    Kevin!!!! Another lovely interlude to calm my mind and enjoy the beauty of the sea and lush landscape. I can't get over those huge rounded boulders everywhere. Do you think they build around them or were they able to move them around during construction? I can't imagine a machine or crane able to maneuver around those hills to place them. Thanks again.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Comes down to checking multiple sites daily. When I came across great rates I planned the rest of the trip around it. Highly doubt they’ll ever be south of $800 again though. For what I’ve been calling “Six Senses Light…” check out L’alya Ninh Van Bay. Consistently less than half the price but just as beautiful in its own way. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

    Love all your videos! Big fan, what type of search engines do you use to check for hotel prices?

    • @tfft
      @tfft  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks very much! I build my itineraries and select my rooms using hotels.com. Then before booking I’ll see if it makes sense to instead book any of them through a credit card portal (AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts/Hotel Collection, Capital One, Chase Luxury Hotels). Then I’ll check Kayak/Agoda to see if there are any lower prices. If yes, I’ll book through hotels.com and then submit a price match. On rare occasions I’ll book with another site like Agoda if there’s some extra benefit from VIP/Genius status there. For example, next month at one hotel I’ll be at in Bali the Agoda price was $30 less than hotels.com and I could have price matched it, but the Agoda rate included a free massage.
      Sorry I know that’s a lot, but yeah- tbh that’s all just a small part of the time I put into choosing hotels and rates 😂.

      I have a drone, but between a mix of hotel policies and local laws, it's a rarity that I'm actually allowed to travel with it. This resort for example, forbids them (as do any resorts with private pools). If I was just filming in one country at a time it would be easier, but I often have 5-10 countries in one trip- so if one of those places doesn't allow drones, then I can't take it for the full trip. Hi! Do you recommend this or Amanoi or An Lâm? We can’t decide!

    • @tfft
      @tfft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would choose Six Senses or L’alya Ninh Van Bay (very close to SS). An Lam I did not have a great experience at and Amanoi, I have never visited, but given where the property is I cannot imagine it’s worth the price (and no matter how much research I’ve done on it, I’ve not been able to convince myself it could be worth it…).
      If you aren’t familiar with it please check out L’alya, there’s a video on my channel for it- it’s a little less refined than SS but I prefer the setting and the service style, SS just beats them on food. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

    • @tfft
      @tfft  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      To be honest I think it’s difficult to compare them as (maybe not now during Covid) I think they’re trying to appeal to slightly different customer bases. From my experience their strengths are-
      Zannier: Food program, Local inspired architecture (with extreme attention to detail), the Beach, the facilities (main pool, restaurants, lobby, etc), villas (personal preference…).
      Six Senses: Service (if you like high touch service), endless activities to book, Consistency, Spa, more family friendly, larger assortment of accommodations.
      Both: Setting, Sustainability programs
      I would go back to Zannier first, but only because I was there 6 weeks after they opened and I’d love to do a follow up video a year later.

      Silly to not like a resort because of one (old) cultural practice that doesn’t really exist anymore. Dog meat was never part of the culture in the central or southern parts of the country and even in the north is looked down upon now by the vast majority. A bit of tact wouldn’t hurt.

      So basically half of ASEAN countries along with China and South Korea will not be included in your future travels. What a horror for their economies!
