Made the switch to Snell for the 2019 season and haven't looked back. Absolutely the best ball (pound for pound) on the market. I trust Dean over any ball manufacturer in the game today.
I'm glad y'all made this video. I'm playing professionally and I've been using the snell MTB for over a year now. Having played the prov1x my entire life I can't tell the difference besides the price.
Been playing with the Vice Pro balls for 2 years now...you can’t beat the value and the performance is just as good as the others including the Pro V1s and TP5s. Thanks for the review. Can’t wait to show this to the ball snobs I play with!
Bought 3 TP5 balls to try out on the course. Absolutely loved the feel until I had lost 2 on the front 9. Yep, sticking with cheap balls till that ball loss rate decreases.......
Robert Bowman that’s the main thing in all this. When I first started 5-6 years ago I didn’t care about the kind of ball I was using. I started shooting 100-105 from the tips. Two years ago I started shooting in the mid to low 80s way more consistently and went into last year saying that if I didn’t break 80 I would quit. Last year I broke 80 for the first time. This year I’ve started researching balls finally. Didn’t know Bridgestone made balls for Nike all those years. I started using used Prov1s last year and started hitting the ball further. Was putting drives in spots I never did before. Did I get a little better at golf to break 80? Did the ball help a lot? Probably a bit of both.
I just started back golfing last year. I found a Snell ball in the woods and tried it. I was shock at the feel and the distance of it. I now buy used Snell balls for when I’m playing the woods or water and new when I’m relatively safe play. Even though the balls are both inexpensive, I still cringe when I lose one, lol.
I played the original Snell and now the red line and they are amazing. Have a few people hooked on them and I hope everyone gives them a chance! Great testing guys. Also the Vice gloves are amazing and the price is right on too!
Currently undergoing swing changes to address some issues but I’ve always spun and launched the ball WAY to high, especially with my irons. It took me a long time to try and go away from the prov type balls to a “cheaper” ball but I’m liking the performance of the vice tour and actually have been able to play a bit better in windy conditions with it. Just highlights what you are saying about trying things for yourself. Great video, as always.
I used to play ProV1, but tried 5 dozen Vice Pro+ last season and a couple dozen Snell Black and Red over the past few weeks. I've got a 100mph swing speed, and my index is 11 (down from 12 last year when I was using ProV1)... Overall, the balls are very similar - it's hard to say which are best. Although I think I'm leaning towards the Snell Red since they seem to spin more into the greens and really hold well. I'll probably just buy 6 dozen at the discounted price of US$27/doz, which is much better than the US$48/doz ProV1 price. Titliest is just not worth the extra money, and since nobody else at my club uses Snell (for now), I don't have to waste time marking my balls
I've switched from ProV1* to VicePro+. No difference at all except half the price😉. I also found that the Vice is more predectible on back spin on the green than ProV. Cost is approx 35$cdn per dzn delivered to your home when order 5 dzn. You can also order a selected pack that have 5 different sleeves so you can try all of their balls.
Quick clarifications: We mentioned in the video that the 'off-brand' balls were about half the price of Prov1's. That's not correct, they're about 2/3 of the price. Also, the Oncor and Snell balls tested in this video are 3-piece balls, not 4-piece as we said.
you also mentioned these DTC balls (*D*irect *T*o *C*onsumer, you're welcome 😉) balls are 4-piece, also not true, the Elixr and MTB Black are 3-piece....good review guys, I made the switch to the Elixr from the ProV1 about six months ago and haven't looked back, excellent all round ball
@silvestre we didn't film a why in the bag for Dustin this week. Mostly because we had a few other videos we wanted to shoot instead and time didn't allow for more, and also because we're pretty sure he's going to win at least one more time this season anyway! 😉
Did a ball fitting with Cam last summer and ended up with the Snells. Can’t say enough about how good they are and at the price point really can’t be beat!
This review is the exact reason I switched from Pro V1 to the Snell. Not to mention the huge cost savings. Dave Snell comes from that heritage of designing got Titlest and TaylorMade so he definitely knows what he is doing
On course I payed the ProV1 and Vice Pro this year, 120 yards and in my scores were better with the ProV1 as it was easier to control consistent trajectory and spin for me. I played the ProV1 in tourneys and money rounds and the Vice Pro for everything else, helps take the sting out of premium ball cost.
