I don't usually write YT comments, but I just wanted to let you know I really appreciate all the effort you put into making these videos! Keep up the great work!
You don't realize how long I've been searching for the move sets to the weapons in the game. Every video was like "How to survive in combat" or "Tips and tricks to combat" and I'm like for the love of god I just want to know how the ACTUAL combat works, because obviously I've used different moves in combat, and generally know how to do them, (such as finishers). You really are the best for doing this, and also for being so thorough with your vids. Thanks mate.
You're welcome :) I, too, wonder why almost nobody else has done weapon or moveset guides for this game (the only other videos I know of are RekiWylls's videos th-cam.com/video/6A06eveYE7I/w-d-xo.html). Everything else is either (like you said) general combat tips/tricks/guides or combo montages.
Thanks for this entire video series on the movesets, because the enemies are so aggressive I was never able to even experiment on my own and see the finishers of most weapons .
The sword has a third rare counter I discovered, and I think it triggers when an enemy zips to the side and farther from you, the animation is of Noctis slashing the blade quickly downwards, there's even particule effects as it's actually hitting the ground. It has about the same strength as the second counter and break potential.
i've never experimented with the "Flayer" i just gave it to Ignis and had his way with it. i always use the one you said "the jack of all trades" weapon (sword) , it isn't super strong but it has no weaknesses whatsoever, and it has the fastest recovery in the game, it isn't as nimble and quick as the daggers, but it always makes up on its aerial capabilities.. i have enjoyed each and every videos that you have posted, especially in this game. tons of help. We will have tweaks and patches in this game later on, episodes for the 3 comrades, i hope you find the time on covering their movesets as well. -> will be looking forward to it. Thanks a bunch man!
Good stuff, my dude. One thing though - the text can be hard to read on smaller screens (phone, laptop, tablet), especially against bright background, like the sky). Maybe consider giving it a thicker outline, or changing the font to a thicker one.
Starting music sounds like someone was about to do something but the ffxv developers wanted them to do a slower version of the first title screen but actually did it faste4 because reason
Awesome video, I just wanted to add for your reference, in terms of the difference in attack between flayer and the other spears is that (and this is in the weapons menu description) "it finishes off a flurry of attacks with a devastating coup-de-gras." To my knowledge there is one other weapon in the game with this unique property, and that would be the sword you obtain at the end of episode Gladio, the Genji Blade.
I remember using a phase counter with magic. It happened when I did the usual parry with a Red Giant and Noctis hit it with a fireball. The strange thing is, everytime I dodged the giant's attack and immediately casted thunder notics would shoot fire instead and it wouldn't use up a spell either. I could also do it while it was on cooldown as well. Sadly however, I think it was a glitch or they patched it out since I can't get noctis to do it again.
yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I am still trying to do it again as a way of proving that I didn't dream it up! Because I'm starting to doubt if it actually happened.
nice, could u do a slow mo when in armiger? its basically too fast too see what arms is cycling through. it would be nice to appreciate the moves in slow mo
Hey Ase, do you have the official guide? there explais how to break appendage. You could do a video talkying about it, or showing which attacks can break/multiplie de breakege. Just an ideia I had now. And about the video... amazing as always. I did not know well all counters after phase! You always inspire me to keep playing at Lv 1. Soon I will go to the Secret Dungeons and I think it will be extremelly hard at lv 1 xD
Unfortunately, I don't have it. I have considered getting it, but i'm still not sure if it's gonna be just a waste of money... You're gonna have a tough time with lvl1 menace dungeons. I haven't tried it, but they already took ages with a fully leveled party.
Asetoni FFXV Thr guide is pretty good. After some time you dont need to use it, but I like to look the weapons. For example... that spear that does more damage in the air... how much? The book says is 50% more damage (but yeah, you can look that on the internet). Also, the movesets from the weapons and the explanations about the royal arms in the book looks so cheap and not detailed after watching your videos lol
There is one thing I noticed before I had to stop playing recently. I noticed that after ... oh wait, spoilers... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... We're good? Okay then! I noticed that in Chapter 14, after you enter Insomnia and Noctis wears the new Robes... it might be just me, but it looks like Noctis regular Sword moveset is different, or at least differently animated. He seems to be a little more "grounded" if that makes sense... Dunno how to discribe. It is less wild swinging, and more focused slashes. It seems it felt that way... other that, or it was just because he looked older and thus it feels different just because of that :P Would be nice to have confirmation tough!
Just tried it. It really does seem like his basic combo is less... "jumpy". There doesn't seem to be any practical difference in speed or reach, but there is a subtle difference in the animation. Nice catch!
I noticed too and can confirm that it does look a bit different. It looked more like fencing and less wild swinging. I think only the animation was different. But the aoe of the attack might be smaller as there were a few instances where I was attacking but missed those attacks.
Need help pulling off the "Sword side-direction attack -> Aerial" combo, so all I need to do is push the d stick to the direction same as the one I pulled off the attack, then Noct will jump ? Can't get it right.
is there any stuff you can do on the armiger regarding combos? Edit: did you know that if you do a backflip with the polearm and stop attacking and then do forward attack, it does a massive damage finisher
Probably. I haven't tested it because filling up the Armiger bar between each test is a pain. And it's such a huge clusterfuck of swords and particle effects that it's hard to see what's going on. It's certainly something I'd like to look into though.
The entire video would boil down into "Just... use whatever" and the general reaction would be "Not helpful". Control schemes always come down to preference because unless some of them are absolutely horrible, they have no effect whatsoever on the gameplay. It's completely up to preference what you prefer. The general consensus seems to be that scheme A is worse than B or C and I can definitely see why, yet I always use scheme A because I used it so much that I'm comfortable with it. After getting used to any of them, it no longer matters at all.
What do you know about using magic? I know that at the core, they're just odd AoE attacks, but there's a certain "combo" that I've seen done with them where Noct will throw the grenade behind him in a "cool guys don't look at explosions" way, or something to that effect. I've seen it in videos, I've even done it myself, but I have no idea how it's done or can't find anyone else who knows what I'm talking about.
Magic is an instant-win button. But seriously tho, he does that animation if you aim the spell so close that it would hit him, so he throws is and jumps out of the way. Previously, you couldn't aim magic that close, but it was added with the day1 patch.
See you in 2031. But seriously though, I have some ideas for new videos on FFXV's combat. I have already begun work on one of them, but I can't promise anything because ultimately this is a hobby for me and real life can mess up my schedules pretty badly. Also, I'm hopeful that the upcoming DLCs will have content worth talking about.
Attacks coming out as a response to stuff happening in a fight is the lamest way of doing combat. There is no freedom, no experimentation. Imagine the ridiculous amount of combos and different playstyles between players if almost all the attacks in the game could be manually triggered. The users control the program, or the program controls the user? With FFXV it's definitely the last.
What? With the exception of most combo starters (of which phase-counters are a part of) and position-based aerial attacks, all attacks in this game can be triggered manually. The thing that limits combo potential and playstyles in this game is the abysmal enemy design.
I don't usually write YT comments, but I just wanted to let you know I really appreciate all the effort you put into making these videos! Keep up the great work!
Thank you! :)
Same...thanks broski

