I appreciate your video. You can tell Dean just wants to make the best ball possible without gouging the consumer. His background alone should be enough to market his products, and your content helps get that information out there to the consumer. I liked how he presented his product and then you proceeded to test and provide honest feedback and data separately. For me, personally, that resulted in a fair test that did not feel like an infomercial or paid advertisement. Well done, sir...
Just the way Mr Snell talks and explains the concept, with the experience he brings...such a humble and trustworthy kind of guy. Plus, looks like the product tested awesome. A bit worried for that firmer feel around the greens, but no question, I'll buy a couple of dozens straight away and trust Dean!
Testing always seems to reveal that as avg club head speed decreases, the differences in balls fades. Thanks for the straight up tasting. For me with no obvious gains at my speed why not choose price🤔
Hi I am a 70 year old guy who is re-inventing himself for a golfing retirement! I am having a course of lessons to improve and also to ensure all my equipment is right for me and that of course includes golf balls. I like the videos you guys do and I will definitely like to include the new Snell MTB-x in my testing regime. Many thanks MyGolfSpy and lets all have a great new golfing year. Oh ...p.s. my wife is beating me at the mo! :(
Wait, this guy had a hand in both the HP2 Tour AND Professional! Those were the only golf balls I used when I golfed heavily in the 90's - 2000. Thank you Mr. Snell
Excited to try these out. I think snell is very underrated in the direct to consumer market. Vice is a “sexier” ball but I don’t like how the feel. Snell feels and performs way better but I hardly see anybody using them.
Been playing MTB Black for about 12 months, love the ball. Thanks Dean for listening and coming out with a optic yellow choice. Looking forward to trying the X, as well. :)
Love this... Put it right up against this year's ProV. Definitely shows that these perform just as well for a much lower price point. I knew Dean was involved with the original design of ProV1, but it was very interesting that he was involved with some balls over at TM. You mentioned he was involved with the TM Lethal. I did love that ball. I felt that ball flew very well especially in the wind. It also had a special place in my heart as that is the ball I used when I got my hole in one. Thanks, Dean, for all you've done. I recently purchased a rested pack with the MTB Black and Red. I've been putting them through my little testing. Waiting for weather to break to get some outside work to see how they fly in the course. Thanks to MyGolfSpy for running this test to show the actual, unbiased numbers. Keep up the great work in exposing the truth in golf outside the marketing hype.
Would love to test the snell golf balls. I currently play the ProV 1 and have for years. But very intrigued by Snell as it looks like snell definitely performs as well as ProV 1's but at least $15 cheaper per dozen. But would definitely like to try them out to make sure they fit well for my game. I am a 3-4 handicap.
Snell has been growing its market the old fashioned way, great product, reasonable price. All American winning combination. Keep it a secret? Good news travels fast and so does Snell Golf Balls! Kudos Dean Snell!!!
I've been enjoying MTB-Black for a year or so now. Got turned onto it by a random guy i met on a course who tossed me one and said here see how you like this. Haven't bought a different brand since. I know the new X is meant to replace Red but i'd love to see a Black vs X comparison done over the same categories. Also listening to Dean Snell talk golf balls is so much better than the marketing babble from all the other brands.
I’m glad they came out with yellow! So much easier to see and you can tell which ball is yours from far away (unless someone else in your group is playing yellow). Definitely will be giving the new X ball a try.
Nice review. Mr Snell knows his stuff and he is honest, which makes a change! No wild claims, just solid facts. Perhaps it might be better to test with a five iron and a nine iron? The lower lofts and greater ball compression at strike might tease out any subtle differences. Keep up the good work.
Excellent review. Demonstrates importance of doing a golf ball fitting. Sometimes the best ball for you is not what you think it is or the most expensive. Have the MTB red, curious to try MTB-X
i have been playing Snell balls since they came to market. they are the equal to if not better than any premium high priced “ tour” ball. They feel great have great distance and superb spin and feel.the covers stay much whiter and cleaner than any Titleist and are comparable to the high end Bridgestone models in staying “ new looking”.
I bought a test pack of the MTB Black and MTB Red toward the end of the year and I was happy with both models, although I preferred MTB Black a little more. I'll be getting another test pack for the Black/X in yellow right away to help me differentiate when I test them out on the course. Great video as always
I am really interested in playing the black version next season. Picked up some via direct marketing late in Dec. Always played a Bridgestone ball and like them. High end balls really don’t do much for me as a high handicapper. Loosing 2 to 3 per round can be very costly at the price they charge for ProV1 balls. Snell’s pricing is very reasonable. Would love to try some of the new “X” balls when available. Thanks for your reviews.
