Mahomes is part owner of Sporting KC. Telling an athlete to “go have fun out there” or “stay healthy out there” in the US equates to “have a good game’”

No, its culture for the owner to say it to his own players, not to the opposition. And especially where the opp is the greatest player ever.

Pepi's agent really made a mistake with his public comments. PSV is running away with the league, and a lot of people would have envisioned a scenario where their last 3 games would be great chances for Pepi to start because the championship is already in hand. He could have finished the season with a little bump and momentum builder into the summer, but now it seems like he's facing some punishment. I don't buy the news that it's fitness related.

Agreed on set pieces, has to be Reyna, not Pulisic.

  • @chrishenderson1262

If you look at where GGG has Reyna on our corners, it's as the guy covering the top of the box. In other words, his stature difference compared to Pulisic (which could be a reasonable argument for Pulisic taking the set pieces) isn't the reason why GGG uses Puli for the services, because Reyna is never in the mix challenging for the ball in the air. So, basically GGG could swap their responsibilities directly and it would be a net improvement. At the very least he should let them alternate based on side of the field or just a back and forth fashion. Then let the player who shows the most consistency in delivering quality opportunities take the full-time role.
I consider it just another example where an average observer of USMNT games seems to see clearly a very simple problem and solution that GGG is unable to diagnose and treat.

    • @DerekLangdon

@@DerekLangdon you got me....I have to admit. I don't have GGG's resumé and would never be in consideration for the job.
Now, other than "he's experienced and you're not", do you have any real argument against my suggestion?
You're willing to ignore a simple and obvious observation because the observer isn't qualified with certain credentials?

I wouldn’t say Pulisic was good just because he was very involved. He could have set Giroud up for an easy tap in but he overdribbles instead of playing it first time. His shot that was saved was straight at the keeper.
Despite how good he’s been he still has a lot to improve on in his overall game.

Dude, Mahomes is the UNDISPUTED KING OF THE US ATHLETIC WORLD and that's all that matters to most Americans. Messi is a God outside the USA but not in the US. It's Messi that has to adjust to the US not the other way around. In the US, no sport is GREATER THAN FOOTBALL and that makes MAHOMES THE KING. Mahomes can say whatever the hell he wants to whoever he wants to. And you're making a huge deal out of nothing. It's between two top Men of their respective sports. Messi doesn't need your protection.

A great athlete, with lots of natural ability would make a better soccer player than a decent athlete who’s just as much natural ability… both complement each other…. Reliance on just one or the other has its limitations obviously.
Messi’s a decent athlete, quite good actually, and highly skilled. However, there are many dozens who are far superior athletes in the 3 major U.S. sports who also possess amazing skills, which had they been focused on soccer since a young age could definitely have been better, faster, stronger and probably even more skilled than Messi, Maradona, Cruyff, Best, Beckenbauer, or Pele.
Now, I don’t think a top tier U.S. athlete who’s 6’6” or taller would necessarily make a great soccer player, but I do think the top tier NFL players that play as backs, receivers and defensive backs could easily be stupendous soccer players had they done it since youth.
Now in reverse, very few of the top tier soccer players would’ve worked out in the NFL. Perhaps Portugal’s Ronaldo would work out since he’s both athletic, reasonably tall and skilled to make it as a receiver or defensive back…
Imagine super star athletes with incredible skill had they played soccer from youth:
      Barry Sanders
      Deon Sanders
      Steve Young
      Bo Jackson
      Jim Thorpe
      And so many more….
Note that I excluded Michael Jordan or a Tom Brady because I’m not sure their tall lanky frame would’ve been suitable for soccer.

      @@ian_r125
      @chaz_ashley162
You correctly point out that NFL players would likely be less ripped if they had adopted soccer from youth, but nonsensically point out that they have no endurance, and as such I would implore you to analyze each position more carefully rather than repeat tired clichés from capricious observers have for some dumb reason persisted for some time... of course, because gridiron football player positions are highly specialized, there's also great variance in each players' skill set and physique.
Specifically, linemen obviously would NOT be able to sustain but a few minutes of endurance, but the wide receivers and defensive backs would be able to easily OUT endure any soccer player - go look at training videos of top wide receivers and it's insane!
As for gridiron football positions, many would translate well for soccer as I previously mentioned. Specifically, the controlled movements around the hips and quickness of running backs would translate extremely well for a soccer dribbler. Likewise, I do think that top soccer dribblers would have the quickness and necessary skills to become decent running backs - of course as long as they had the appropriate size.
Lastly, note that soccer players are more fit than ever, mostly thanks to US sports medicine and training, so now is as good as any period in sports history to be able to compare the US sports versus soccer. I do think that as soccer becomes a viable sport in the USA, particularly in black neighborhoods, the USA will produce some of the best players the world has ever seen, and soon the USA will be a dominant soccer power.
