Honestly, in terms of story, this is how powerful the ring really is supposed to be. The original titles of Death, Holy, and Void were basically meant to make the wielder a god, literally. Lore wise, at least in VERSUS, you will the ring and you're the Inheritor of the Light, as Ardyn was supposed to be. Power over death, to literally just take the soul of someone in an instant and 'store' it. Literally being able to assume that person and their likeness/memories. Holy, literally the holy light of the crystal, casting a huge Crystal Shield around you, negating all damage (Luna uses it in the OMEN trailer against Noctis, and Regis uses it in Kingsglaive against you know who) and literally a nuke of light pillars as its offensive, pretty much deatomzing any demon on contact. And finally, the grand daddy of them all Void (called X-Zone, Alterna, and all kinds of other silly translations in the final US script). The power over space/time, to travel between worlds (the phasing, teleportation through the black 'void' that Nyx and the rest use) and finally, literally ripping a fabric in space and time, creating a black hole--complete city/army ending effect. Even the land for a radius--gone. In terms of the watered down lore for FFXV's game mechanics for the ring, it at least serves its purpose. But there's your lore for people like us. The price for using the ultimate spell--not shown--was your soul. Plain and simple. And can only be used once, and at the chosen time. It's about Etro, so that's about all I can say. It should be noted that "Holy" actually deals light elemental Damage, so it is weaker against most Daytime Enemys, as they have a resistance to "Light" elemental Attacks! Good video tough, the ring became SO OP after the patch!
Oh crap, I totally forgot to talk about damage types :O Yea, Holy does "Light" damage. Death has it's own damage type. Hard to say whether it's physical or magical, because the only physical-immune enemies in the game die before you can deal damage to them. Still, it's most likely magical damage.
I have pretty mixed feeling about this ring. Putting aside my squeamishness with using the drain side of death, death and holy are interesting spells in an action-rpg. The Ring of the Lucii seems like either an alternative form of spell casting added late in the game or a bunch of dumpster spells they couldn't fit into the elemancy system. I sort of wish they had smaller rings or other magic casting items available from the start, so when we got this ring it would fit as the ultimate of a weapon class we've already learned and mastered. It certainly fits the party system better than the aoe "What the hell, Noct?" elemancy grenades.
Yea, the ring sorta feels... out of place. There's just nothing mechanically similar in the game. I guess it's kinda the point that it feels unique, but Royal Arms manage to feel unique while still working like any other weapons at the end of the day. It even has its own tab in the equipment menu...
Honestly, the magic system in FFXV is ridiculous. Why would Square allow elemancy to harm allies? You are punished for using a core mechanic of combat. If it was to discourage players from abusing it, they already achieved that by capping absorption and limiting spell casts. I just dont get it.
@@Greerthetis1 I know they added some other stuff to the game to make the game more "Real" Like the monsters crossing the road and what not. It's probably something to added on to that. Normal people can't just incinerate a populated area with flare and everybodys fine. But you can equip an accessory that nullifies the damage. granted I think its a waste of an accessory but thats just my opinion.
Thank you for all the info, I managed to not get holy or alterna my first play through because I opted for the Verse 2 with Gladio and Ignis. I love your Videos man I used to think these things were really random especially combos but now I can link swords with the current ring of lucii like doing the back flip when being in a combo than before the animation is over switch to the ring use holy warp out of there it's amazing what you could do
I preferred the mp cost from the demo over the hp cost they have now. I'd probably use them more if I wasn't slowly killing my character with every attack.
MrAgentIncognito Easy to compensate for with regen items (black choker + megaphone on gladdi should do just fine, though you can always do more. With red and blue choker i managed just fine too, it's just that black is the best one)
Alterna works on nearly everything. But there are some things that I found are immune. The very last training battle the Prompto, Iggy, and Gladio seem immune to its affect. I also found that some of the timed quest enemies that are lvl 120 are immune.
The Oily Boily Guy I thought the Ring was banned from timed quests... It actually does work in the Final Trial, but the proc chance is extremely low. There are some story bosses that are unaffected by it. I've heard that at least Titan, Leviathan and Ravus are immune, but there could be others.
Asetoni FFXV The patched that ended the timed quests (so now they are offline) you can use the ring. But your assertion still stands that there is virtually nothing it cant kill.

i-frames, also known as invulnerability frames are a period of time during an animation, where you can't take damage or get staggered. The enemy's attack simply passes through you (so, in other words, they are the frames during which your character is invulnerable :P). Hyper armor refers to a period of time where you can get hit and receive damage, but are not staggered or interrupted by these attacks (unless they kill you).

GunShot No, it still works the same, at least for me. Maybe you just were unlucky. As for distance affecting it, I don't know and testing that would be extremely time consuming and bothersome. However, I have my doubts, considering I've gotten quite a lot of Adamantoise kills from max distance.

Let me guess, you're trying to cast it on Adamantoise? There, Alterna simply has a new "breaking" animation when it fails. Just keep trying, it's pure RNG and the chance to kill Adamantoise with it is quite low.

I found the ring to be a bit of a cheat to be honest. Same with the magitech armour making you pretty much invincible it all just made the game two easy. Thay should have saved items like that for the new game+ or end game content.
I actually like that i finally find a game again that has a couple OP items in it, a lot of em seem to get no real outstanding ones or large setups before you finally become OP. Here you just straight up get one at a decent risk with a badass animation.

townnet To just fuck around with the post game and be a badass, it's not that spammable unless you have easy acces to warp points, or use items. It isn't even amazing against groups as sometimes enemies don't get caught in it, and it doesn't kill every single enemy + it's RNG based. But my answer remains the same, it's just for the sake of fucking around or quickly killing an enemy that you can't be arsed to fight.

ShadowXaiden Angelus is IMMUNE to Alterna. So is another mech called MA-X Patria. Its Level 76-78.

how do you use the ring after you beat the ending
You load your save file and go to a resting point. There you can select "Call Umbra", this allows you to travel back to Lucis before chapter 9.

I killed the adamanshit in 20 mins with the ring of the lucii in lvl 83 (it exploded at 50% health)
this is the easiest way to kill it, but not the shortest

You can equip the "Nixperience Band" item, which prevents you from leveling up when you camp. I simply did a level 1 run for the challenge.

The reason why I don't say "Circle button" or "Triangle button" or "R1" is because the game is on three different platforms and has three default control schemes. The comment section would be flooded with people asking something like "What button do I press on Xbox with control scheme C?" By the time you have the ring in the game, I expect you to know which button attacks, defends and warps. The game even tells you the controls when you get the ring.

What is the point to have this over power magic and make games too easy?
townnet To just fuck around with the post game and be a badass, it's not that spammable unless you have easy acces to warp points, or use items.
It isn't even amazing against groups as sometimes enemies don't get caught in it, and it doesn't kill every single enemy + it's RNG based.
But my answer remains the same, it's just for the sake of fucking around or quickly killing an enemy that you can't be arsed to fight.
