I just got my first combat patrol of tau. Then my best friend got me the combat patrol of tyranids. These two will be my first armies and models for warhammer and it’s all thanks to you guys for getting me into it. Thanks guys for introducing me to this wonderful game!

The released indexes does show alot of interesting stuff. Some are nerfs, some are buffs. We don't know the costs of things yet however, and we still haven't got a clue to the supposedly new models that are coming later. Rumors are abound as well.

I don't think the leviathan box is a very good tyranid starter IF you're planning on playing competitively. Aside from the termagants, the neurotyrant and the barbgaunts the stuff in the box isn't very good. The screamer killer is way over-costed, the psychophage has very little damage output and a 6+++ fnp in a 6" aura isn't going to do much especially considering you can bring a carnifex for the same point cost, the neurogaunts are a trap and will get your neurotyrant killed with the way the bodyguard rules works and the winged tyranid prime is awful.
somehow the sentence combatr patrol is allways a good way to start is so wrong, there are combat patrol boxes which are better and some which are horrible
I am completely disappointed by this index.. every unit I love basically will be very underwhelming in this new 10th meta.. the very bad stuff: - Carnifexes are just terrible.. no upgrade for BS, "only" T9 and Heavy venom cannon also only S9... with guard shooting at BS 4+... wounding terminators only on 3 if they even hit, and they do nothing against a space marine tank, which has BETTER T, BETTER shooting and BS, and good rules on top. and melee also sucks at only WS 4+.. even if you lead them with old one eye you still only get 2 carnifexes with a reroll still hitting on 4+.. TLDR: they go from wounding a regular tank on a 3 to wounding them on a 5.. and they hit only on a 4+ to begin with. - Maleceptor was the first unit I looked at (my favorite model) and it already looked kinda meh... D6+3 S10 D3 IS good and just made for killing terminators, but thats all it does now + its kinda hard to kill.. for other tyranid players at least.. since S10 seem like their absolut maximum shooting... but seeing the carnifexes later sadly makes this look good again in comparrison.. - Hive Tyrant is what every single carnifexes should be, but will probably be overpriced, assault is nice, but still lacks any significant killing power against vehicles. - Pyrovores are dead.. lost ap and damage and versatility - Zoan/neurotropes, 3 shots for a squad of 3 hitting on 3+ with no rerolls at all in the army. absolutly not worth bringing 200 points and them very likely to fail 1-2 shots.. and then ending up dealing only 3 damage maybe.. WAY to random Probably disapointing: - Tervigons + a bunch of termagants will still be a meme more so than a dream, and genestealer basically do this on their own but better. And he will probably still be overpriced massively - Despite how cool the new Neurotyrant looks, lets be honest, he really doesn't do anything meaningful besides making that ONE turn battleshock more likely, which already is a meh rule. - Tyrannofex looks good but will be overpriced again 100% for what it does.. while space marine tanks will have a similar profile with a lot more weapons and access to rerolls the only hope?: - lictor will probably be the best all around anti infantry option per point. auto inculde 3 depending on their points? which I like at least, we dont have many AP-2 D2 left in the game - Old one eye is probably the biggest winner I can see in the entire codex, as the single unit who can actually walk up to tanks and deal damage to them. - Mawloc deepstriking in the middle or an edge of the enemy CAN be funny and dishing out some major mortal wounds IS fun, but probably not worth the cost in points and also just spread damage that doesn't help kill key targets. kinda funny though that he has a 50/50 chance to literally just eat a terminator alive. so what is at least somewhat good?: - Screamer killers can at least kill medium tanks AND deal with terminators making them the ONLY dual purpose unit in the army - Barbgaunts against any infantry heavy list only - Venomthropes provide a good bit of defense with -1 to hit and +1sv So unless all these units are VERY VERY CHEAP in points, I am not happy fielding a single one of these units besides maybe at least having 3 screamer killer left instead of the 6 I ran in 9th.. Every monster in the army needs adrenal glands back.. at least S+1 on every weapon, the way it is now they just dont have any kill potential. the army as a whole is very bad at killing anything above T9 unless you take some probably overpriced units that still wont have enough volume to kill and are then very bad against anything else. and they also have no relevant combat tricks, only lethal hits that are EXTREMELY unreliable and not fun
i dislike the new shadows in the warp ability. its a one off mediocre ability that gets you really in trouble if you play vs daemons. which is wierd as daemons should not like shadows in the warp^^
We will still be using them in our games. We just won’t bring them to tournaments. Also they will make great count as for some of the other big tyranid monsters.
@@PlayOnTabletop Awesome to hear. I love the models. Disappointed GW decided to remove one of our coolest big bugs from tournament play. Hopes up for a plastic release in the future.
I don't like how nids are looking this edition, too many profiles have been lumped onto the same state lime, warrior bone swords, talons and claws all have the same profile different data sheets for ranged and melee warriors and no sheet for the prime have to take a pre always with the warrior unit flying hive tyrant will get gunned down in seconds cause you can't add any addition blockers for him alot of the sheets are just gutted and don't look fun or interesting to play for me this edition.
You may want a second glance. While some granular options seem to be lacking there is a whole new garden of really nuanced options to find and refine the use of for the good of the hive mind.
@tychoimmega9741 I don't think so they removed 3 hqs turning one of my favorite units into a glorified Sargent with no abilities even though the winged prime gets his own datasheet I was hopeful but after these data sheets half the units don't work well together the winged have tyrant is just useless.

