- The Canon EOS R5 Mark II was just announced! Dave and Evelyn tested an early pre-production flagship camera in the Alberta prairies with Bianca Ferreira and a Cavalry FC soccer practice in Calgary. In this episode, they talk about the exciting new features, including a stacked sensor and robust features thanks to enhanced processing power and deep learning.

Thanks! It’ll be interesting to see in your future comparisons if image quality in the R5 II has taken a hit over the R5 for the sake of speed. Camera makers keep giving us faster sensors for action. I want better image quality for things that don’t move!
Thank Dave and Evelyn for this video. I would like to add one thing, please. It’s SAD that these days camera manufacturers justify their price increase by adding flashy but IMPRACTICAL features like upscaling jpg files to 180 megapixels! Why don’t Sony and Canon add 32 BIT FLOAT internal audio recording to their cameras? That will help the majority of camera users who are solo shooters. Panasonic LUMIX GH7 already has it. All the pros know audio is worth 50% of their videos. If the audio is bad, then the video is useless.
Another great review!!! Thanks Dave and Evelyn. Long term TCS client and a huge fan of your videos. As an amateur stills shooter, I don't think this is a must have upgrade. If I was earning a living with this camera, as a sports , wild life photographer, or videographer, it would be enticing. But for me, I think I will plow my dollars into continuing to upgrade my EF lenses vs. spending money on this new body. Do you think this camera offers enough features for the stills photography crowd to upgrade of the own the R5, or is their money best spent elsewhere in the canon ecosystem?
Neat camera. Happy to watch you guys.
Thanks for watching. It is pretty neat!
The added expense of having to purchase new batteries and grip inflates the price closer to that of the R3 ii which identifies as an R1, makes the Z9 more tempting at 45 mp
Thought you were flipping us off in the thumbnail at first! Lol
Haha I wondered if anyone else thought that. Oops
I like the face registration options, thanks for the overview +
For stills shooters, what do you estimate the dynamic range to be for stills? Much better than the R5?
We don't have numbers yet since we only tested a pre-production unit without RAW support. But generally, when you have a stacked sensor with a faster readout speed, there is a minor penalty in DR compared to a non-stacked sensor found in the R5. However, the Mark II's performance features might be a worthwhile trade, depending on what you are using the camera for.
@@TheCameraStoreTV What I expected. For still shooters like me, dynamic range supersedes any video enhancements. I think a wait and see approach is warranted when people start really using this camera. For me, it's a pass
@@jimbruton9482 I've heard from other reviews there is no improvement on DR :(
The little Screen on the Top Plate is tinier than a Nikon Z7 Screen.. now pass me my Z8 with a decent Screen and faster Sensor read out
Hi Folks. Long-time TCS client here. I'm sitting on the fence about a pre-order over on specific feature. Do you have any indication or knowledge if the camera does focus bracketing with flash? I think a lot of people interested in macro are hoping for this.
Very good question. I've reached out to Canon to see if we can get an answer for you on this.
@@TheCameraStoreTV Thank you!
@@SteveSSBB Here's the answer we received. "Focus bracketing with flash is possible with a compatible Canon Speedlite. Based on the EOS R3, I believe that just the Speedlite EL-1 is currently supported."
@@TheCameraStoreTV Great news. Thank you for that. I'll be in touch with web sales for my order!!!
6:48 you are referring to which skin tones?
Maybe you noticed that there not just white ones. I have never heard a black or brown person saying that.
Aren't the specs for dynamic range better with the R5M2 than the R5?
We don't have numbers yet. For video, since it uses CLOG2 as an option, it should be better. But, for stills, we might see a bit of a penalty for that faster scanning stacked sensor.
Did your pre-pre order at your store waiting eagerly for mine to show up 😊
Thanks for your interest. We are excited to get this camera into people's hands.
When S5 II has a built-in fan, I have to scratch my head with this one.
Does the S5II have 8k?
Has a stacked sensor?
No comparison.
Way better than the disappointing R3 Mark II (R1)
As a M43 shooter I want to see a great APSC camera but Canon says NOPE how about a ridiculously priced camera you don't want or need?! Screw you Canon!
Thanks for your review. I particularly like the western theme you used, as these are the kinds of subjects I like to shoot. It seems like a reasonable upgrade, but my current camera (OM1 ii) can do many things this camera can't do.
Thanks for watching
Like if your R5 mk II is coming this monday too. 🥰
Decent upgrade but nothing really earth shattering here.
With so much advancement in chip making why not make better processor and not stick to such old digic x. Its not just canon but sony and all others...
To keep costs down and increase efficiencies

This isn’t the r5 I was waiting for. Good thing, i didn’t hold my breath. Won’t consider buying it.
