  • Adam looks at how you can use Power BI Apps as a consumer of dashboards and reports. Power BI Apps are the main way that dashboards and reports are distributed widely in your organization.

    Great rundown Adam, I normally share workspaces especially if I wanted some of my users to have the ability to share the workspace access around. This app feature seems pretty good for consumption purposes, I'll have a think about how I can use this in the future!

    Thanks Adam, is there a way to turn off analyse in excel and disable access to the underlying dataset?
    I really like both features its just sometimes there are scenarios where we would only like users to consume aggregate data as shown in the reports/dashboard
    (some scenarios: to control privacy issues/ confidentiality issues/competition laws)

    Can an app consumers analyze the dataset in Excel directly? Like they can when they are workspace members?

    Hi Adam, great video. What I do not understand yet: can I make more apps in one workspace to share with different groups of people ?

    Yo Adam! I thought Apps would hide or protect access to the datasets but you showed them. I’m trying to protect data that can be shown at an aggregate level but sensitive at at toe level. Does an App protect that way? If I get a bonus question, is the “Export” feature available in Apps? Thank you guys!

    Hi Adam,
    1 quick question about my understanding, APP are always read only to all users I have publish App. So when edit report option is enable?

    Great video! Just have one question. How data is refreshed in APPS for user. Suppose my reports are connected to Azure SQL.

    I still am not understanding who can edit reports. I want to produce reports that consumers can NOT edit or change. This seems to be very challenging.

    Question, lets say i created a welcome page on one report that contains multiple pictures that act as bookmarks to other reports on the APP. now, lets say i finished loading those other reports to the app. is there a way to link those pictures (bookmarks from the Welcome page) to the other reports on the app so that when i click on one of those pictures, its just takes me to that specified report on the app?

    I have my data in MongoDB(on the cloud) and I have created a report from that. I want it to update automatically without gateway(no need of a laptop to be ON at that time like in Azure SQL Database). So What step I should follow. Please guide me. Currently, I am Using R script for data so it required a local gateway.

    Hi and thanks!
    Adam, is it possible to share app/reports/dashboards without sharing underlying datasets? E.g. just publish reports and dashboards and leaving the dataset invisible to the end-user?

      im curious, are you going to managing security,
      so you dont want the consumer look deep in to the original data model?

    • @ramarram1237
      @ramarram1237 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep the data model & reports in different workspaces. Give the access only to report workspace

    Hey guys, I need help. I have 100 rows of data and 4 columns: Country, City, Year (only 3 2016,17 and 18) and Sales.
    When I using matrix in power bi with columns for the year, Country and City for the rows.
    1. How can organize the data for a espeficic year (2017) like in pivot table in Excel? Because in power bi only have the opción sort by year.
    2. I'm also using condicional bar format for the data but the 3 years have the same color. How use a different for each year. In the matrix of course.
    Thanks

    Can you access PowerBI apps on mobile device? what's the best way to access powerbi reports by mobile users/devices?

    Thank You Adam for this. I was precisely wondering today what was the end-user like in the Power BI service.
    I have another question. What happened if an end-user wants to create his own dashboard pinning tiles from different reports in one single app or several apps? Where that dashboard would be visible in the Power BI service?
    Thank you for your insights.

    In case you're the app admin, you'll have to add users to the workspace first, then add them to the app when you're publishing it, then add give them access to the underlying datasets... I mean we need a fourth step.
    Microsoft need to find a solution to this

    For a published App, if the underlying data is scheduled and refresh. Should the App be updated manually or the data in the published App is automatically refreshed??

    • @GuyInACube
      @GuyInACube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The data will be updated automatically. Changes to the report need to be manually updated by updating the app. The thing to consider is if you have a schema change and then update the Report to accommodate, you could break the published app if you don't update it.

    Hi, I have multiple clients that have the same software and we are wanting to create a report pack/app and sell it to these clients. obivously they will have their own data to connect to on their own server. the data is sql based.
    How would I be able to create an app or workspace to be able to do this.

      Check out Template Apps. This allows you to publish an App to AppSource. docs.microsoft.com/power-bi/service-template-apps-overview

    Hey Adam, I generally create a single dataset & then create multiple reports from this single dataset for different consumers with different requirements. Bonus being that a single update refreshes a number of my customers reports in one hit ....
    However, when I look at Apps, I seem to be able to only create 1 app per workspace, whereas I would like to create multiple apps for a single workspace & tailor the contents depending on my consumer group..
    can you create more than one app per workspace? am I just being a bit dumb?
    Thanks, Andi

    Hello! Can we create more then 1 app for workspace? If yes, how can we do that? Thanks.

    • @GuyInACube
      @GuyInACube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can only have 1 app per App Workspace. If you want another app, you'd have to spin up another App Workspace. With the recent addition of shared datasets, it makes this a bit easier as you can keep the dataset in one workspace and create reports in different workspaces to give a different App feel.