You don’t have to rebase if you do not want to. Gw have said many times that you can use the bases that came with the minis.
im sorry playon, i have gotten beaten to a pulp by tyranids to the point where i cannot like them anymore
You dont have to like em to learn how to kill em! happy hunting!
Any news on the Dimachaeron?
Tyranids with weapons look so damn stupid. They should BE the weapon.
I am completely disappointed by this index.. every unit I love basically will be very underwhelming in this new 10th meta..
the very bad stuff:
- Carnifexes are just terrible.. no upgrade for BS, "only" T9 and Heavy venom cannon also only S9... with guard shooting at BS 4+... wounding terminators only on 3 if they even hit, and they do nothing against a space marine tank, which has BETTER T, BETTER shooting and BS, and good rules on top. and melee also sucks at only WS 4+.. even if you lead them with old one eye you still only get 2 carnifexes with a reroll still hitting on 4+..
- Pyrovores are dead.. lost ap and damage and versatility
- Zoan/neurotropes, 3 shots for a squad of 3 hitting on 3+ with no rerolls at all in the army. absolutly not worth bringing 200 points and them very likely to fail 1-2 shots.. and then ending up dealing only 3 damage maybe.. WAY to random
Probably disapointing:
- Tervigons + a bunch of termagants will still be a meme more so than a dream, and genestealer basically do this on their own but better. And he will probably still be overpriced massively
- Despite how cool the new Neurotyrant looks, lets be honest, he really doesn't do anything meaningful besides making that ONE turn battleshock more likely, which already is a meh rule.
- Tyrannofex looks good but will be overpriced again 100% for what it does.. while space marine tanks will have a similar profile with a lot more weapons and access to rerolls
the only hope?:
- lictor will probably be the best all around anti infantry option per point. auto inculde 3 depending on their points? which I like at least, we dont have many AP-2 D2 left in the game
- Old one eye is probably the biggest winner I can see in the entire codex, as the single unit who can actually walk up to tanks and deal damage to them.
- Mawloc deepstriking in the middle or an edge of the enemy CAN be funny and dishing out some major mortal wounds IS fun, but probably not worth the cost in points and also just spread damage that doesn't help kill key targets. kinda funny though that he has a 50/50 chance to literally just eat a terminator alive.
so what is at least somewhat good?:
- Screamer killers can at least kill medium tanks AND deal with terminators making them the ONLY dual purpose unit in the army
- Barbgaunts against any infantry heavy list only
- Venomthropes provide a good bit of defense with -1 to hit and +1sv
So unless all these units are VERY VERY CHEAP in points, I am not happy fielding a single one of these units besides maybe at least having 3 screamer killer left instead of the 6 I ran in 9th..
Good assessment of what the index actually looks like.
i dislike the new shadows in the warp ability. its a one off mediocre ability that gets you really in trouble if you play vs daemons. which is wierd as daemons should not like shadows in the warp^^
Nice triple dimachaerons there that can't be used in tournament play because GW arbitrarily decided they get the legends treatment.
Hopes up for a plastic release in the future.
shadow in the warp used to be related to the lore
now its bad and in no way related to nids
random gimmick go isnt a way to make a codex
Having tried it a couple times. It can be game changing if used at the right time.
@tychoimmega9741 I don't think so they removed 3 hqs turning one of my favorite units into a glorified Sargent with no abilities even though the winged prime gets his own datasheet I was hopeful but after these data sheets half the units don't work well together the winged have tyrant is just useless.
them being a weak joke and marines getting even more unneeded buffs
is a good time to play them?
This didn't age well!