I bought some MTB black late last year to test against the TaylorMade TPx...might need to get some of the new MTBx t9 test. I’ve always liked the clickey sound of the Pro V1x
I just played my first round with the MTB Red. I went back to order more and the MTB X has replaced it. I ordered a couple dozen of the last stock of Reds. I am looking forward to getting a box of the X’s.
I have been hitting the Snells for a while now. Tried the Red and Black in a test pack. Both fantastic golf balls, but the Black spun less for me on approaches. However I liked the Red more around the green so would be real keen to try the MTB-X and see if that first me better than the Black. Honestly if you have not tried the Snell, give them a go.
Love the video (and a vendor willing to test his ball against the "other guy"). Very comparable for us normal guys around 100 or less. Tells us we don't need to spend 48 buck a dozen on great golf balls. Kind of interested in the feel on the green with the putter in hand.
Actually found a box of Snell's at Wal-Mart in the play it again model of used balls. Had a mixture at the blacks, reds, and get sum and was really impressed with the performance and feel. Dean Snell makes some excellent products.
Currently testing the MTB RED and BLACK after getting them as a Christmas gift. I'd love to add the X to the test before deciding on my 2019 gamer vs my current Chrome soft X. Swing 105 with driver and play to a 5.4. Thanks for the video and testing.
I already use the MTB Black as my gamer. I tried the Red but didn't have the distance on the tee. Black is just longer and softer. I will try the X in the summer when the greens are much harder. Snell is with the try if you haven't. Thanks to Dean and his staff.
Sounds like they're gonna be some great golf balls! Cut Golf balls is now in stores too though! Pricing wise, it's the same price as their website. $19.99 for their top line- Cut Blue and Cut Grey. MyGolfSpy, you should do a comparison with all of the guerilla golf ball companies...Snell, Cut Golf, and Vice.
I LOVED the original mtb! it fit my game to a tee. It had everything i was looking for from a lower launch with my driver, which gave it the sneaky long kinda ball. spun great for me off my wedges and chipping around the green. I am a 4 hc golfer and 3 outta the 4 golfers in my group have made the transition to snell golf. I played the mtb black didnt see a difference in distance with driver or irons. What i did see was my short chips not checking up quite as quick. which is what Dean was shooting for with the Blacks. Reds flew too high with my ball flight. spin was back where i wanted, but i ballooned my driver too often. I am looking forward to trying the X I would like to see the lower flight return to the original mtb flight and I want the spin back as well. All this with a smaller faster core..... WOW! Cant wait!!
Began playing the MTB Black in August. Have always played Titleist, but stopped when price got too high. Love the MTB Black and will order the MTB-X when available.
Very informative video. I had a chance to play the Red last year for a couple rounds and honestly not a big fan. I found it too firm and felt like I really couldn't get the max performance out of it. I'd like to try the MTB Black to see how it compares. I'm excited to see what results you call come up with for the Ball Test you have hinted at in the past. I have been playing around with the Vice Tour Soft and like the feel. Keep on testing and keeping we consumers in mind.
Thanks for this info. Dean is an Honest no-nonsense guy and gives it to you straight. Love him. Just ordered me some BLACK....Can’t wait to get these on the course.
As for DTC (direct-to-consumer) balls, so far I have tried Cut Blue and Grey, Vice Pro Soft. As compared to Callaway Chome Soft, Srixon Q Star and Wilson Duo the DTC balls were slightly shorter and definitely less durable. Spin on driver and irons was pretty much equal with all the above. However, none of the former come close to Pro V1 or Taylormade TP5 (new edition). From my extensive research, Snell promises to be the one that can absolutely compete with the top tour balls in all facets of performance. Can't wait to try them!
Played the original MTB and it was a great performer. I swapped away from the Pro V1 due to not being able to keep the ball from spinning back at least 30 feet. I have played all of the Callaway top performing balls from the Tour, Tour i, through the Chrome Soft X. I like the performance of the MTB and the price point. I will be testing between the MTB-Black and the MTB-X to see which one suits my game best.
