I also feel that it has to do with how Yellow is almost always on the go and White almost never leaving her ship. With Pink supposedly shattered Blue Diamond seems to be giving Essence for gem production. The sauna was a partial solution to this as Yellow is always on the go and has to give essence somehow. So the sauna is the answer she can get in and get out at a moments notice. If you think about it Yellow was running 2 courts due to Blue's grieving of Pink Diamonds shattering.

This would make sense in regards to how the Diamonds try to destroy/get rid of off-colored gems. If they are truly made of their essence, they definitely wouldn’t want something that’s “imperfect” to be viewed as something they created.

I think that it makes perfect sense that gems are created using part of the diamonds. THEIR diamond, to be more specific. As soon as they emerge, there is an unwavering dedication to their diamond. I think that after Pink was 'shattered' the remaining diamonds experienced something similar to a chemical imbalance. This changed how gems were made for the worse, and affected all of the gems made from that point on.
That's just what I think though.

How were gems made?
Same way as the pebbles, except they were cultivated far longer and more precissely than any pebble. What exactly did you think the injectors were filled with to start with?
How were the Diamonds Made? Well, I'm fairly certain that the Pink, Blue and Yellow were made by White by extracting all of the color out of herself and into each individual diamond. However without those parts of herself… well, she's now an empty shell of who she once was. (Btw, this is also why she's so much more powerfull than the other three diamonds. She was the original.)
Now the only question that needs to be answered is…… Who Created White? (Or whoever she was originally.)

I doubt that. I don't think Pink Diamond's absence would cause this crisis. It could have contributed to it but I don't think it's the main factor. I'm not ready to believe that yet because we don't know what Homeworld considers resources, since what we've seen so far along with what they consider resources could be very different, and you would think that maybe their years of conquest on other planets might cause this because the more they expand the more they have to build and maintain certain things.

This was exactly the theory I posted in the last vid and I'm so happy you made a new vid about it! That toothbrush theory is interesting, though I always assumed Peridot always had metal powers - and that's how she was able to manipulate her limb enhancers. She just didn't know that ability could be applied to non-limb-enhancing stuff
I have a question tho so if the diamonds have to make sweat in their saunas to make gems but why didn't they make a fountain like Rose/Pink's fountain back on earth so they will have perfect gems and not have to be in their saunas constantly 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I think it starts as a pebble and then collects resources from a planet to create a more powerful gem. In Amythest's kindergarten, all life is dead around it. Therefore, a gem starts out as a pebble like you said, and then grows more and more depending on the ammount of resources and type of resources used in the gem.

A problem with that is this question: Why?
The other Diamonds never mention that they have Pebbles, nor do we see them have their own Pebbles. Yeah, with the power of all four Diamonds, they can create and prevent the corruption of gems, but only Pink Diamond can actually give life or heal life (gem or organic) individually.
Also, going to Pink, she had more time on her hands because she was, supposedly, the youngest with barely any time to do any responsible things and, when she is watching over her own actual colony, she barely spent time with them, which explains why she never really mentions them.
There could be more for me to say, but that's all i've got to say for now :/
What I find interesting is the fact that humans on earth seem to ignore the fact that they live under the tyranny of a hostile alien species, even though we see them attempt to invade earth multiple times In the show. Imagine if homeworld showed up to earth and the show followed real life logic? The National Guard would be deployed and the Air Force would scramble fighter jets to fight them, and maybe even all of earth’s nations would come together to colonize space and take the fight to homeworld. Now that would be an interesting story!

The gems invaded before humans learned to read and left the world covered in corrupted monsters. Human population appears to be much lower than in reality.

