That’s actually a misconception, mostly due to Hollywood. Bragging and enjoying attention is the hallmark of a narcissist. Many serial killers are narcissists, but not all
@@ayameisastarI agree, but for someone to take the lives of others takes a certain level of selfishness and lack of basic empathy. Most, if not nearly all, serial killers are deeply insecure (from my associates in psychology “expertise” lol) and the struggle between their grandiose sense of self and their shame in feeling inadequate compared to how they believe they should be perceived leads to them seeking out a sense of control where they can to compensate their deep shame. Just my personal thoughts.
Oh good. I just saw your comment from a year ago and went looking through the comments you made recently hoping to find out that you were still doing well. 🫶🏻
Mikey tells these horrific story's with respect, facts, knowledge, compassion and sprinkles in bits of humor to take the edge off a tad. (The life insurance one is golden!) Then in a chipper voice: Now back over to you Chuck in the news room!😐 Thank you for what you do Mike, because we love ya!
15:24 anyone else notice in the interrogation when he was asked if could think of any good reason for someone to do this? he slowly repeated the question and then at the exact same time as he said, "no", he nodded up and down. his body language exposed his true thoughts, as it typically does, especially with something so significant as a murder.
I love how Mike innocently tells us that the crime committed in this current video is 'unthinkabke', even though he knows we watch all of his videos every week and can pretty much think what that 'unthinkable' act probably is.
To murder is so wrong…no matter the motive…no matter what they MAY have done…but to murder a 10 year old boy…is even more sickening. RIP Jeff, Jason and poor little Jessè. 💔💔💔💔🌹🌹🌹😢😢😢
Hey Mike! The hair cut looks great! Thank you for providing another video to watch/listen to while I work. You are a great story teller with your witty and humorous nature.
As gruesome as your stories are, I anticipate every ending when you say, "I love ya." It undercuts the sadness and horror with hope and kindness. So thank you for that!

He was either coaxed into it or he's the most book-correct example of a psychopath we have documented in modern history. There's also... a somewhat popular belief that he's covering for someone but with no proof, it remains speculation.

It’s very weird to hear Mike talk about my state!! We rarely come up. For context of how safe rural Maine is considered, I’ve live in my house for 25 years and have never locked my door. I haven’t seen the key to the house in over a decade. Hopefully, it’s still in my junk drawer.
I grew up in town [Bangor] so I lock my car etc. Yes I leave my car running when I stop into the store for my breakfast sandwich. My best friend has lived out here all her life. They don't lock the door. The again the pit greets you.
“Things like this never happen in small towns like this”…yet That Chapter wouldn’t exist without things like this happening in small towns like this🤷♀️
Everyone in an interrogation is the center of attention. The entire world is revolving around them in that moment. Dont be silly. Acting like you can judge someone when their in this situation is naive at best. The detectives are making everything in their whole world about them in that moment
@lisacanavan5665 Thank you so much! I heard that and wondered what the heck he was saying. Figured it was some young person slang. Turned out to be some Irish man lang.
Me and my partner (who is not at all into true crime) are in a long distance and every time we are together she asks me to put on mike by saying 'are you not going to listen to hey you its Mike' :) I consider that a win!
My husband was never into true crime, then I came along and he still isn’t but he loves me and will watch That Chapter on Tuesdays and Fridays with me and bought us matching That Chapter shirts that Mike put out.
I’m in my first long distance relationship of my life. It’s been about two and half years and oddly enough, it’s probably the best relationship so far, no pun intended.
Is saying "my partner" a thing now because somebody claims to be offended by being referred to as someone's husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, my man/my woman or something. No offense intended, I'm genuinely curious cuz I'm old now and I get confused trying to keep up with all the games that get played with language these days... Used to be pretty easy back when "partner" was pretty much reserved for occasional use like if your uncle, the 40+ never married "confirmed bachelor" finally gotten into a relationship with a "significant other" that nobody talks about in front of grandpa...
I'm sure the detectives antennae immediately perked up, early in the interrogation, when he answered the question of what kind of person would do this, with, " Someone with no love for things that grow". A very odd answer under the circumstances, and way to refer to the taking of human life. I've never heard the act of murder, referenced this way.
Watching this guy try to talk with emotion at certain parts was very theatrical. He definitely takes what he’s seen in movies or what he thinks people who feel those emotions would be like and tries to act them out. So chilling to watch.
I have a really hard time believing that some big notorious drug dealer would be living way up in the middle of nowhere in a Maine town with 250 people.
I mean they absolutely could (look up California's MJ dealers up in the mountains struggling once it became legal). But the type of person I've seen like that, you wouldn't see the house from the road & you wouldn't just drive up to the house without having eyes on you.
I live in Maine and didn't even know about this! Talking about Maine murders, I really wish you would do a deep dive into baby ayla Reynolds. I feel so bad for this family and especially the poor mom. I feel like everyone forgot about this and would love TH-cam to bring this case back to life for the family. Just a thought. Keep doing awesome Mike!❤
Are you not originally from here? I think it made National News as he was on the lam for awhile. We all know Justin Killed Ayla. There is alot of evidence. There is not apparently enough to confidently take him to trial beyond a reasonable doubt. His sister was there plus at min a 3rd person. Very easy to point at them.
Not saying anything untoward went on, but Thane is exactly the kind of young person predators can sniff out a mile away. I find it strange and creepy that he was taken in on TWO occasions by much older men under the guise of ‘helping’ him.

