Bookmarks can give that 'application' feeling and are super easy to use. Thanks for sharing this Adam. I learned one can group bookmarks. That was new to me. Also, I've noticed it helps in your productivity to 1. Name each object in the selection pane from the start. It comes back throughout the entire development process. 2. Group items that belong together and base your bookmark state on the groups. This also makes it easy to add new items to a group without the need to change the bookmarks. Keep crushing it! BI Gorilla
Thank you! I was going crazy, trying to update someone else's bookmarks and hadn't noticed that All Visuals was selected. Going to go and watch all your other videos now.
The all visuals vs selected visuals is so useful. I can toggle between my 3 buttons of %growth, abs growth & total without it affecting the rest of the page. Thank you for this, especially the select before doing the update tip :)
Started using the 'Selected Visuals' option since recently after you talked about it in an earlier video. It's a fantastic way to limit the number of visuals on a page or the need for different reportpages and give the users indeed that 'app-like' feeling. So, thanks for (all) your videos. They sure do help in taking my Power BI report to the next level.
I have spent two days to make a complicated dashboard with many bookmarks like you show at the end of the video. With this video ı learned more things about bookmarks .
I just wanted give huge thank you for your amazing video on bookmarks. I've been struggling to wrap my head around them, but your explanation made everything click! Not only did I finally understand how to use bookmarks, but I was able to create an interactive dashboard that completely wowed my co-workers. Your content is always top-notch and incredibly helpful.
Just really started using bookmarks in more complex reports recently and this video has given me plenty of ideas. Thankyou keep the videos coming please 👍🏽
Perfect timing on this video. Was working on a report today and ran into the issue with the slicer panel reverting a swapped visual to the default state. Now I can clean that up nice and easy!
Thanks Adam for making this video I am working on 120 bookmarks and the requirement is changing frequently and I am actually going nuts in managing bookmarks with new additions pouring in.
Hi there! Thank you for all the great videos! We use a lot of bookmarks, because we have to deal with a lot of requests and specific views, however I was really looking for something which I can't make right now. Is there a possibility to have a bookmark acting on multiple pages? or 2 bookmarks sync to each other? Any suggestion workaround is appreciated! Thank you, Pamela
Excellent explanation of the complexity (and power) of bookmarks. I love them, but have often overwhelmed myself. Knowing the details will help me avoid making more than I need.
Thanks for this, Adam. The 'Current Page' option name doesn't make any sense (to me, anyway - I guess that is why I have always struggled to understand what it actually does), but I can't think of an alternative name that could be used.
I was today years old when I learned that clicking on the word "Bookmark" collapses it like Visualizations and Fields?!?!?!...how could I not have known that after using PBI for soooo long...Thanks for that btw ;-)
Really took a lot of time to learn this. Video is great. But to remember and understand is difficult for the first time especially the ALL Visuals and SELECTED Visuals.
Thanks SO much Adam!! This video helped me solve several issues, one major issue being when we would click a button/bookmark, all other slicers/visuals would reset.. was such a major pain point for my team. I never understood why "Selected visuals" wasn't working for me.. then it CLICKED (pun intended :) )! And I LOVE the tip to only collapse but not close bookmarks/selections, I was constantly closing/opening these panels! Thank you @Markbdi!! BANANAS
So I am definitely down the rabbit hole of learning bookmarks and this is fantastic! Can anyone help me with how to keep the selections on the slicer panel when you switch from bookmark to bookmark?
That's all great. However, I've created and published a report so it now falls under Power BI service; this report pulls info from a live document which lives in SharePoint. I need to update it with some bookmarks. Creating bookmarks is a bit cumbersome to do. Are there any videos on how to do this effectively using Power BI Service?
Thanks for the video! I've used bookmarks but didn't know about All visuals / Selected visuals... Great idea to apply bookmarks to create a slicer panel! :)
Great job Adam! thanks for this wonderful video. I am currently working with on report with multiple visuals. I use Toggle with the bookmarks. I am having trouble selecting multiple (2 or more) toggles at the same time and bookmarked them, bookmarks defaults to a single toggle selection. Do you have any recommended way or resource to fix this?
OK not quite, I'd like to have different Hierarchy levels attached to my bookmarks so my users can jump to each level as they so feel (I have 5 levels) now I currently have the data switched off as the data that is being filtered needs to be dynamic and the only way to get the hierarchy levels maintained is by having data switched on. Am I missing something? as
thanks so much for this video... in special the part about Only selected visuals.. thats tricky to get but now I think I made it work and it is very powerfull!