It’s a strange world, and the humans don’t seem to care that Earth is at the brink of destruction every other week.
gems invading and doing other crap has been something humans in this world were familiar with throughout all of history. it's just not that big of a deal to them, and they probably think it best not to mess with these powerful aliens that have been messing around on earth for millennia.
Maybe it's the combination of Pink and Whites absence.
All four Diamonds being needed to make a gem definitly makes sense, especially in combination with the printer ink theory. Different mixes of the four Diamonds are used to make different color gems. This also explains why blue gems tend to belong to Blue, yellow gems to Yellow, and so on. It really adds to the depth in Blue saying the Rose Quartz were Pink's and not wanting to destroy them. They were literally the last piece of her they thought they had left because they were made primarily of Pink's essence. (This thought just occurred to me and it's only half an idea, but what if the whole thing with Steven thinking he had a sister was actually forshadowing his relationship to the real Rose's bubbled at the zoo?)
This theory does seem to hold a lot of answers. After all, peridot as an era 2 gem seems like a regular functioning gem except for the fact that she lacked powers.
Pink seems to be all about the social, emotional, and expressive side of the Daimond authority. Thus if she were taken out of the gem creation picture, it would probably link to gems not being able to "express" their powers.
Actually, if always wandered, has a home world gem ever actually really summoned a weapon? The crystal gems have their own personal weapons, however none of the homeworld gems seem to mostly have aura based power, like lapis and peridot. They have power, but no physical weapon.
Peridot's limb enhancers we're mass produced weapons, also the destapilizer. I'm not sure if Jasper's helmet is an actual helmet or her helmet (she is perfect though). I think that when pink was healing her soldiers during the war, she was sharing her powers with them, making them stronger and more expressive regardless of their actual diamond loyalty. This could have lead to them being able to create physical manifestations of their powers into weapons. Crude weapons , but weapons, and with Bismuth around, they were able to modify and define those weapons into a concrete shape. I mean we see Ruby apart from sapphire can summon her gauntlet, but the Ruby squad never did such a thing and they don't look much different from our Ruby, so they are also probably Era 1 Rubies. They should be able to use weapons instead of just turning into a hulk version. However, without further influence from pink, they can't express that raw power into gauntlet form like our Ruby did. Even Steven falls into this. He couldn't summon his weapon until it FELT right to him, his weapon is an expression of his need to protect his friends. Everyones weapon has a deeper meaning to them.
Amythyet, shortest gem, has a weapon with roughly the longest reach, Garnet(Ruby) just needs to follow Garnet (Sapphire) and hit stuff harder, while Garnet(Sapphire) needs to see as clearly as possible. Pearl literally wants to be a knight rather then a servant and defend (primarily Rose)

(Though was that a summon, I would have to go back and see if there was a glow) also forgot Holly, though again, we don't know when any of those gems we're created and since Blue Daimond placed her their after pink left, she was probably already made, thus an era one gem. Because yeah, a whip also reflects Holly's job, in a different way from Amethysts whip.
Also, when Amethyst explained Gem Production in one of the shorts, she said "They shot this junk into the ground" *EDIT(sry for repeating the video I wrote this mid-video)* but doesn't the lack of explanation of the strange gem-making substance make this theory seem more plausible?
Since Pink's "substance" gives life to overall playful and or energetic characters; like the famethysts, lion, Lars, the pebbles etc, wouldn't the same apply for Blue, Yellow and White? Each substance giving different traits for each respective diamond?
This got me thinking about how Blue makes Aquamarines and if Aquamarine was actually given a narcissist personality for a reason

So when I watched "Familier" when Steven was talking to Blue Diamond I noticed something - a clue! So Blue asked Steven if he remembered a game Pink., Yellow, Blue, & WHITE used to play so I bet that when Pink was "shattered" White was soooo depressed that she turned into the White we love & know today!
I also think that ! YD, BD and WD all show different reactions to the death of a loved one :

i think these are realy good points but i think this conversation calls up a bigger topic that people have generally ignored because of genuin misconceptions of information.
people think the gem species DONT grow, because they are projections of light. and combining that fact with how different show artists tend to draw varying sizes to characters like the diamonds for example, we dont realy notice whe genuine size growth happens.
let me point to a statement from one of the shorts though. in the one where they talk about how gems are made, steven asks (innocently) if they were ever babys. amethyst replies "ew no" followed by explaining how they "SKIP" that by absorbing life energy from the surounding area, so they can burst out already "FULLY GROWN". this is very specific language. now look at Pink's varying size in flashbacks/stories. or other gems like amethyst. gems do grow, but not in the traditional biological sence. i think as they age, they produce more energy of their own, causing their forms to become larger.
extraction however, coud be not just because the diamonds have magical qualities making them different in certain ways, but because they naturally produce MORE of natural grown energies, that make them grown and become more powerfull, quicker. extraction allows them to release that excess developed by-product of their growth, to be beneficial to home-world.
now you could argue this doesn't make sence, look at their gems, they are huge too, they couldn't have been smaller, but ever look at fusions? how the realy big ones have false gems formed over where the real ones would be, but at a larger size to match the proportions of the fusion.. how they arnt the colors of the original gems BUT the colors that match the fusion. why couldn't the diamonds be doing this too? a layer of light the color of their gem, over their gem, to match the size of their stature. the real yellow, blue, and white diamond gems could actually be nearer to the size of pink's gem!
and if thats not enough, why does pinks gem look so much bigger, even as rose quartz, then steven's? because its just being covered in light to look larger, to fit the gem's height.
anyways thats my response. i realy hope you read this one because im tired of being the only one sharing this theory because no one else is considering this realization.