The Snell MTB black and red are great. I went with their trial pack and liked red for the extra short iron, greenside extra spin. Definitely a great ball especially for the price. I'm guessing you guys used the Snell black, or the original MTB (original is basically what the black is now but with a touch lower compression). As always great content you guys are putting out.
Balls are so close in performance. I may not should say this but I am great at finding the previous generation of tour Srixon or tour Bridgestone balls online, brand new for even less then these non-mainstream balls. I figure the B330s or Zstar XV that the pros were playing just a year or 2 ago is just fine for me. Great video guys! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I bought some Vice/Oncore about a year ago because of this video. After doing my own “testing” on the course, I’ve been playing Vice Pro for probably 6-7 months & love it. I’m not sure about the other companies but I know with Vice, the price listed is only if you buy 1 dozen, if you buy more than 1 dozen at a time, the price goes down even more. Especially around holidays/birthday, I’ll ask for gift cards & buy maybe 5 dozen at a time for around $25 dozen instead of $35 for a dozen (US).
Really appreciate the great videos you guys do. Thanks so much. For me, putting is the acid test. I can tell more difference putting. I prefer the pro V1 versus AVX or TP5 which are all great balls.
Really cool comparison. Interesting how in this test the Snell is considerably longer, but in other tests such as from Crossfield and a few others didn't show nearly the same gap in distance. Matt sure does hit it pretty hard though so maybe that's where it comes from. I've played the Vice Pro and did notice that it seems a little shorter than a normal ProV by a couple yards, which is just something you have to get used to. It does spin really nicely like a ProV, so I can live with the distance for half the price. It just goes to show you how delivery of the club and the golfer's swing is really the most defining factor of how these balls perform.
Great video lads. Prov1 for me for many years now and still love them. Purchased a dozen of the new chrome soft and one of them split in 2 which really surprised me. (no I didn’t thin it lol). That being said would have no problem trying any of the balls in the test.
Really good episode and great comparison. Seems I'm in the minority of the Direct to Consumer balls here, as I have been playing the ElIXR for about two months now and love it. Your results showed what I see when I compared it to the Prov1 I was also playing. Just a touch behind the ProV in a lot of categories, but for the price difference, is certainly more than suitable.
I commented about the cut blue last year hoping you guys would test it. I was actually testing a bunch of budget balls at the time. Within the year I decided that the OnCore Elixr was the best ball out there for me. Funny to go back and watch this video and see that it hung in with the ProV1 so well. Keep up the great work boys. Still loving the videos
Great video! Maybe going forward the Srixon's Q Star Tour is a budget ball that works well for slower swing speeds. A video going forward on the improved performance with mid handicap swing speeds.
Really enjoyed the Ball comparison Guys, thanks once again. Personally I would not buy Titleist Balls on principle as I think they are a complete rip-off. As a Senior Hacker I always find that Premium Balls spin way too much (with my driver) and usually make a dash for the nearest Rough never to be seen again! In a Ball fitting 2 years ago I was advised to change over to a Soft compression two piece Ball and have found that these do indeed work MUCH BETTER for me and my driver (some times they even stay on the Fairway, honest)! So I would be interested to hear from your viewers of a similar age whether they have had similar findings These days I either play the Wilson DX2 or Vice Pro Soft, both perform equally well and both are at a sensible Price point that doesn't make you wince or risk life and limb trying to rescue your pristine PRO V1 from the undergrowth.
The biggest issue for me is around the greens and putting. I game Srixon ZStar XV (113Mph SS). Tried Project a, Chrome Soft and more recently AD333 Tour and none of them hold the spin as well with chip shots. Also the ball seems to come quicker off the face with the putter. I found the same results as Matt with longer clubs. I could not tell the difference between balls as all felt nice. I think you should do a video with this same range of balls but 15 yards and in
I bought a test pack of the Snell MTBs and finally tried them out today on my home course (Deerwood). Y’all will know the 4th hole as the 18th hole of the US Open in the movie Tin Cup lol. Both of these balls were fantastic compared to my gamer (Pro V1X)....tons of zip with wedges and chip shots, soft feel off the putter, and cut through the wind like butter off the tee!!
