coal to my local power station.
@andrewrice6596 Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for commenting.
Great video jim. The class 56 was dominant in the middle 80’s to early 90’s until class 59 & 60’s and 66 took over. 👍
@ashfaq1999 Glad you liked the video, thanks for commenting.
Good to see them in action Jim. I have mixed feelings about them as I love 08s and 09s and hate to see them being replaced but on the other hand it's good to see another loco and a different style
@BenGBRf I agree, the 08s and 09s have certainly stood the test of time! Maybe class 18s are the future?...
Lovely to hear the 56's working hard again.
It sure is!
Amazing thanks for posting happy memories
Glad you liked it, thanks for your comment.
take me back to the 90s I can't deal with this crazy society we live in today 90s was was way better
28:35 ❤👍🏻
I remember the days back in the 90s when we used to count them at the crossing ❤
Gotta love that screaming turbocharger
Glad you liked it, thanks for your comment
This scene would be unrecognisable now. For a start you can barely see the railway for all the over engineered OLE that’s been installed.
Yes, it's certainly a lot more cluttered than it was 30 years ago (and no faster!)
Brings back memories,I worked in the traction shop class 47 traction motors 1980
Als kid vond dit zo mooi stoer uit zien trein.
@robinenbernhard Ja. Een geweldig uitziende locomotief. Bedankt voor je reactie.
Why do I get the feeling, that one winter soon, we’re going to regret some of the decisions made in the past 20 years?
Trent Junction.....spent many hours there over the years. Sadly not quite as busy with freight now.
Magic!
It’s sad they don’t use the connector between units anymore due to mechanical issues
Does this hurt the train?
Mods are asleep, post coupling trains.
and these same trains are still used today.
bro children could see this, give the trains some privacy
filth 🤢
thanks

very nice video, great to see back to what the railways used to be like, subscribe from me, keep up the fab work
@Ontrax66 Thanks for your comment and subscription, glad you like my content.
Gives new meaning to "Pop Goes the Diesel".
How did yt recommended me this 😂
Me neither, but i'm loving this
What sort of videos do you normally watch on TH-cam? 😉
Spent an hour at Gand last year, the traction is (slightly) more modern, but still a great variety about.
@southcalder Thanks for your comment. It is good to know that there are still places with a variety of trains to be seen. I would like to go back there sometime, to do a current day version of this video.
Very nice, plenty different trains there!
Glad you like my last 2 videos, thanks for your comments.
Lovely seeing 58s 31 47 37 how the railway was and still should be
Glad you liked it, thanks for the comment.
@@JimH24 thanks for the memories
very nice. It was good to see the old class 58s
Always good to see a rabbit. They still are around I believe. Possibly more common in Eastern Europe. Ludmillas are great as well. I more into my French locos but do like the German stuff

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Love the video, and seeing the Dakota and the Spitfires and Hurricanes too. A real bonus. 😊👍
@chrisguy9211 Thanks for your comment, glad you liked my footage.
I love your video. I was there, it was way cool. Way way awesome
Glad you enjoyed it!
As a neutral Rugby fan. Delighted for Northampton who play by far the most entertaining rugby.