It's just them not following model sheets and being lazy about it. Face features change too and body proportions as well, human characters change like that too.

@@sephiriza i covered that already in this comment actually, and acknowledged all of that. but there's always the chance that we are just using that knowledge about the different artists (and the fanbase has infact been doing this by default) to blatantly ignore when proportions do infact change. we are so use to the style changes and errors that we ignore when theres and actual change, especially coupled with the comment from the steven universe short i mentioned.

But notice that the biggest drain on resources, Mr. 1% himself Tony Stark, was one of the two survivors on Titan.
Another thing that could support it is that the diamonds mimic the actual primary colors, being cyan, yellow, and magenta. Missing one of the colors could mean the types of gems they could make is greatly limited. It’s even reflected in peridot. If my memory serves, the only gem we know of that is confirmed to be Era 2 is peridot. Her color, being green, is made from yellow and blue. While all the reddish gems or gems that would involve pink in them that we’ve seen have been shown to be made in era 1.
I like the detail that Yellow’s new sauna had a drain like the new Homeworld insignia, when Blue’s bath, where all of the diamonds use to go, had the old insignia for a drain!! It’s such a nice detail and it shows the crewniverse’s care towards the show!

During pink diamonds alleged shattering who do you think took up the brunt of the resource extraction for gem production, White Diamond, it explains why she's so happy to see pink again and why her physical form wouldn't be up to par if she was trying to do 3xs her haul for thousands of years to make up for pinks absence at court.
So this explains why particular gems are in particular courts for example blue gems like Agate or Aquamarine are in the blue court because they are blue because they have the Blue Diamond essence.

Oh yeah! When Blue Diamond snapped at Steven at the Trial, “IT WAS A SWORD!” That blue aura made everyone feel what she was feeling, except in this case, Sapphire physically affects everything around her.

I don’t think it’s purely related to color though, because if it was, Rubies would be created by Pink which would have made them rare over the 5000 years of Pink‘s absence. Which they are clearly not, considering the Ruby Squad’s and Holly Blue Agate’s reactions, they’re still considered lowly and disposable. But the thing with the powers is probably true, they likely just use different mixtures of essence for different Gems. That would explain why Yellow oversaw a Citrine production and why Blue was so attached to Pink‘s Rose Quartzes, these newly created Gems were mainly made of their Diamond‘s essence which gave them similarities that extend to both powers and physical appearance.

There was an interesting theory I saw on Tumblr that talked about how White Diamond's extraction chamber was built into her ship since she never leaves it. The post talked about how you can see white strands coming out of her body and you see these same weird white veiny strands all throughout homeworld ( 3:44 ) Idk just something I thought that should be pointed out.
I think every Diamond was made for that.
I think all gems start off white/colorless. Then, the 'sweat' from the Diamonds helps to color them. Some things worth noting: 1) Steven's pink sweat. 2) The blue liquid across Steven's face while in Blue's pool. 3) Peridot, one of the few era 2 gems that we know, is green (the combination of yellow and blue pigmentation).
It seems like the resource crisis was also due to the pigmentation shortage when Pink was no longer around to add her color to the mix. There is something called the RYB color model that, according to a quick Google search, says that ' cyan [blue], magenta [pink], and yellow are the best set of three colorants to combine, for the widest range of high-chroma colors.'
So, it seems like White Diamond acted like some kind of prism to create the Diamonds, who in turn use parts of themselves to create more gems.

