To Lorenzo Dunn: The NOTAR concept was going to Bell Helicopter when Boeing acquired McDonnell Douglas. Sikorsky filed a complaints about Bell taking over the market with NOTAR, a group of businessmen bought McDonnell Douglas Helicopters civil division while Boeing kept the Apache.
Hey Ryan, I got the N520PD tattoo'd on my forearm. I hope to show you sometime. My dad was an aircraft mechanic for the Air Force; took us kids to Brbk airport often. God Bless.
The tail rotor is common on almost all helicopters, but there is a line of them that use an unconventional method. You can read more about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOTAR
Thank you for the above wisdom. I respect what you shared and I thank you for taking the time to teach us about this incredible machine. I am so fascinated by helicopters. I could listen to that sweet sound all day long. Yet, our dear gardening team with their equally impressive machines (blowers, mowers, etc) have the sound that pierce my ears. Life is GRAND! Thanks again guys. Wish you the best always!!!
Less components to go wrong/maintain/replace, safer and much much quieter than tailrotor. MD have the patent for that system that’s why you don’t see it commonly.
Yup, ive flown with him before. Very cool down to earth guy. can’t put his name out but he’s a really cool dude. He no longer has that helmet , unfortunately.
The number of legitimate police missions that could possibly justify an expense of this magnitude, is very, very small. Imagine how many patrol officers and patrol cars could have been funded, instead of obtaining this helicopter and its pilots and mechanics and fuel and insurance and overhauls and hanger.
Great Helo, sounds nice as it fly's by. BUT, I used to live near Western and Victory in Glendale and just about every afternoon around 1630 this fucking ship would perform a standard rate orbit in the area about 650 ft. A.G.L. for more than 20 minutes at a time. Being forced to listen to that extremely loud No-Tar for that length of time and at such a low altitude was excruciatingly irritating. I called B.P.D. once to complain only to have the dispatcher try to shut me down. But when I spoke of my own aviation experience and the knowledge of exactly what was going on, the Helo mysteriously went away 3 minutes after termination of the call. HMMM ?!?!?!!!!
NO TA il R otor = NO TA R = NOTAR, . . . . . So No Big Deal . . . Just a Helicopter without a propeller sticking out the back They replace it with an fan inside that big Pipe that sticks out the back instead. You'll notice how long they just sit there burning fuel . . . That's because they get paid by the hour.

NaYawkr No... it's to let the turbine cool down before shutting it down
@ exactly its like driving a truck or tractor all day long once the job is done you don't just turn the engine off you let it cool for about 2-5 mins because turning the engine off after working it hard and not letting it cool down is a grate way to kill a turbo and the same apply's to gas turbine engines.
That is a spectacular, gorgeous ship!
It`s a gorgeous helicopter!
That's some of the best footage of a NOTAR I think on TH-cam! Great video and thanks for posting!
Great Arrival & Departure footage Ryan, always a treat watching the NOTAR in action :)
No doubt, thanks Ed!
Excellent film footage and soundtrack. NOTAR is a concept that should be adapted for other airframes.

This has to be the BEST job in policing.
Why is this Chopper angled downside to the rear instead of leveled out horizontal ?
outstanding!
Thanks for watching, Brian!

What's up, buddy? Thanks for watching my little video & for the comment. Always very appreciated.
Great footage. Incredible machine 😍
That's a lot of rotor for such a little craft.
beautiful machine
For what purpose did it come?
wow that's the best I've ever seen good footage man. I wonder why it only has just the overhead propellers and not the tail prop???

RyanBomar thanks for the info I've just finished reading about it didn't know they made some helicopters like that.

What a great job! Best job in Law Enforcement. Heli is beautifull.
Very cool!
The new helicopter purchase could be the Guimbal Cabri2 two seaters, cheaper and still efficient
Cool, assume it also has video too.. 8-)

Yup, ive flown with him before. Very cool down to earth guy. can’t put his name out but he’s a really cool dude. He no longer has that helmet , unfortunately.
MD500N is the Porsche 911 turbo S of helicopters.

Nice bird... Pilot In Command needs some practice though.
Lol what?! I trust that pilot with my life.

This helicopter needs to be removed from service. Death machine.
Only real helicopters blades spin anti clockwise
I find the large tail ruins the beautiful aesthetic look the earlier models had
