      :-) Thanks! While building I was anxiously anticipating the first sound test. Was a pleasant surprise to hear that it was neither super quiet nor totally off.

    It''s evident a lot of love and care went into making this violin, thank you for sharing!

    I like the concept of this, but worry about how the string tension will affect the instrument over a long period of time. I suspect it would warp relatively quickly due to the nature of 3D printed plastic. I imagine 3D printing would work really well for woodwinds or brass instruments though, as things like resin recorders can sound quite nice if designed properly.

    Definitely. think 3d printed violins will be a thing in the future. The Chinese sell "super cheap" violins on ebay for $50 which includes the violin, strings, bow, case and a piece of rosin. So on price the 3d printed violin cannot compete. But actually the place for a 3d printed violin will be secure if the quality is there. Your demo is very good.

    Have you seen the Hovalin? It uses an 8mm carbon fiber rod to strengthen the neck and body.

    That's a very brave project, and it looks great (unfortunately I don't have the "ear" to judge the sound). Well done! Is the material ABS or something else? And what glue did you use? The glue strength is probably what would worry me the most.

    • @Simsso
      @Simsso  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Ido! I'm really happy to hear from you - it's been a while since we last chatted. The material is PLA. Glue-wise nothing special, it's superglue. The violin's body is reinforced by the structural elements "sound post" and "bassbar". The bassbar is a bar that is parallel to the strings and right behind the front plate. The sound post connects front and back plate to each other. You can see the two components here: photos.app.goo.gl/RxqC983xsNyd6kju5
      Have a great day! :-)

      @@Simsso Yes, we need to catch up :-) I didn't think PLA and Superglue could stand such stresses, maybe because I only used them for smaller objects with smaller cross-sections, and with no special supports. That's good to know.

    I can't believe in this sound :|. Maybe all of the 3d printed musical instruments sound like a toy, but this one seems better than the normal ( around 300$) violin on the internet.
    I will make this.

      Hi do you know any sites I can buy 3d models that I could rightfully own so I can print and sell legally I don't want to break any laws. I tried designing I can't do it I suck.

  • @henrykim990

    Did you end up making cello?

    • @Simsso
      @Simsso  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha no, I didn't, it was more meant as a joke. I think a cello is so large, that printing one really wouldn't be feasible.
      My plan is to print a second violin in which I improve all the aspects that are suboptimal about the first one. :-)