I'm currently in the same predicament. Thanks for making these videos
People: "FFXV combat isn't deep..."
This channel: "Thats where your wrong kiddo"

Subbed.
Im late to be playing this game in 2019 but these guides are awesome.
Man I've 100% this game back in the day, and I still learned so much from these. Good info
i've never experimented with the "Flayer" i just gave it to Ignis and had his way with it. i always use the one you said "the jack of all trades" weapon (sword) , it isn't super strong but it has no weaknesses whatsoever, and it has the fastest recovery in the game, it isn't as nimble and quick as the daggers, but it always makes up on its aerial capabilities.. i have enjoyed each and every videos that you have posted, especially in this game. tons of help. with the daggers, you can link strike to them repeatedly like the katana of the warrior. It feels like a fast link strike to spam for me.

Nice video man, great to see the follow up move-set on video! Keep up the awesome work!

That is not a phase counter, it's a unique parry animations for Red Giants.
yeah but I was doing it without parrying his attacks.
Weird. Must have been a bug then.
yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I am still trying to do it again as a way of proving that I didn't dream it up! Because I'm starting to doubt if it actually happened.

Just figured it out, after you let go immediatley press the direction again but with the attack button, works for me
@@whyyoumad9421 press the direction with attack button?

I can't seem to dodge roll no matter what, plz help.
Question: so there are multiple weapons that can do aerial dives when above an enemy. Which ones has the best dive.
They're pretty much the same afaik... You'll do the most damage by using the weapon the enemy is weak to.
Hi, would it be possible for you to make a video showing the different control schemes in the game?
The entire video would boil down into "Just... use whatever" and the general reaction would be "Not helpful".

Well, no problem. I appreciate your content and I'm thankful of your answer.

Benci Caballero it's from using magic at close range
