Damn. Alot of ff guides out there, but sitting through alot of them i find you're going through everything more thoroughly and well explained than anyone else. Kudos fellow earthling!
There's a Low level, no license challenge in FF XII which was KRAZY! You can do a no level, no ascension challenge. I dare you to try that, pretty sure that would be hardcore mode.
@@blue-phoenix115 how annoying. That's not hard just time consuming. As the game is now there's never a place where you have to step back and do other things
Never ceased to be amazed by the quality of content you put out. Great jow with another video. I am also continually amazed at the game and how it always has new mechanics to explore. 2:26 You mention shields, but you forgot one very important feature. "blinking" or perfect blocking with a shield will cancel the enemy's attack. Using the shield or ring to blink is perfect for enemies like iron giants who normally don't stagger often and leave little room for being open. I highly suggest trying it out and including it in your video
Thanks! I actually didn't forget about cancelling the enemies' attacks by blocking. At 2:40 I talk about it briefly. The thing is tho, it actually doesn't require timing or blinking. It's purely based on which attack the enemy uses. Some attacks always cause the enemy to stagger and get interrupted and others will never cause this, no matter how perfectly you time your block. Iron Giants are the only exception to this. They are the only enemy type in the entire game where blinking perfectly with a shield can stagger them. However, this was such a specific case that I chose to leave it out.
I swear even hundreds of hrs into this game, i watch ur vids n i still find out surprises. I had no idea free warping through enemies dmgs them omg, i just never noticed. Wow...
Another really minor addition on the topic of the defensive mechanics is when you equip and select any royal arm, SoW will materialize and defend you against any projectile while you hold the dodge button without you being stuck in the phasing animation. Not sure if it costs any mp though
Serj Angelo Ah I thought of that but forgot to add it. I did briefly talk about it in my first RA moveset video, but I should have said that at the start. It doesn't cost MP.
Thanks for your video! Now I know that why I always die in pinch so easily, because I have never known these skills, since I am playing this game in Dynasty Warriors manner!
I think a big part of the misunderstanding most people have about the combat in this game is the phase animation. Phasing is basically guarding. Like, people call it "Hold circle to win" but really, if I hold guard in Dark Souls, Nioh, Ninja Gaiden, or any game with a guard, is that "Holding guard to win?"
Pretty much. Although, it also has to do with balancing problems. Guarding in Dark Souls costs stamina, in Nioh it costs Ki and in FFXV it costs MP. The problem is that once you level up even a little bit, your max MP will skyrocket while phasing costs remain the same (or get even cheaper if you buy some ascension nodes). You can also increase your maximum Ki or Stamina of course, but the game also makes stronger enemies consume those resources more. FFXV's is a good system in concept, it just lacks balancing.
i just got the game and this was so hopeful, i kept getting frustrated cus i thought i was just missing the parry timing despite pressing when the prompt came up. thank you!
Really good job on this guide. Especially for the idle warp. it may be the best attack in the game since is basically a way to dodge and attack at the same time and still..i've never seen someone use it or mention it. I swear to god when people criticize this game its like they dont even try to play it the way it was meant to be played.
Helo person from 2 years ago. You're probably right. I just got the game cuz it was on sale and I was not having fun with the combat at all but I knew it's because I wasn't playing the way it was meant to be played. I looked up a couple videos and boom, it's starting to click and become much more enjoyable and I can appreciate the uniqueness of the system and then Rhythm.
Impervious is super fun... When PC version lands it's the first skill i'm getting ASAP. Without impervious Noctis just get's up way to slowly. Does blink also work when u are doing the backstep with greatsword to use tempast? I got caught alot in this small backstep.
The timing is pretty tight, but by no means frame perfect. To me, it feels earlier than you might expect. Also make sure that you have the node unlocked and that the fall is high enough to deal damage. And unequip Black Hood if you have it, as that accessory disables Blink.
You roll or warp. When it comes to Ronin's combo, it actually is phaseable. Well, it's supposed to be. It's one of a couple attacks in the game that is glitched where Noctis sometimes cannot phase it. You are supposed to be able to phase it just fine but the pacing of the swings can very often frame trap you on the recovery frame of phasing.
I can't seem to manually roll no matter what I do, have to resort to warp escaping to dodge move. Please help, I just stand still every time I tap or hold phase button, could never get Noctis to dodge roll like you did in the vid.
Thanks for replying. Yes, I can phase and blink. Noct will phase or blink through attacks but I can't get him to roll. Also I use the type B combat so the phase/dodge roll button is L1. Every time I tap or hold L1, Noct just stands there phasing or blinks if there's an attack.
I got my ass kicked a lot during phasing while fighting one of the kings with the shuriken. Seems i always got hit when she throws her weapon at my back which was odd since i can dodge other enemies attacks when they attack from the back 🤔
The direction an attack comes from is never a factor when it comes to whether you can phase or block them. The only thing that matters is the type of attack the enemy uses. In the Rogue's case, she has several different shuriken throwing attacks. the ones where she throws just small shuriken(s) can always be phased, but in one of her attacks she throws a bigger shuriken that cannot be phased and you have to dodge roll/warp to avoid it.
Asetoni FFXV thanks for the tip. And one more thing, is there a spesific way to know when we won't dodge an attack? Mystic can sometimes hit me during his combos.
I have a question, because it's been a while since I played the demo on Steam (haven't bought the game yet, to this day). In order to parry an attack, you still have to block it, right? Or do you simply wait for the moment where the on-screen prompt changes from square (to block) to circle (to parry) and do that instead? I also noticed it seems like you get a moment of slow motion in order to actually perform the parry. Is this an actual ingame mechanic or did you edit that in the video?
Yeah, you have to actually block the attack by being in the phasing stance (or blinking) and then the counter prompt will show up. If you don't block, you'll just get hit. And yeah, the slow mo is done by the game. I may have edited some clips in the video to make it all clearer, but there is a very noticeable slow motion when the game gives you the counter prompt when you play it.
Phasing and Blink both looks same, what is the different? IMO this all move too overpower and make the game too easy, especially warp strike. People just keep ambush to use it, those move should cost the MP much than that.
I've used A for so long, it's ingrained in my my muscle memory. However, I am currently trying to switch to a custom control scheme that was designed by a guy on reddit.
None of them. I don't believe that control scheme matters, it only depends on what you're used to or comfortable with. If I had to rank them, I'd say C > B > A, because in C both attack and defend are shoulder buttons, which allows for more free camera movement, but that is only useful when playing without lock-on. Ultimately, it just doesn't matter.
This game is so so poorly explained. I completed the game without knowing how combat works really. Not to mention I didn't get alp the royal arms, since they can't even be found unless you do crazy amounts of looking around to find them.
I still think that FFXII has a better combat system. FFXV combat was too imbalanced. Where the only difficulty is high damage from upper level enemies.

correction.. Phase MP cost depends on attire or the Ring of Lucii equipped primarily....

Can you also blink while recovering from a greatsword swing? You know, that annoying step backwards?
So I've been trying to blink before falling from large heights and I've have failed all times. Do you have to tap square at one particular frame?