Great test! I’m a fan off the Snell golf balls and can’t wait to test the different models available now. I hope you don’t mind to give someone in Europe a chance to test them as well. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Awesome business model, eliminating all the “overhead” costs These will be my go to balls going forward! Bought the sample test pack late last year but have yet to play/test them Sounds like the Black will be my go too. Would like to see a test of the black Against the MTBX
Another great video. Curious to compare Snell vs Vice. Thoughts? I may be a bit shallow in my thoughts but while I do enjoy the direct to consumer approach, I tend to favor Vice over Snell do to the overall curb appeal. The information I've gained through your site and others is that Vice performs very well against Pro V1s, so I would imagine Snell and Vice could be comparable as well.
I’ve played the MTB Red, but after this video I want to try the Black to compare to see if I want to go to the X. Great video and nice seeing Dean Snell.
Great video, love Dean Snell. Definitely gonna have to try the new MTB-X. I dont mind a little firmer than pro v and the sound makes no real difference to me.
I was golfing at Hilton Head, using Pro V1. Lost a ball but found a Snell MTB X and it felt great. I ended up buying a box and I love them. I even bought a box of Yellow.
Snell puts out quality products. Have played with the MTB Red for some time and was devastated to see the MTB X replacement. After this video, I'm definitely excited to try out the X.
Thanks for the data. You are always my first source of information. If you have some spare time at the office would love to see a MTB Black VS MTB-X numbers.
Love the mtb black. The reds were everything he said high spin and short off the driver. Now in yellow is a win win but can't wait to try the x out in yellow as my eyes aren't the greatest anymore....
Good review and info as usual. I will try some MTB-X this year. I like to get fitted for a ball and am interested how Snell shows me how. Keep up the good work!
This was a very interesting comparison, it does prove that you should be fitted for a golf ball. Many of us golfers are probably playing the wrong ball. The Snell could possibly work for most golfers and the price I'd much cheaper because all of us lose balls so why not have one that works and pay a cheaper price.
just saw a video that picked the mtb-x as the number one ball, and just ordered 2 dozen. i can't wait to get these especially after learning more about dean snell, the designer guru.
Not much argument here. The Snell ball is identical, for all intents and purposes, to the ProV1-1xs. Why pay more? I'm changing to Snell, or my name isn't Tigger Woods!!
I have never been a fan of spending more money on something that I could get for less assuming the products were similar - wild concept, right? For the last year I have heard about the Snell ball but never tried one. I would love to test ride and become a Snell-guy.
Here's my review on Snell vs Pro-V1 coming from a Canadian, a former PGA Tour caddie and scratch golfer...I love Snell MTB and I love ProV-1's, But if the difference really is price point then there is no difference. Online a dozen Snells are $45 (CDN) + $2.25 tax + $10 shipping = $57.25 but I can walk into a Golf store and a dozen ProV1's are $55 + 2.75 = $57.75, so there is no difference between them. I wish Snell was just a bit cheaper so there would be no question which I would play.
Will you consider doing double blind testing in the future? In this case, the test subject might subconsciously swing differently knowing what ball he is hitting. Thanks!
You might need ear plugs to hit a mtbx with a calloway epic flash . I played the red and had disappointing drives, and some flyers with the irons, the red was not the ball for me. Interesting video.
SUBSCRIBE & COMMENT TO WIN! - (1) Dozen 2019 Snell MTB-X Golf Balls
I just ordered some Snells. Can't wait to try 'em out once we thaw out here in Colorado!
Never used snell before would like to give them a go!
I play the MTB Black Snell balls and love them. Great performance and feel. I would love to try the new X ball to see the results.
Excited to try MTB X and Black
What snell ball is comparable to the prov1x?
Since the Red is discontinued would rather see MTB-X, MTB BLACK, PRO V1 graph
I appreciate your video. You can tell Dean just wants to make the best ball possible without gouging the consumer. Love what these guys are doing. Direct to market is definitely a cool model and i like that they have the fitting option.
Great vid! Always impressed with how genuine Dean seems. No marketing bs he just makes golf balls as best as he can.

Love the review, especially with the varying swing speeds. Great to hear the philosophy of the company straight from “the man” himself.

i really love the unbiased approach to testing with Snell onsite
Thanks for this info. Dean is an Honest no-nonsense guy and gives it to you straight. Love him. Just ordered me some BLACK....Can’t wait to get these on the course.
I've used the MTB-Red and Black and felt the Red suited my swing better. Based off the testing I just saw, the new MTB-X will work perfectly for me!

I shall be trying the MTB-X as I am already using MTB-Black. Love your channel.
Great comparison using 3 different swing speeds and 3 different clubs. Thanks!