I have been playing the Snell MTB for two years, just started using the new MTB Black when they came out and its a great ball, the red is nice as well but spins quite a bit more of the irons than the Black if you need more spin that's a great choice. I am not surprised to see how closely these balls perform. I just don't know why anyone would spend the extra money on Pro V any more, although I know some guys that just wont let go of theirs.
"One of these balls often wins and you won't tell us" ... Haven't felt this let down since they cancelled the Flintstones. :-) My balls, Snell yes it gets a laugh when announce what your playing but extremely happy with they work for me, never turn down a Pro V either biggest thing me is I like staying with the same ball over a period of time. Probably placebo effect but I just feel these balls are more forgiving. Can't wait for the next TXG video greatest thing since the Flintstones:-) Thumbs up.
Good review, just to say Vice do a selection pack to try all there balls, 2 balls of each. I got one then decided on the vice tour for the feel and price range, saves wasting money on a few boxes of balls you don't like.
Great test. I love seeing these balls compete at a high level. I do think that a ball with an audible "click" will feel like it's light and will reduce confidence. I love feeling like a ball is slightly heavy off the face. Feels like I'm playing a more controlled ball.
New to the channel, loved this. Have you ever done ProV1 comped to the midlevels like the Velocity, Warbird, TM Burner etc? Would like to see what you actually get for twice the price
The moment I've been waited for!!! Pausing the school work for the next 20 minutes. EDIT: Good video. I was surprised at how well the Snell balls performed, I may have to grab some after I run out of my Superhot/Supersofts. Also, nice mention of the Kirkland Signatures. Haven't been lucky enough to find them around me but I check almost every week for them.
No surprise to the average player that has played the MTB by Snell ball. Less expensive and plays as well as the Titleist for the average player. We are always lead to believe that a higher price is better. The average player isn’t that consistent at striking the ball to get the benefit of a ProV1.
Love your work guys. Please continue. Would love to see you conduct the same test for entry level 2 piece ball for your mid to high working class handicappers. Thanks. Mich
Just started playing the Vice Pro, I can buy 20 Vice Pro balls for the same price as 12 Pro V1, yet for me they perform the same. Difficult to argue against that. Tried the Chrome Soft and just hated the feel (although performance was decent). Srixon Z Star though were also very nice and a little cheaper than Pro V1.
Been using the Vice Pro for a while now. I can't see much of a difference between it and the ProV1 in terms of distance, spin and feel but the covers get cut up really easy.
Excellent review, I play the vice pro plus and like the ball. However the review for me reaffirms that the Titleist remains the best ball....it's low spin off the driver but still achieves 500-600 rpm more on the wedges and scoring clubs. There's quite a few reviews out there ( Peter Finch comes to mind) that highlight similar results. My purchase is purely based on price.
I don't see that at all. The spin differences are negligible for that majority of us weekend golfers. A few hundred rpm here or there is only going to make a couple of feet difference in where the ball ends up. If you actually got a half club length extra off the tee as this test suggests that would give you on average a shorter club into the green with the Snell balls, negating any perceived advantage in spin anyway. Tee to green I don't see any difference among these balls for most of us since we're not playing on baked out 14 stimpmeter greens with cereal bowl gradient like the pros are.
You were asking if the lower price balls will take market share from the prov1 players or the nxt players. I can say I have just switched from prov1 to vice pro plus and I am absolutely thrilled with the performance of the vice ball. The durability is great compared to prov1, and the vice seem to even spin more for me on the greens. I've played four rounds so far this year with these balls and two of those round are my record lows if that says anything.
Interested in getting your opinion on balls for high handicap players, i.e., premium/pro balls versus balls like Taylor Made Project (a), Srixon Q-Star Tour, Bridgestone B330 RX/Tour B RX.
If you are a high handicap use a cheap distance ball. An expensive ball typically spins more than a distance ball. That spin will make your shots slice or hook farther offline. If your problem is thinned or fatted shots, it won't matter. Might as well thin a cheap ball into that pond. ;)
great video, even though I was a few years behind haha! ordered the vice variety pack and took them to my local 80-100 yd 9 hole track for comparison: the Pro immediately jumped out! I was expecting the ProPlus (4 piece construction) to win, but the feel, launch and spin of the Pro was unmatched! so fun to really test equipment, TXG always makes me want to explore all the options and understand what I’m seeing! thanks guys!
