- In this harmonica bending lesson, I will teach you and exercise that will get you bending, especially if you're having trouble going deep enough or getting the bends to work on hole three.

Tks a lot teacher !!! Great, great tip.
The man I bought my first harp from years ago told me that when he bent a note, he could feel air going up his nose. That was the main key to me starting to learn to bend a note.
I tried it and I will have to check it out with my bending app, but I think you're on to something! I think I got lower on the 3 hole than I normally can. Thanks Jonah!
Great! 👍
I got the 1 and a half step bend on hole 3 trying this, still struggling with the half and full step bend though. Still, progress is progress 😅
Top improvement!!!, that was I needed to be more consistent in the bending. I was able to bend but non consistently, the Key, Kay, Kuy definetly help to define a specific mouth and tongue position.
As apprendice I also have a great advice that helped me a lot on bending.
I was strugling for months without achieving a decent bending until I discover that my main problem was the posture of my neck.
When I was playing I used to keep my head forward and tilting my neck forward as well.
Well, I started keeping my head back and my neck straight and BAM!!! I was bending!
If you combine both the technique you achieve very deep bending, at least that is working for me and maybe other guys can solve same problem I had.
Great material Jonah thank you so much! 🤩
Thank you Nino... I didn't even think about my neck... I have a reverse neck curve, so I am going to focus on your keeping my head back and my neck straight... I will get back to you soon with my findings.!! 😊🙏
So far I can get a full bend on 1 and 4, ill use these exercises to improve and get bends on the others. Thanks a bunch!
You're welcome!
Got it 🙂 Thanks Jonah!
Awesome ✌️
Brill vid, 👍
I've watch loads of vids showing various ways of bending notes, none worked worked for me. While driving, I had the car radio on,. Unconsciously I started to whistle to one of the songs. Then I realised what my tongue was doing to get the low draw notes. So when I got home, I tried it, not perfect but my 1st bend.
Is your method in this vid. the same idea?
Yep!
@@HarmonicaRevolution It works 😊
All these exercises have you blowing to form the sounds, "Eee-Ooo" etc...whereas the bend is a draw breath. Im guessing the exercises just train the tongue muscles. Cheers
Exactly. You obviously can’t make a sound in the same way on an inhale, but your tongue moves identically to a bend.
Would this work for blow bends as well? I can seem to get almost every bend easily now (minus overblowing and overdrawing, but I don’t think I would ever use those) but I’m struggling with getting hole 10 to bend at all.
Yea, but the trick on blow bends is to move your tongue closer. Just use the “eee-ooo” part with your tongue closer to the comb. See what a couple days of that practice gets you.
@@HarmonicaRevolution thanks, I’ll try that. Much like the student you mentioned, basically nothing else has helped me with that lol
No matter what method i try [I've been trying a couple years now] i cannot seem to reach a 3 hole draw 1 1/2 step bend?..
Thankfully, there's not much use of that bend, if it's any consolation.
I struggle with that too... Try tilting the harmonica up slightly and or dropping your jaw a bit... It may help to reduce the airflow some for that note also... I still can't achieve it reliably on tougher reeds like phosphor bronze/ stainless steel... brass reeds are much easier to deep bend...😊
Guess I need loads more practice
Just keep at it! It may take time, but the more you try this, the more likely you are to finally find the right movements inside your mouth.
Would be fantastic in 3D animation from inside your mouth. Just an idea. ;) Keep up going Jonah.
I don’t have the skills or the budget to do that unfortunately. Maybe in the future.
