What a great video. I've been from the SK trailhead to Ribbon Falls and then back up the BA (over 2 days). I know how hard that was. I am always super-impressed at those that can do a R2R, let alone a R3. I was chuckling as I was watching because I knew the SK was going to kick butt. In hindsight wouldn't you maybe have gone down SK and up BA (more water sources, less gradient)? Pretty cool though and you should be proud of your accomplishment.
Hoping to do rim to rim to rim next summer.Hiked the route with a backpack and heavy camera, staying at the North rim for a couple of days in between last time. Each direction took about 10 hours with lots of stopping for photos.Traveling light and running it at a sensible pace should take a large chunk of time out of that.Walking the inclines is the sensible option.👍
Kudos! Great stamina! I would think food is the most difficult consideration--what kinds and how much. It didn't look like you had unbearable heat to consider.
Thank you Steven! I brought a turkey sandwich, granola bars, trail mix, several Spring Energy Gels (the 250 cal ones) and used Tailwind powder in my hydration pack for additional calories/electrolytes!
@@kimlevinsky Sounds like you were well prepared. Looking at the Nutrition facts for Mountain Inn Breakfast Skillet, I noted there were something like 1500 mg of Sodium, 82 mg of Calcium, and 724 mg of Potassium, so that provides for electrolyte intake. I brought with me a small dish of sliced meat (Turkey/Ham) and a few slices satisfied for a meal. Slim Jims also helped. I suppose the issue is not only size (compact) but something that can be tolerated., Sounds like you were well prepared.
@@StevenTorrey Those are some good ideas! I was doing a bit of running, so I'm not sure I could have stomach-ed the skillet. But I have used those for longer hiking efforts in the heat and they work well!! Congrats on your R3!!
Excellent video, great run! You're the kind of positive person who is so good to see on the trail. I've backpacked a lot in GCNP but never been to the North side (except to Phantom Ranch). Thinking about a R2R soon but I'm 60, so no R2R2R for me. One hangup is accommodations on the North Rim -- hard to come by normally and harder with COVID. I wonder if any of the shuttle services would deliver a duffel bag from the South to the North so I could send my heavy pack ahead.
Amazing!! Great effort Kim, I'm totally surprised at what you can achieve in one looooong day LOL :) Alex, Keep well, text and talk soon :) P.s Be safe in these times :)
I wonder if they have powdered gatorade you can put in water. My brother who used to run swore by gatorade and energy drinks and he used to do 15Ks and longer runs all the time.
I don't know if this tip would help: after birth of my first child I was given dermaplast spray and dermaplast "pads" that you "crack" and they activate nitrogen. They're supposed to be pads, but maybe if you need a quick "cool" those pads are not supposed to activate until you "crack" them and I don't think they would "melt". If your muscles hurt or you get a sunburn I have found dermaplast spray is terrific and COLD. Maybe these two products would help hikers??
Amazing adventure Kim, thank you for sharing. I'll scout out Tahoe for you in July (but I'm not running it!) I enjoyed the North Rim over the South but it's all amazing!
Hey Kim! Me and me GF are planning to visit Arizona this fall and wanted to run the Rim2Rim2Rim. Do you have a GPX file that you can share with me, and maybe some informations we should know?
Epic Kim! Love your 'tude and commentary the whole time. "...they looked like the walking dead." LOL...so true! Train people! Train harder than you think you could possibly need, cross-train on a mountain bike, and don't let up!! Getting in all the creeks is absolutely crucial. Keep your core temps low!! You're a beast Kim! AWESOME JOB!

In hindsight wouldn't you maybe have gone down SK and up BA (more water sources, less gradient)? Pretty cool though and you should be proud of your accomplishment.
absolutely should have gone down SK and back up BA! :-) Next time!
Respect!
Thanks!
Very impressive
Thanks!
Just stunning.
it was so beautiful!
Awesome, Michael! Have fun!!
I did it this August.Made harder work of it than I needed to,due to poor fitting shoes.
How do you get back in transportation from north rim to south rim
I believe there are shuttles that are available but need to be reserved in advance. I haven’t don’t that so I don’t details about it.
The plant you asked about was a yucca. My parents planted one outside my bedroom window when I was a kid.
Thank you!
You rock keep it up!
Thank you!
Thank you, Keith! Hmm I'm not sure about the shuttle service - That would be super nice if they could transport your stuff!!
Amazing!! Great effort Kim, I'm totally surprised at what you can achieve in one looooong day LOL :) Alex, Keep well, text and talk soon :) P.s Be safe in these times :)
WOW, these long-distance replies take time LOL :)
You are a Beast!!!
:) Thanks!
You rock super positive ❤
thanks for the kind words!
I wonder if they have powdered gatorade you can put in water. My brother who used to run swore by gatorade and energy drinks and he used to do 15Ks and longer runs all the time.
Epic Run...Hope to do it myself in about a year. I will be adjusting my expectations. Congrats on the massive accomplishment
Thank you! Good luck when get ou there!
Excellent! Thank you!!
Go by the published mileages by NPS....After 175 CG hikes over a 45 year per, GPS is very inaccurate in places! 23.9 + 20.9
What watch are you using?
It was a Coros Pace. I use a Coros Vertex these days.
Hey Kim! Me and me GF are planning to visit Arizona this fall and wanted to run the Rim2Rim2Rim. Do you have a GPX file that you can share with me, and maybe some informations we should know?
How did your adventure go?
Thank you Todd!!