I haven’t even got to the testing in the video yet lol. But I play the Vice pro soft absolutely love that ball and for the price if you get 5 dozen at once it’s hard to beat for me personally. I’ve been playing strictly Vice for the last 3ish years at least as long as the prices don’t skyrocket I’ll continue to stick w them. Good luck w your game my man!
Wedge feel seems way more important to me for my ball. Started gaming ProV1x yellow 2019 and have found amazing success on wedge consistency. Sometimes a bit too much spin but good strikes are always rewarded with a stable ball flight
Great test and definitely in line with others I've seen. The one thing I rarely see though in videos of this nature is translation from golf speak into real world speak. What I mean is, what does that few hundred rpm difference actually mean on the course for us average SS golfers? At 14:54 for example you mentioned that the Snell ball "didn't have the spin to stop it on the green" when in fact you were talking about 300 rpm. On the course I'd guess that the difference between where those two balls would end up might be a foot or two even with the same angle of descent and probably equal given the Snell's slightly higher descent angle. If we're relying on the digital data though, your own data shows the ProV1 with a 17 yard rollout and the Snell with a 14 yard rollout given the parameters indicated in the test. The other thing to consider is that the Snell is half a club longer off the tee which also gives you a slight advantage in both spin and descent angle. All in all some great data but, like many others I would assume, I'd love to see a similar test for us 90-100 mph SS guys and see what happens.
The rollout data isn't something we'd consider to be universally applicable data, the GC Quad software tends to have very firm ground particularly on the green conditions. Carry numbers, descent angle and spin are better to analyze especially since courses all over the world have different ground conditions.
I've played Snells for two years now, starting with the original MTB. I tried the MTB Black and MTB Red, and came to the following conclusion: if you already deliver a lot of spin, the Reds might spin TOO MUCH for you. I play the Wilson V6s and hit a neutral flight to a slight fade, and I was ripping 6 irons back 20 feet with the Reds. The Reds also didn't fly as far with my driver, probably because I need to upgrade the driver and it was also delivering too much spin. The Blacks are perfect for me - long and straight off the tee, and with every iron in my bag (even up to 3 hybrid) they stop dead on the greens - almost always within a few feet of their pitch mark. That allows me take dead aim at a spot on the green and know that it won't shoot forward or rip backward. Hope this helps some people still searching out there.
And to follow-up on that thought, my cousin plays a draw with his Mizuno irons and he achieves the same stopping power with the Reds as I do with the Blacks. The simple rule of thumb might be: draw = Reds, neutral/fade = Blacks.
I really like the Bridgestone Tour B series of balls. The RX line is perfect for the winter and early spring when the swing speeds are slower. Also, really like buying used from LostGolfBalls.com , sure I'd like to always buy new, but these are only hit a few times and are still in really great condition.
U guys said good compliment to titlest pro v1 but snell actually designed the pro v 1 for titlest. And snell new ball is very close or as close without crossing into patent of pro v 1 sold to titlest
I use the Bridgestone brx , low spin and long distance type of balls . I like them also because they often go 40 percent off and I like the shape of the dimples .
Great job Team TXG. This test shows that for Matt level swing speeds, in general, the differences are very minimal. Snell's 6i performance stood out a touch more, but overall, the separation across the brands is trivial. Next stop....premium vs. premium. Any chance of getting Sam to do a high/mid handicapper test?
Strike/swing delivery consistency would be a concern with using a high handicap player for this type of test. Adding too many variables to the test to give you guys proper objective data. Hopefully we can do one with either a very consistent slower speed player, or I can dial it back a bit for that video.
Wonderful review. All balls performed +/- equal except driver where Vice was a couple of % points less; irons/wedges were to all intents and purposes identical. A blind test by handicap golfers using their own ball (unmarked) in the mix would be interesting in studio and on course but I'm sure the same conclusion would be reached. If extended to cover TP5, Mizuno RB Tour, Callaway Soft, Tiger's Bridgestone, Srixon Z Star, Wilson FG Tour, Volvik S4 oh and Honma, they are all fantastic balls and there or thereabouts to the majority of golfers and Iron Byron would probably confirm this too. When leaves fall I switch to a coloured ball such as Wilson DX3 Red Optic or Volvic S4 Red as these I can follow. But come the new (now delayed season) I'll try Vice Pro or Plus, and then return to old faithful Pro V1 with it's inherent quality and comfort factor. If my wife and twins knew the price difference and performance Vice wins hands down. But I'm stupid and old, when next on the 1st tee out will come my ProV1 # 69 - my age and hoped for score - over the 1st 16 holes that is. Keep the reviews coming - lefties rule OK!