This actually makes sense. But maybe because of the Gem War, Homeworld went all out to put an end to the rebellion. Even the diamonds stopped attending their current colonies and left a hand for Homeworld to gain an advantage. But by the time the war was over, the damage was already done. Resources were brought to a bare minimum which took thousands of years before the advancement in their technology. Millions, billions of gems were either corrupted, captured, or shattered. And the process of making new gems on other planets was dwindling. So, yeah.
Talking walls and singing combs is the referrence of Beauty and the Beast. Little pebbles is like the mice of Cinderella. Steven is a Disney princess. More like cartoon network prince.

What an interesting correlation between Peridot's metal powers all that time ago to these recent revelations and theories. It would be amazing if these actually did tie together. I used to just think Peridot's powers just suddenly appearing after thousands of years of her existence and just never happening was merely a result of plot convenience if not the fact Homeworld just crammed her into the Limb Enhancers from her emergence- not giving her the *time* to develop them as a result of the resource decline. "Gems are what they are", so I can see them easily assuming "Oh if she didnt come out with her abilities, she's not just going to get them post-emerge". Growing over time and developing isn't really a physically known geological thing for them, they're used to and known to only develop prior to the gaining of sentience at the end of their first formation.

This theory makes a lot of sense, and I think the white lines arcing across White Diamond's cape could be connecting her to this process even while she stays inside her ship.
Pink wanted to help expand her empire and ended up dismantling the entire thing because feelings
You know how white diamond’s hands aren’t showed in her debut. Maybe it’s because she is giving recourses to fill in for pink diamond’s recourses and she can’t leave her ship for that reason
Since Steven sweat,tears and saliva can heal gems maybe the stuff that come out of the diamonds are stored somewhere and used when an important gem need to be healed like a sapphire or something
This provides another reason for Pink/Rose to stage her own shattering: she knew Pink's absence would make any new gems less powerful, which could help her win the war.

One of Steven's power now shown in Familiar that I noticed is how he has the power to create organic life of versions of organic gems (hence the pebble created not having a gem)

The diamonds being this involved in gem production might explain why off color gems are so taboo; something perfect shouldn’t make something that isn’t also perfect. It’s also probably how gens just know what to do when they pop out of the earth. If a diamond needs soldier gems, you have that intention set with the injectors, and you get soldier gems.
Wait I just relised something Yellows court is concertrated and tough like Topaz but we know even the toughest gems can be put into an emotional state. Just like Yellow Diamond! So they are perfect in their diamonds eyes not another one, and I guess if they get the job done they would be concidered a fully functional gem.

I have a kinda half-baked theory about gem production. Gem production can continue without Pink Diamond, though the product is lower quality. It is mentioned “Back to the Kindergarten” and “A Single Pale Rose” that kindergartening sucks the life from its surroundings. Rose Quartz’s powers are connected to healing and life-giving abilities, and all her powers came from Pink Diamond (bc their the same person). The resource crisis could be because without Pink Diamonds powers to add life into kindergartening, gems need to suck more life from their environment. Because gems require more resources from the kindergarten environment, resources are depleted at a faster rate.
Again, I just came up with this and I haven’t really looked into it that much, but here it is. Feel free to reply what you think, ma dudes.

In should point out that some gemstones and crystals grow in hot water . For example Gypsum , commonly used in the production of drywall , grows in very hot water deep underground and left undisturbed , with the correct mix of minerals , can grow as large as trees . There is a chamber in a mine in Mexico where they found crystals that where 7 feet thick and weighing several tons .
THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE! If the sweat of the diamonds produces gems, then that is why they have the lack of resources! Pink probably showed up to each of the diamond's version of extraction chambers. Also, you know how gems have traits and powers from their diamond? It all makes sense because they're literally a part of their diamond. When we see Pink Diamond's kindergartens, the injectors have a pink fluid in them. Steven's sweat was pink so that is more proof that the diamonds create gems with their sweat. Whenever we see a kindergarten besides Pink's, the injectors will most likely be colored according to the diamond that owns the kindergarten.
I really like the point you brought up about Peridot using Steven's tooth brush and developing ferro-kinesis. It would be very satisfying to know that Peridot developing those powers changes her from an Era 2 gem into the equivalent of an Era 1 gem. While I was banking more on a symbiotic relationship with Earth (becoming a defender and living more or less in harmony with the planet), that theory of Pink being part of creating gems is very compelling.
I still like the theory that it was Pink's "Shattering" that caused Era 2 Gems to be made purposefully without special powers and require equipment to do their jobs, equipment that could be shut down if these Gems ever stepped out of line.
I love how the closed captioning tries to guess what Awestruck Vox is saying because he talks so fast, lol. On this video it thought "Awestruck Vox" was "Monster Clogs".
This also explains how gems from either diamond harnesslike abilities like blue with water/empathy and yellow electricity/form destabilizing.
Another thing that would likely contribute to the resource crisis is the fact that they fought a civil war and lost. The Earth was not able to be used for its resources and they most likely made gems for the war meaning that they used more resources than they gained.

