Wow! 126 episodes of Hickory House & the tapes still exist! That number explains why Humphrey & Dusty are so hardwired into my childhood memory circuits. When I think of some of the dross these specialist 60s/70s DVD companies release, I can't believe they haven't released a complete series DVD/Blu-ray. Unless Dusty's phallic dildo nose (and the fact that Humphrey's face seems to be modelled on a full set of male genitalia) is felt too traumatising for people! I hasten to add it's only as an adult I spotted this - I can't believe they got away with it at the time as it seems so obvious (to me at least!)

Ooooo, vague memory of the exterior house cartoon, don't remember the music at all, don't remember the presenters .... but the cushion and the mop trigger distant, diiiiiistant memories ...
I uaed to love him because he wouldnt share a bit like me when i used to having my own way..my poor sister Annerley used to be crying becausd she was afraid of Humphrey ..what i would give just to have her back life can be very cruel😢
That dusty mop scared the crap out of me as a kid, I had recurrent nightmares about it staring in my window. Now I know where they came from…… and who to sue for therapy.
I guess Humphrey the cushion and Alan Rothwell gave an idea to the grange hill actor George Armstrong who passed away. Had an acting role as Alan Humphreys
I was obsessed with Humphrey the Cushion as a kid, simultaneously horrified and attracted to it - clearly my later interest in aliens & weird creatures can be traced back to Humphrey. Looking back, I cant believe they got away with modelling Humphrey & Dusty on male genitalia 😉

Humphrey scared me. I was a around 3, 4 years old in the 1970s.
I thought Humphrey was a pig that had its face sewn into a cushion, unparalleled body horror for my 3.5 yo brain.

Very different to anything I've seen before, the puppets seem very middle aged and beige.
The puppets are certainly unusual, Humphrey Cushion especially. I guess that's why it stuck in my mind for so long.
