I always learn something new and interesting as a return player. 30 years ago I tooled around in some punk and metal bands. Sure enjoying these free lessons!
Mark, here on internet/youtube your'e one of the greatest bass-player and -teacher REALLY ! Also, this lesson is absolutely great ! And it helps me very much !!! But it sucks (sorry, for this german expression) when you are talking about tabs... For example: e-flat, 8th fret on g-string or c, 10th fret on d-string...and so on... I mean, it's okay for beginners; but when we're talking about the dorian scale, we should know, on which string or in which fret different tones/notes are located... Sorry, I had to get rid of it...
Im loving talkingbass....this is the most allround channel which teaches you with the best lessons...super organised and prepared, awesome great presentation....iam not a subscriber but ur organised lessons have really taken me to a next level im really happy......God bless u
Hi Mark ty for your lessons they are really useful and ur my best bassman :) I want to ask about left hand Technique (freting hand) i feel always uncomfortable with my left hand i need some advices or exercises to do or can u make some lessons for this. Thanks again!
TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons good old TH-cam eh! Would I be right in assuming that I could come up with something similar using Phrygian? Oh and great lesson by the way.
Does this not apply when everyone else will be playing Ab instead of A naturals? Or is it understood everyone else will be playing in Dorian mode also? Or is thinking in this mode for when hanging on a ii chord for long time, for example?
Yes, everyone else must be in that general ballpark. It can be chord ii in a major key or a chord I in a Dorian based tune. This happens quite a bit without people even realising. It's not Modal writing in the strictest sense but you'll get a lot of tunes (especially funk tunes) playing a minor key based around a Dorian rather than one of the 3 common minor scales. A lot of this is based around using your ear. The general harmony has to be based around a Minor 7 chord.
Mate it's great that you guys do this for free but all of you play to fast too much of the time for us beginners/intermediate to pick up. Fine do it at the finish to show how its supposed to end up but if you play fast it's almost pointless. It is going to take us months to emulate you at that speed!
Hay dude I absolutely agree with you he's going so fast and his camera is to far away to see exactly what notes he's playing. I hope he reads these comments so he'll act on it but I give him propps he's a outstanding player just slow down there.
Can he talk faster ? I am boring with this so so slow video. Lol Just kidding English is not my language ( I need more 'ear practice' on that) Thanks for sharing
These fills are fire.
I didn't realize until now that the Lesson Material is free, whether you subscribe or not. WOW that's very nice!
This was a great lesson Mark. Thanks for presenting the scale theory in bite-size pieces!
Thank you, Mark. That makes those fills more colourful.
I don't understand why this guy got only 100k subs. He deserves millions of subs.

So do modes only compliment minor pentatonics? Or can it go both ways with major.. I dont really understand modes
Hey Alex, marc posted a quick tutorial to learning modes and how to apply them. th-cam.com/video/x6mnPBMJWOc/w-d-xo.html
@@kingslaphappy1533 Awesome!!!! Thank you!!!
HI.Are we playing over C or D ? thank you
GREAT
Mark the link for lesson material is missing from the video description. Thought I’d let you know.
Yeah, I was still in the process of uploaded and it seemed to go public before I'd finished.
TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons good old TH-cam eh! Would I be right in assuming that I could come up with something similar using Phrygian? Oh and great lesson by the way.
Yes, but in that case you're going to be using a minor 2nd and minor 6th. You have to be sure it'll fit OK with the harmony.
Hey Mark ive got the same jade sr800 .. what pickups did you put on yours ? Thanks for lesson btw !
It's an SR1000 I bought about 1992. The pickups are Martin Sims Super Quads, Quad coil pickups.
Obligatory "which pickups are those" question.
@@kahwigulum haha I"m barely learning of such things haha I wouldn't even have thought to ask if I liked what my ears hear =D Have a great day!!!
i love you

Legend. Thanks!!!!
For some reason, I can't save this video to my playlists.
I reject the assumption my fills are boring..... Strangely phrased, out of time and badly fretted yes but never boring.
Over the electric grapevine....please

Change playback speed in TH-cam options?
This is not a hack.
Great tutorial. I'm not a huge fan of the bass tone though. It is super muddy with an unpleasant quack to it.

Slow the video down in the settings...