Peridot only got hit with a tiny amount of the likely diluted essence of Steven/Pink Diamond. If she developed powers from that, then Steven could extract his essence and give it to Era2 Gems to develop them fully.
This would make a lot of sense. It’s definitely something the diamonds HAVE to do and after PD shattered, Yellow closed off. She couldn’t be in the chamber they all were in together. She built her own. If it wasn’t necessary for the production of new gems, Yellow definitely wouldn’t be doing it.

OMG i never considered the peridot thing!!! I assumed that maybe since she had to depend on herself more without her limb enhancers that she just developed them out of necessity, or that she had them the entire time but homeworld wanted the new gems to have a dependence upon the rulers, and thus gave limb to create a sense of indebtedness. it'd be interesting if pink herself gave all gyms their powers like that, and why they changed after she left! cool cool
I have a theory pink diamond was made to amuse the diamonds.
If you take a look at her outfit it strongly resembles that of a jester's (I mean just look at those shoes lol), and when Yellow and Blue reminisce they both talk about how pink could make them laugh,(The best example is Blue's). To me this would make sense on why they never really took her serious, always treated her *as a joke*.
Their essence is the last piece which is why gems are loyal and share attributes of their diamond
Imagine gem type ( color) being the combination of diamond essence, so when there was no pink, certain gems can not be produced.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with this one. It could also explain why the Diamonds didn’t waste any time in using their extraction chamber shortly following Stevens arrival. Are we to assume that Blue and Yellow still have not spoken with White? If so then the resource crisis on Homeworld must be a lot more dire than I thought. Like ... Steven didn’t leave Earth with any intention of staying on Homeworld for a significant amount of time. And definitely not long enough to help repair Homeworld ...? Curing corruption on Earth might cost Steven fulfilling his duties as a Diamond first (and then hopefully over this time convincing White through intermittent meaningful run-ins from various Crystal Gems and classic Steven charm) ... lol

After the release of Familiar and finding out the a main role that Pink Diamond had on Homeworld was to host Balls for all the courts to boast about the other Diamonds accomplishments. Its canon that she knew how to juggle. Can we look back at her outfit? It looks just like a jester’s costume does it not? What if that was Pink’s role to be an entertainer to the other Diamonds to be that sense of praise that the Diamonds needed from an equal higher authority.
This must tie into the fact that Steven made the watermelons grow and they started their own little village or 'colony'.
Pretty sure Steven's tear brought the pebble to life and not his sweat. The colour is different from his usual pinkish sweat, and we see it roll through his cheek first. Plus it makes no sense for him to sweat during the song Familiar, but given the emotional impact he's going through and how much he's connecting to his mom, it'd make perfect sense for him to tear up.

perhaps its a combination of both natural resources being depleted due to excessive kindergardening, requiring the diamonds to use extraction chambers to create homeworld gems, and with pink diamond gone they didn't have enough homeworld resources to produce high quality gems anymore.
Yes i've always thought that pink residue inside the injectors came from pink, I think pink will probably have an extraction chamber too...maybe that's what they need to power homeworld or maybe all the fluid/sweat/ whatever goes to white
Peridot getting her metal powers from Steven's saliva would also explain why Pearl has a weapon (Pearls aren't supposed to fight) She could have kissed Rose or something and then got her spear, it would also explain why she used real actual swords at the start of the rebellion !