Great test! I’m a fan off the Snell golf balls and can’t wait to test the different models available now. I hope you don’t mind to give someone in Europe a chance to test them as well. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

very interested to see the 7i spin so low. loved the og mtb and mtb black. didn’t care for the red. i look forward to trying the x.
Been playing Snell golf balls for over a year now I found the MTB red was best for me but I will try the new MTB X. keep up the good work.
Great stuff Dean and MGS. Loved the MTB Black and the MTB X sounds like it is near identical to the Titleist AVX
Great video, love Dean Snell. Definitely gonna have to try the new MTB-X. I dont mind a little firmer than pro v and the sound makes no real difference to me.
I play yellow balls in the winter. Nice to see I'll be able to play my favorite ball all year round now.
I love the reviews. I played the original MTB and have been trying out the red and black. I definitely want to try the mtb-x
Got a mix box of red and black to try once the weather breaks breaks here in the Midwest. I’m thinking I’ll be getting these to try as well!
I've been gaming Snell balls for a little over 3 years. Love them. My second choice would be Brigdestone.👍🏌⛳🇺🇸😀
Great work boys as usual. Used MTB Red last year....more for practice rounds. I am a Pro-V1 player....will definitely
have a look a the MTB-X
I should really try these. Been using the Kirkland three piece, but a little too much spin around the greens.
Excited to try these out. I've been playing their balls ever since the first Mygolfspy test.
I play MTB Black - LOVE IT!!!
Love the Snell Balls. I've played both the red and the black and am partial to the red. Hoping the new ball takes the place of the red for me.
Love the original MTB. Tried black and red, couldn’t really tell difference with my high handicap.
Very, very interesting test… I will definitely have to give these Snell balls a try!
This was a very interesting comparison, it does prove that you should be fitted for a golf ball. Many of us golfers are probably playing the wrong ball. The Snell could possibly work for most golfers and the price I'd much cheaper because all of us lose balls so why not have one that works and pay a cheaper price.
I ordered a dozen Cut Blue, and Vice Pro for this season. Would be curious to add Snell into the max. MTB black or X should do the trick.
Great video! Thank you for the efforts you put into club, ball and accessories testing.
just saw a video that picked the mtb-x as the number one ball, and just ordered 2 dozen. i can't wait to get these especially after learning more about dean snell, the designer guru.
Great video! Never hit a Snell ball before, but will definitely be trying some out this season.
Gaming MTB RED atm, and I agree with some of the feedback. Keen to get on MTB-X, when they're available in Australia. Keep up the great work, Dean.
Currently playing the black love these balls. snell rocks I made the switch from the pro v just over a year ago and will continue to use snell
Not much argument here. The Snell ball is identical, for all intents and purposes, to the ProV1-1xs. Why pay more? I'm changing to Snell, or my name isn't Tigger Woods!!
The X definitely looks like the best mixture of the two balls, definitely can't wait to order them!
Would love to give those MTB-X a try. I play Hogan PTx so the direct-to-consumer deal makes total sense!
This guy is the King of Golf ball design and now is the best
Excited to see how the new balls perform on the course.
Really stacks up. If the pro v spine a little too much this looks like a great alternative.
I will definitely try these. Only problem I have is I prefer a soft feeling ball. That is why I like the Srixon Z star and the Prov1
I have never been a fan of spending more money on something that I could get for less assuming the products were similar - wild concept, right? For the last year I have heard about the Snell ball but never tried one. I would love to test ride and become a Snell-guy.
have loved the MTB Black ever since they came out, will have to try the X's this year
tried a few different direct to consumer and loved the mtb...looking forward to trying the mtb x!!
Great test.will definitely try your recommendation. Golf says are truly golf friends!!!!
He's such a genuine guy. Glad for his ongoing success
great ball for any price! Would like to see a softer like 70 compression MTB-Black. Maybe the new X is.
Heard lots of good things about Snell balls ... giving these a go this summer
Can't wait to give this ball a shot! Gonna buy some MTB-X and Blacks to try them out.
Just ordered 2 dozen. Details soon as I have been hitting prov1. Out here in Idaho.
Love the Snell MTB-RED Balls, plus we are developing custom gloves for snell as well.
Keep it going Dean!!! Can you make thicker alignment line please?
I use the MTB Black and love them. Would love to try the new MTB X!
I really like the feel of a firmer ball off of my putter, it works for me. So I will give the MTB X a shot.
