+opmdevil have you shot a scar before. i never have. do they handle pretty nice? i use to think exposed bolt was the best way to go but thanks to in range channel i found out that enclosed bolts are a lot more reliable so i just getting into them. is the scar a short stroke piston or direct impingement?

***** thats pretty awesome. i never really care for the m1as myself i thought they were a little bulky a little over powered for semi auto and i hated closed sights period front or rear. i was never able to find an open notch iron sights.

The best thing they could've done is offer this as a kit for the 17. Include the Scar wrench, barrel, stock and forend extension. The Scar is supposed to be a modular rifle that can change forms in the field.
Crazy. When I toured the FN factory here in Columbia 2 years ago I saw pieces of this rifle on an engineers desk as I walked by and asked him about it ( I have a SCAR 16s.) He indicated it was for a prototype they were working on. Should be a badass rifle.

I always thought the scar looked a little fat but with this longer setup it looks pretty good, and the little window at the front makes it even better.
1:12" probably to stabilize and maintain reasonable accuracy with M80 round (146 gr ball)

Shot one and its an amazing rifle, I am not a great shooter and it did 3/4" MOA for me at 100 yards. The heavy barrel definitely shows over the 17S (pencil barrel). The 17S is no slouch but the 20S has a different purpose, both are great! I will get one for sure.
I first heard about this rifle back around 2010 or 2011. This thing has been on my radar for some time, and I snagged one this past week.

No kidding, I didn't think FN was coming out with anything new this time around. I heard about the DMR a while back, but that was it, a passing article somewhere. Glad to see they kept to the core weapon system and just improved. Needs some quick release for the optics though. I'm scared of the MSRP though. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this one's going to run in the $4,500-5,500 range, barebones.
Unpopular as the opinion may be, I detest the AR platform. Even before my time in the Corps, I just didn't like it. I never shot well with an AR, never felt comfortable handling one. I'm very comfortable with a heavier gun, like the AK, SCAR, or even the L85 to a lesser extent. I've owned a couple AR guns, built them all from receiver up, but they just never felt right to me, you know what I mean?

I can't remember why but for whatever reason they can't get the color to be the same on all the parts. So they just stuck with like 20 different tans on them lol.

Liking the look of that SPR ASM XP too.
The main diference is the barrel profile and they added 2 more screws to lock the barrel in place.

Zero Sum Game The Scar's we have now get 1-3/4ths MOA. Heavier barrel, i think its doable.

Tom Clancy's The Division brought me here, use to be a weak rifle but after patch 1.4 this rifle is a beast with the right set up. I would like to own and shoot this gun in real life, at a range of course.

You didn’t mention the most important details.
Is the charging handle non reciprocating?
Does the lower accept magpul pmags by default?
Did they have to put the cheese graders on it?

Because standard attachment points? They look removable and if nothing else, get rail covers.
Personally, the rails wouldn't bug me while shooting, I keep my hand on the stock. But plenty of space for a VG up front if needed as well
***** First off, VGs suck, I don't know why anyone uses them. Second, If it's detachable I retract my statement.
dreyrugr I would only use a VG for doing "run and gun" drills because I find they help support the rifle a bit better than without it. For bench shooting, they're worthless.
Also, fair enough.
***** I was mostly joking about VGs, I just don't like them at all personally. I can see how some people could like them but I find it hilarious when someone with a VG on their gun isn't even using it. I found them useful for general carry, but when actually shooting I prefer a clean rail.

I've dreamed of one of these for years.
I think Nutnfancy's philosophy of use comes into play in terms of this gun. It's just so dang big and heavy that it just doesn't seem like it would be the best choice for any one given thing.

From the looks of it, I take it you can't run it in the 16" configuration? I'm debating this (the DMR) or just getting the 16" and get a HDD 20" Shilen conversion later... I wonder if the FN DMR has the same size or a beefier barrel trunnion?
FN apparently doesn't pay attention to the aftermarket.1:12 twist? On a DMR rifle? Really?Why wouldn't they go with a rifle length gas system on a 20" barrel? Why wouldn't they keep the folding stock? They could maintain the variability and help make it a bit shorter for infil.

Nice, it would be nice if FN would pay more attention to their production lines rather than their wallets. This new rifle will be a flop if they can't deliver (they're always late).
Since this is a new gun, I'd think FN would have used an upper with a removable handguard or something slimmer and lighter. But they're the experts.