Thanks! Is there a way to save a bookmark-design (for a page-navigation or filter-panel) which you can use on every page? Just copy page and bookmark is related to the copied page? We are creating a new report-design for our company and struggeling how to set up an report template which already contains page navigation, filter panel, footline (openable) etc. Thanks!
Great video, thank you! I'm using bookmarks to switch between times series and bar. If I click on eg Jan in time series and then click on bar chart bookmark, how do I only see data for Jan ?
Damn, this would've come in handy 2 weeks ago. I created a report page that has multiple toggles: toggle between units and dollars. And toggle the line chart between weekly and cumulative sales (for both units and dollars, so 4 line charts are in use!) It was a pain to get every visual to work the way it's supposed to, but after watching this video I have a couple of ideas on how to simplify that process in the future. Thanks!
Coming from Qliksense, Power BI seems to lacking a few things .. such as multiple actions per button (filter and then show a new page in one button). Some of the quirky stuff like clicking the name instead of the X makes the product look immature. I'm still learning all the quirks, thanks for the video
I Have applied your idea of swap visuals in my PBI dashboard in summary report for management view and I want to share my appreciation with you guys, thank you.just one request please think about if you can brainstorm about the swap visuals working with Slicer s somehow
Hi very great video, i'm wondering how can i share my bookmark when i'm using Power BI online. My business wants to share with me a situation and it's more easy to use a personal bookmark
I like to use bookmarks as much as i can because i feel like it makes my report more professional, unfortunately i see one huge drawback and that is when i select a section of pie chart for it to interact with the rest of the visuals it is only limited to the current shown bookmark, as soon as i switch bookmarks the selection of pie chart is gone.
Is there a way to save some of these behaviors to be the default so every new selection view you make defaults to selected visuals instead of all visuals?
It would be interesting for me to discuss the effect of bookmarks on interaction editing. From what I noticed, bookmarks do not preserve the interaction between visualizations. Or maybe I missed something?
Thnks Adam. Is it possible to change visual rows with Bookmarks?. I mean, can i have a bookmark navigator button that shows especific visual with line headers like year, client, product and another bookmark button to show the same visual but with client, year, product line headers ?. I can do it having a copy of the visual and hiding or showing the correspondent layout for the button selection, but it's a tedious workaround.
If you have data that is on a rolling 13 month period and you wanted to bookmark a report specific date but over time some of that data drops off as it moves forward, will the bookmark still work? I guess what I am asking, does the data need to exist in the table to recreate that bookmark? Or does it take a snapshot of the data at the time of creating it?
Hi Adam, how did you set up the info image at 10:34? How did you control the size of the image to fit in with the background visuals and also the background transparency?
Is there a way I can have visuals affected by the buttons? Ie: I click my "Net Units" button, and then the "Actuals", I get sales data for this year only. Then, I click "Vs "LY" and it changes to how my sales are doing vs last year. Then repeat this for Gross Margin $, Gross Margin % and Net Sales?
How to stop the interaction between the bookmarks? Eg - Say I've got 2 separate visuals each one of them are having different bookmarks, now the issue is if I select 3rd bookmark on the 1st visual and 2nd bookmark on the 2nd visual, then the 1st visual automatically gets reset and shows the data within its 1st bookmark. Is there a way to handle this? Essentially, I don't want my bookmarks for either of the visuals to interact with each other.
Is it possible to set up a various bookmarks at various pages of a same worksheet in powerbi??? Bcoz everytime I am using bookmark it's counting on a single page bookmark list 😅 I want it separate! How to do it ?
It would be nice to have "Not Selected Visuals" as an option. I have more than 30 visuals on page (half of them are hidden under Tabs), it is tricky to select them and click Update bookmark
Can you do the "Selected Visuals" option across multiple pages? Example would be if you have a few pages with a slicer panel like that and you want the slicer panel to stay showing even if they navigate to a second page.
great video. A challenge that has not been discussed is what if you are taking over from another developer a power bi where book mark is heavily used with "selected visual" - many of them hidden filters !!! is this a nightmare situation? How can you identify which visuals are effected by a book mark with "selected visuals" ticked ? I can handle complex dax but maybe not when the power bi is made up of complex bookmarks !!
sorry, any update for 2023? try to connect the button with the bookmark I created but doesn't work but I try in the bookmark itself its working well. already followed steps how to connect [button -> action/bookmark/bookmark name] please advise
Regarding the hide and show filters menu, is there a way to have a filter dropdown instead of a list? I tried that but when the menu pops up it changes the filter dropdown to a list.