Playing the Snell MTB-Black right now. Won an online contest back in March and got a dozen MTB-X, but have yet to put them in play. The 'X' is the Goldilocks ball for Snell. People complained about spin rates on the MTB Red as being too high off the driver, and the Black was too low. The X is supposed to split the difference, as well as offer better spin on irons and wedges than the Red. Of note is the ability of the Black to hold a line with less side spin. I'm usually good for a lost ball per 9. Went 14 holes into my most recent round before finally losing a ball. Even then, it was a horribly struck ball off the toe of a hybrid that would have sent any ball into the woods. I'm a 13 handicap, but recently drove a 272 yard par 4 green with these balls. and in the same round had a 41 for the back nine. I found myself being surprised by the quality of the shots that I got from the ball with what I consider less than optimum strikes.
It is just a matter of time for Snell to become as popular as ProV1 in the hands of the average golfer. Snell’s prices in Canada will increase slightly but will still be 20% cheaper than Titleist and TaylorMade high end balls. Introduction to the local pro shops will make them easier to get. Part of Titleist’ success in selling their high end balls is their enormous marketing budget as well as paying the tour players to play their ball. I can’t wait to try the MTB black next season here on the east coast.
The duo soft was amazing when I barley swung it was springy an dead straight ,but if u swing hard it sucks an spun too much, not straight . I went back to pro v 1 nothing compares to perfection
Can you also do a video comparing slightly blemished golf ball to a brand new ball as mention in the video 18:50/20:36? How does it affect the performance and numbers?
Ball testing starts at 7:48
lol....thx.
ProV1~Vice Pro (3 layer)
ProV1x~Vice Pro+ (4 layer)

Bucks did they test mtb black or mtb x
@@richeatongolf They were testing the MTB black. The MTB x comes in a blue case.
Bucks nice thanks. Interesting that ball has so much distance. Will have to try
Me too Bucks! Long. Tons of short game spin.
I play the MTBX.

The great thing about a cheaper ball is you are less attached to it when it goes into the woods
😆😆😆
:D lol. Amen to THAT, Brother.
not if your on a score then they're all your babies

Snell is by far the best ball for the money! I play with it all the time and love it!

When you buy 5 doz Vice the price is $25 a dozen. I do this once ever year or so.
TXG Tour Experience Golf you may have already corrected this, but the Snell MTB Black is not a 4-piece, and neither is the ProV1.
Did a ball fitting with Cam last summer and ended up with the Snells. Can’t say enough about how good they are and at the price point really can’t be beat!
I just ordered the Snell and the variety pack of the Vice. I really liked the feel of the Vice, I can’t wait to try the Snell. Thanks guys.

I would love to see the Cut Blue as apart of one of these tests.
I've been using Vice Pro Plus balls for 2 years now and I'll never look back. They perform better than any major brand ball I've used, since Nike.
So I would be interested to hear from your viewers of a similar age whether they have had similar findings
These days I either play the Wilson DX2 or Vice Pro Soft, both perform equally well and both are at a sensible Price point that doesn't make you wince or risk life and limb trying to rescue your pristine PRO V1 from the undergrowth.
I'm 63 and a 13 handicap and I definitely agree. I use soft balls all the time. The only time I use Titliest is when I find one!
LOL, me to
The biggest issue for me is around the greens and putting.
I think you should do a video with this same range of balls but 15 yards and in
I use the srixon z star XV great ball and great just noticed $23.99 a dozen at sportchek. That is srixon comparable ball to the prov1x
Another good ball, one I finally tried and wish I had sooner, the Wilson Staff Duo Urethane. Great ball at a reasonable price.
I'd like to see something even more budget. Some rocks from your local generic sports shop. Dunlop or something cheap and nasty like that.
Funny considering Dunlop owns Srixon, XXIO, Cleveland
yellow range balls
@@MarkTodd33 I’ve got to be honest, I hit some bombs with range balls - don’t care about losing them so I swing much violently
Oh, Roy!
