Eric is so interesting to see in this line up, Eric’s my absolute favorite as well. He’s almost like the opposite of what Vai and Satch are. While those guys are known for there shred chops and more progressive look at guitar, Eric could almost be known more as an antithesis to those guys with his more pentatonic and blues based chops on the instrument. I think it’s interesting that Vai and Satch wanted him over a guy who more fits in there style of guitar like Yngwie or Petrucci or Kotzen or Gilbert. I love it so much that they picked a guitarist so unlike themselves to share in this huge guitar related tour

Eric Johnson Manhattan was ridiculous, it was absolutely perfect as was all his playing that night and every night. It’s crazy how talented this man is. His music is so incredibly hard to play as well which makes it even more unbelievable. Incredibly technical playing.
Eric plays the guitar like someone forgot to tell him he’s not playing a piano. His chord work, call and response, fugue work, transitional voicings… it’s like Debussey was given a guitar. Honestly once you’ve heard one shredder you’ve heard them all, but I don’t know anyone else who plays like Eric Johnson

This is a concert film I hold dear to my heart…my dad would put it on when we were cleaning at home, and it just rocked my world. All the different flavors of the guitar. I love this set list so much as well. The energy of these gentlemen was very inspiring to me as a young guitarist. Bless this finely produced flick❤️

For those who were not born in 1996, I heard this in 1998 and G3 had several versions with the greatest guitarists around. But you got to give in to Joe Satriani for starting something like this. An eclectic mix of blues, rock, metal and RnR. What else can you expect from three geniuses and other G3s? Awesome... Glad I found a live version after 22 years.
EJ is my favorite and I Like his style. He can integrate all techniques in a single song from picking,sliding,harmonics and complex chords. Switching between clean and lead. He can throw a fast sweep sometimes. So many things is going on for a single song from rhythm harmony and melody. I love his arrangements! So simple and yet very powerful to my ears.
28:30 love this piece that Eric plays. Such a talented guy and one of the guys who finally made me realise that you don't need to play a million miles an hour to be a good guitar player. Since I've gotten older my musical taste has changed and the likes of Eric,SRV, Clapton and Gilmour really make me realise what good music is. I'll always have a special place for Vai and Satriani in my heart but I've moved on. All the rock guitars and gear have gone, I now own 2 strats, a sidekick 65 amp and a small effects unit - that's all I need now.
I saw them this tour at the Beacon Theater in NYC. I was there primarily to see Eric Johnson but Satch made me so happy when he did 'Summer Song' as that always puts a smile on my face whenever I hear it. Then EJ played 'Manhattan' and 'Camel's Night Out' (two of my favorites) and I was in heaven. BTW, it was the same night the Yankees won the World Series (10/26/96) just miles away in the Bronx and when we got out of the concert the streets were filled with Yankees fans celebrating the win. What a night to remember!
When I was going through a war in 1990. Gulf war one. Desert storm desert shield. I was rushed into a very high-level position and not many could handle it. Are used to listen to this man play all the time they just kept me pump and help me through that. It’s simple. That’s what this man’s music can do exceptional. I was a pro musician at one time, and I understand what music does to people, and when I walked on a stage I was able to change people’s lives. It’s an amazing thing to do. Not about being a hotshot it’s about performing really did it for me. There’s some others but there are some D’s guys that must be regarded as the best. This man is one of them! My highest regards.

Got to see Vai on the Inviolate Tour with the Hydra about 15 feet away. Packard Music Hall Warren Ohio. Back in early November 22. He is still absolutely incredible. That doesn't even do him justice.
