Domingo is really a great teacher as I can see and he has a lot of patience and is kind to his students. And the soprano is very good and certainly has potential in my opinion. I like Domingo's deep understanding of the aria.

This is one of those arias that I desperately want to sing when at and after college/university. It is so beautiful, and this soprano sings it beautifully. Loved Domingo's advice and understanding of this particular aria, and he also has all the qualities I love in a teacher such as kindness and patience. I'll be seeing this clip a few more times and take note of what Domingo says so that when and if I do sing it I know how to effectively without doing too much or too little.

from 3:00 to 3:30, that thirty seconds Placido sings sounds better to me than any soprano i have ever heard sing that aria.

Le bel canto existe toujours de par le monde...et en Italie notamment.....Mais que dire des pays sud-américains qui nous fournissent une kyrielle de bons chanteurs d'opéra.....que nous avons le plaisir d'entendre chez nous..;et ailleurs.
Une bonne voix peut chanter beaucoup de choses. en direct,sans micro......une voix peu travaillée ne chantera pas grand chose....si des variétés avec micro et un arsenal de technique pour améliorer artificiellement la voix.....

Well, you hear how strong her voice is? she's singing with her diaphragm. That's what opera singers do, and your diaphragm is a very strong muscle to use. So, when you use it your body reacts regardless, from all of that power and strength you're using.
^_^ How do I know this? My mother was an opera singer too.

Not true! See the Pavarotti Masterclass video with Schaxnader. He had 200 performances at the Met.
Domingo is a vastly better teacher than Pavarotti but his students are not too good. In the previous video in this collection almost all of them are hopeless.
This soprano is pretty good but Liu is a very, very competitive part. Everybody can sing it. If she could do Turandot she would have been famous.

Puccini is so hard to master, because often these young singers think the evocation is more important than the text.

Pues le está dando unas buenas indicaciones de fraseo. Que el no tenga la voz de Kraus para poder hacerlo no significa que no tenga oído y que no sepa cómo hay que cantarlo correctamente. Después cada uno con su voz hace lo que puede. Como decía el Maestro Kraus "cada uno que lo cante como pueda y con lo que tenga".

Domingo ha sido Calaf !!!! No cómo nosotros que lo vemos desde la butaca. Él lo ha sido. Ha estado en su piel. Lo ha vivido. Y en los mejores teatros del mundo. Y ha tenido a su lado a unas Liu buenísimas que le cantaban a él !!!!! Se lo cantaban a él sopranos de primera categoría!!!!!!
Cómo no va a saber cómo se canta esto ?????