Thanks guys will give the Snell a go for sure
I recently switched to the Snell golf ball. I gained yardage with my longshots in control around the greens. Best ball for my money!
Started playing the vice pro+ recently and I love them. At 25 Usd/dozen I cant justify buying pro v1 for twice the price for the same performance.
Isaiah Bergemann completely agree, I'm also playing the vice pro plus instead of a prov1
I love the video guys. I use a Zstar and it is amazing. Tried ProV1x, Chromesoft and TP5x... Srixon is great value and great performance.!
I would love to see some other ball testing videos! Particularly on putting as I find that’s really where feel is so different from brand to brand
Another very informative discussion on a part of the bag that people don’t consider to be as important as say a $500 Driver. Well done guys👍
As always quality production... food for thought
Great work guys, always nice feel in your videos and a bunch of learning to be done!
Just played the snell MTB red today. Great stopping power in my short game
Haven't finished the video but the vice pro plus is what I've been using and I find it better than pro v1 for me.. not even accounting for the cost
No surprise to the average player that has played the MTB by Snell ball. Less expensive and plays as well as the Titleist for the average player. We are always lead to believe that a higher price is better. The average player isn’t that consistent at striking the ball to get the benefit of a ProV1.
Very interesting video guys. Can't wait to see what's next. Keep up the great work.
Im a Snell fan and user, defo improved my game, really consistent solid ball and great value.
You guys need to do a review of the AVX. I’m sure a lot of people would love to see that compared to other balls including the ProV1 and ProV1x.
great Video guys, I would like to see the Bridgestone B330 and 330S against the Prov 1 and 1X
Awesome video! Great comparison information you guys keep it up! I’ve never been fit but I hope my first experience is as good as you guys
amazing stuff guys. purely the best I have ever seen for golf videos. Would LOVE to see the best ball for Blades players. Please! :)
Let’s be honest:
You’re going to pay more attention to a guy talking about golf if he has a Scottish accent.
minnesotajack1 So true
You have to because you can barely understand them.
The Project (a) is a great ball for the price, i have always been a fan of it.
If you are a high handicap use a cheap distance ball. An expensive ball typically spins more than a distance ball. That spin will make your shots slice or hook farther offline. If your problem is thinned or fatted shots, it won't matter. Might as well thin a cheap ball into that pond. ;)
Love the snell ball
Have regularly played snell MTB black in the last year as it compared to pro v1 at better price. Will try the snell MTB red next week 👌👌
great video, even though I was a few years behind haha! ordered the vice variety pack and took them to my local 80-100 yd 9 hole track for comparison: the Pro immediately jumped out!
Very informative! Waiting to see a comparison between major ball brands...
I'd love to see you guys test the srixon xv against the prov1x
Wedge feel seems way more important to me for my ball. Started gaming ProV1x yellow 2019 and have found amazing success on wedge consistency. Sometimes a bit too much spin but good strikes are always rewarded with a stable ball flight
Oncore golf is from my home town, Buffalo NY!!!! So proud to have a great golf ball company in my home town!
Would love to see the tour XS when you do tp5 and the prov1. Keep.it up!
I love your videos Ian! I’m hoping to come get a fitting from you before next season!
Do a comparison on the MTB X
I like this test, might try the snell mtb. I've tried the vise ball and liked that also, but didn't like Oncore, that felt firm.
That encore was low key 🔑 super consistent and in the ideal parameters with least sidespin every test but not mentioned...really good all around ball
Most accurate balls, longest balls, highest spinning balls are all interesting debates between balls. Would love to see those videos
I am interested in how ball’s compression affect the flight and driving distance.
Another good video I think like clubs people want what Tour players use although you have proved they are as good a ball as the pro v.
- I ordered a variety pack of some VICE, & so far so good, just as good as a PRO V1
The duo soft was amazing when I barley swung it was springy an dead straight ,but if u swing hard it sucks an spun too much, not straight . I went back to pro v 1 nothing compares to perfection
Also apart from Srixon Ad 333 The Taylormade project (a) ball is fantastic and at a good price
Can you also do a video comparing slightly blemished golf ball to a brand new ball as mention in the video 18:50/20:36? How does it affect the performance and numbers?