i love u ive been following this channel for years and I have to say the intro sounds like an intro for a cooking vlog lmao I can never think of anything else when hearing it
One thing that troubles me as I get older is how hard and how much our young people, I think especially men, struggle to find their place or niche in the world today. Alot never find it. I guess as more of the mysteries of the world are solved and all of the places explored, you might never find your calling from I'm guessing, simple lack of opportunity or need. Im not sure. We're seeing more and more people idle for a multitude of reasons. I dont know how to fix that.
IMO, I’ve heard inmates say they’d rather be dead, than having to live the rest of their lives in solitary confinement. Some people think, this is torture, but I look at it like the misery they will have to endure, will give the victim/victims much more justice. This consequence seems more fitting than knowing, this will eventually end. Instead they will never know how many years they will be required to live before this ends.
I just discovered you and have kind of been binging, as you do. I could put this on any video really, but, as an American, I love how you call so many things "turd". I am sure it has been said before, but it is very fun :)
There seem to be two classes of white-boy names in the US: there’s Skyler, Tyler, Tanner, Tucker, Cooper, Gunnar and Brett. And then there’s Rush, Chadwick, Aldridge, Chase, McKendrick, Spencer and Booth. And Thayne.
I skimmed down through the comments and am surprised not to see at least one person comment on the sociopathic quality of that father-in-law of one of the victims. It was scary how convincing his lying was during his interview with the media. He's one sick guy too.
As a Mainer (Im about 1.5 hours away in an even smaller town of less than 100 people) this is always a crazy story to see people cover just because its such small region
I live near St. Augustine, Florida. That US-1 they lived on is the same US-1 in St Augustine. It starts in Key West and runs the entire East coast of the US all the way up to Maine. I've always wanted to ride my bike the entire length of US-1 ... motorcycle, that is, not bicycle. I've been to the origin in Key West and got my very own Mile 0 sticker.

What a sad story. I know a young man who ended up killing his mom over money and the fact she wanted him to move to his own place. He was about 28 and had been on his own at different times but had gotten addicted to drugs. Seemingly nice young men who end up killing is so strange. 😒

