Just call the freakin’ bet. You’ve got a straight. He doesn’t have jackshit. He’s tryna’ buy the pot. The call should be automatic. What are you worried about? You’re so convinced he probably has a higher straight. He ain’t got nothin’……….
Maybe this is why I could never play poker for a living. I don’t let people get away with squat. I call ‘em down on the river very frequently unless my holdings are absolute garbage. You’re gonna buy a lot fewer pots with me around.
Hold’em is such a sick game anyway. With the rise in popularity of the WSOP and televised poker back in the early 2000’s, I was so sorry to see it surpass seven card stud in popularity, and basically make seven stud (which was the primary game being spread almost everywhere in Nevada back in the 80s, when I played a lot) nearly extinct. For one thing, 7-stud was so much more FUN to play than Hold’em. Hands down, no contest. But Hold’em was the “pro’s game”, the poker game that included a larger skill factor than stud, and that’s why it beat out stud as the game that took over even in the low-level primary games that casinos were spreading. How sad. It’s a boring-ass piece of shit game all the way IMAO, compared to almost every other form of poker, including stud, lowball, and especially 7-stud High-Low 8 or better, and also, Omaha High-Low 8 or better (which is the only community board poker game that I actually enjoy and find intriguing). Shit, I even like 5-card draw poker better than Hold’em (5-card draw used to be the primary game when I played in California back in the 80’s and 90’s, when the players dealt the game, and the deal passed from one player to the next, and the casino collected a $1 chip from every player for time every half an hour.)
Anyway, all the hullabaloo about Texas Hold ‘Em (it’s even got a stupid, lousy-sounding moniker, too) and the perception-particularly amongst younger generations (who don’t know any better, and who have never played anything else, because Hold’Em is the only game being pushed these days) that’s it’s the one and only poker game. What a crock of total nonsense-and all those youngsters don’t even know it. I find it utterly sad that the very worst poker game in terms of the enjoyment factor that I get out of playing it is the one that skyrocketed into the stratosphere in terms of popularity.
So sorry to see the game of casino poker go to hell in a handbasket and devolve until all the fun went out of it. To me, the only part of Texas Hold’Em poker that has any intrigue to it is the no limit aspect of the betting, but the card game itself is an utter bore to me otherwise.
Just one man’s opinion, coming from someone who’s seen generations of the game morph into what is now “casino poker”……….
And to anyone who wants to remind me that yes, there are still a few places like big cardrooms (and even a few little ones) in California and elsewhere that still spread the occasional stud or Omaha game, etc.,
    Yeah, I know.
The conversation here has to do with the rule, and not so much the occasional exceptions. The general rule is that Hold’Em is the primary game almost everywhere you go these days, and in many places, it’s the only game being spread. Its exposure since the televised WSOP started soaring in popularity over 20 years ago changed the public perception of poker and the dynamics of casino poker worldwide.
A few guys like me who are now old timers say : Not for the better.
But, I’m not trying to make my living playing the game. That ship sailed decades ago.……….

      Generally good advice.
The only thing I've done with some success before is to offer to show if they fold. For some people they talk themselves into a call because they can't stand knowing if they've been beat or not, and they don't want to go home wondering/ never knowing.
Offering to show gives them a way out, they can fold and still find out if they were good or not.
I have got a couple of lay downs of hands that were beating me with that. Not for massive amounts, but couple of hundred dollars in one case.

If you reverse Hellmuth and Tilly here and it's the flush draw + backdoor straight that's come along, they've bricked on the river and your pair is good. So he beats a lot of missed flush draws and he beats all the non-A 2 bigs that have bricked.

The decision Phil faces on the turn is so nasty when you're multiway - depending on the compositional effects of both your opponents' hands, you can be drawing stone dead and not even realize it. When the money starts going in, even when you hit your hand, how confident are you that you have the best of it? Even if you get reverse implied odded infrequently, it can be enough to turn a +EV call into a negative one.
I'm not suggesting the fold was necessarily correct - I can't really say, as I lack the expertise. But, it is a difficult strategic spot.

And table talk? It’s all in the art. When in doubt stay silent isn’t a bad policy, buuut, if you can relax and just enjoy yourself, be natural and that’s the best you can do. Personally I wouldn’t try to misrepresent my hand, but I might playfully be like, “hmm well let me check and see what I have again.” And then smile and ask “how much to show one of my cards?”

No gamble no future..... 2nd nut flush draw and gut shot folds on turn with 4:1 odds and speech play on river from 3rd nuts. Producer needs to be fired

She is not a good player. That much time to overthink everything. K.I.S.S. method should apply. His betting pattern was clearly busted flush draw or maybe a set. Him was a Straight makes NO sense for that betting line.

I have never respected Tilly as a player and I see this as a donkey unintentional slowroll call....you are calling 100% of the time...shut up and snap call...if he miracled you so be it..the fact she may have been close to folding shows her own donkness

Phil is trash...he is such a damn knit. He places as if he is broke in real life and can't afford to play these stakes. He is most definitely not a "genius". These new players crush him and for all those wins he hasn't won the most money either...🤷🏾

When I know I’m beat in a bad bluff, I definitely tilt out loud, realize they could still make a mistake, and then clam up, hoping my out loud tilt mistake is taken for overacting.

Persson's Casinos print money. He is not aware he is the classic fish/whale. He thinks he is a great poker player. But he's good for the game. $$$ KAching$$$