Adjusting for comparison That's an equivalent murder rate of 1376 per 100,000 for the town
The rate for the whole US is 6.3 per 100,000
The fact that he thinks he did the family a favor by making them stronger is absolutely terrifying.
eh its just being a narcissist where you yourself can never be wrong.
Families can be resilient. But losing a functioning member NEVER makes them stronger, on any level. Tragic to say the least.
That was a pathetic attempt at a rationalization of bad doings.
No, no. Never the same. My daughter will always be a shadow over the way I relate with my son and all of my grandchildren. I can see her in their eyes.
I can attest to that. My brother died in 1968 and I still miss him. It leaves a hole in you.
He was parroting truisms and “philosophical” platitudes he’s heard in movies and soaps and stored away. He has no real comprehension of them, or how inappropriate they are in this specific context. And literal lines from old B-movies. “He was young, too young..”
Listen at his old boss the politician and you see where he gets these “solemn” pompous mannerisms. But that guy was doing it as a self-consciously “old-fashioned” schtick. Thayne doesn’t realise this.
Do you remember Russell “I’m gonna release my bipolar!” The lady who knew him (her son was also autistic) and had taken him under her wing after she found him wandering about in a wifebeater vest in subzero temps, hungry - she said most of his conversation was made up of script lines like these.
I feel for all the victims, especially the young boy. I cannot even fathom the horror he felt in those last moments. Absolutely devastating.
He got SCARED 😂😂😂
Hi from Amity Maine. thank you for covering this story we moved here years after this tragedy. I drive past that trailer every day to and from work at the very same courthouse/jail/sheriff's office where this monster was held and tried before going to prison. Amity is a beautiful quiet town with the most amazing sunsets sunrise and stars that go on forever I pray they rest in peace. thank you for feeding my curiosity.
I'm curious what do the ppl there think was the real motive?
Do you have internet there? Lol

My heart genuinely hurts thinking about just how scared that little boy will have been.
He's bragging and enjoying the attention. The hallmark of a serial killer.
Yes! I said the same thing.
It’s clear that he thinks he has some sort of tragic, theatrical prowess and loves to hear himself do several brooding monologues. So cringe.
Hi Mike!! Boise girl here! Thank you so much for your hard work!! I am still alive and kicking! Thank you for being here for us. I appreciate you.

You're my favorite true crime storyteller. Thanks for the years of great videos!
Mikey tells these horrific story's with respect, facts, knowledge, compassion and sprinkles in bits of humor to take the edge off a tad. (The life insurance one is golden!) I will never understand how news reporters can report tragedies with a straight face and cold voice. Then in a chipper voice: Now back over to you Chuck in the news room!😐 Thank you for what you do Mike, because we love ya!
It's not mikey. It's Mike.
15:24 anyone else notice in the interrogation when he was asked if could think of any good reason for someone to do this? he slowly repeated the question and then at the exact same time as he said, "no", he nodded up and down. his body language exposed his true thoughts, as it typically does, especially with something so significant as a murder.
Wow, good spot.
Or, he nodded because he was sure there's indeed no good reason, only the sinister ones...
It was so melodramatic, it was almost laughable if it wasn’t so disturbing!
I love how Mike innocently tells us that the crime committed in this current video is 'unthinkabke', even though he knows we watch all of his videos every week and can pretty much think what that 'unthinkable' act probably is.
Prison snatched Thanes hairline all the way back..

Never been here within 30 minutes of upload before but I finally made it. Id like to thank my parents for giving birth to me, and Mike's parents for giving birth to such a legend
He was either coaxed into it or he's the most book-correct example of a psychopath we have documented in modern history.
There's also... a somewhat popular belief that he's covering for someone but with no proof, it remains speculation.
4:08 can we please put to bed once and for all this idea that there's any correlation between church attendance/religious faith of any kind and being a good person. If any correlation does exist then, the evidence would suggest, it's a negative one.

Same! My partner isn't into true crime like me, but will now ask "can you put true crime Mike on?"
A win. Shell probably be a full on Mike fan pretty soon
All the pieces add up to make motive sense.. the daughter, the divorce, the 16 year old... still so sad... Thanks Mike!
Thank you Mike for all your hard work. We appreciate them all.
It was a Tolkien thing. he and the 2nd detective were fans of lord of the rings, and they talked about that saying from Tolkien.

That politician wannabe was definitely sus. Not a good role model for sure.
My thought exactly.
Yeah, the patterns of this kind of situational experience has shown that to be the case. Predatory help
The way he acts like he had no reason is the reason why I think he was being molested or at the very least physically and mentally groomed.
There is a crime podcast that did an episode going more in-depth in this case and Thayne's past and yeah the politician raises a lot of red flags.