Wow. So much content in such a short time. I’m new. I’ve been doing QlikView for years and am transitioning apps to Power Bi (argh). I can’t find a way to give users a direct path to a specific view/layout/selections. We could embed bookmarks in the url for our QV apps. I can’t find a way to do that with PBi. Any suggestions?
Hi Mister! Interesting video title. Unfortunately the access to demo file doesnt work, there is no email in my account or an option to download pbix.file. Can you please fix? Withouth this, information are muss less useful

I tried toggling off "data" but now it does not refesh the datA in the group. Is there a workaround for this?
I have a scenario where I need to use two date slicers and when I switch between the slicers I only want the selection from the current visible slicer to filter my visual
Been a PowerBI user for a few years and I've just done my first report using bookmarks and I'm a big fan, although I can see things getting a bit complicated! Does anyone know if you can pass a bookmark to a report using a URL in the same way that you can with filters? That would be a game changer for me if it's possible.
I'm running into an issue with the Selected Visuals bookmark control. I'm trying to keep a slicer value the same, but change the data (and filters) with a couple of bookmarks. I've used the Selected Visuals option on both of my bookmarks and selected all of the visuals except for the slicer. The slicer value remains unchanged as it should, but the filters are not being saved with the bookmarks. I do have Data selected in the bookmark options for both bookmarks. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?
Thanks for sharing this video Adam, I've learned so much from you, one question. can we change the size of a chart using bookmarks or not? or for example change the location of a card in the report using bookmarks? thanks again.
i guess u can, the card or the chart don't change it's size or the color, u just create a bookmark for the chart and the card in the original size , create a bookmark call the bookmark 'original size' for example, and then create a new bookmark for the objects with the other size u need, and then in the selection panel u can hide the objects with the second size when the first bookmark is selected, do the same for the second bookmark, hide the first size object's when the second bookmark is selected.
Hi Mr. Adam, Do you have a technique or solution on how to use DAX or any other method using a button with bookmarks to SELECT as a default the first record in a table visual in PBI. And I mean whenever the end-user opens the page by default the first record on the first table visual will be selected. I have a table visual with a list of names with a add_date on the first column and want to make sure that when the user opens this page in PBI the first row is selected. I love your clarity and way of explaining things on technical solutions. Hope to hear from you and hope to find the best solution possible with your awesome help "a big fan of Guys in Cube" J
Adam, I kept on viewing this awesome video to understand the bookmarks behavior and have applied this technique to my bookmarks but the problem is that it doesn't preserve the selection of the first record in my table visual even if I select the visual as you explain it here. Hope to hear from you. Thanks so much!!
Bookmarks are my go-to for taking my reports to the next level. They make everything so intuitive and clean.

+1 on grouping items. Makes things easier to set up and maintain. Thanks for the suggestion!

oh god, this is so good. thank you
Absolute GOLD!
Hey Adam, is there a way to have cross-filtering between two visuals that are in two different bookmarks?. Thanks for your help.
Well done on not mashing your lines when you were busy show/hide triangles/circles :)
Useful. Thank you.
Hi Mister!
Interesting video title. Unfortunately the access to demo file doesnt work, there is no email in my account or an option to download pbix.file. Can you please fix? Withouth this, information are muss less useful
I don't know that we can do these many combinations. Also this improves performance.
A lot Helpful!
Thanks for sharing your video. I have an issue where I hope you can help. I have a Matrix of KPI's that I want to show the graphs associated with the indicator. For this, I created a panel with a group of charts. I want the user to be able to show or hide the panel so for this I created bookmarks for show/hide panel. My problem is witht the state of the panel. when I click button to show the chart group, it reverts back to the original slicer I had when I created the bookmark. I tried toggling off "data" but now it does not refesh the datA in the group. Is there a workaround for this?
Is there a way to print all the bookmark views?
I have a scenario where I need to use two date slicers and when I switch between the slicers I only want the selection from the current visible slicer to filter my visual

Absolutely amazing! Great ideas AND I finally understand what those options do! Great job.
One week from now, you all gonna be bookmark preachers.
I love them, so handy
Been a PowerBI user for a few years and I've just done my first report using bookmarks and I'm a big fan, although I can see things getting a bit complicated! Awesome explanation
Bookmarks are great, thank you!
I'm running into an issue with the Selected Visuals bookmark control. I'm trying to keep a slicer value the same, but change the data (and filters) with a couple of bookmarks. The slicer value remains unchanged as it should, but the filters are not being saved with the bookmarks. I do have Data selected in the bookmark options for both bookmarks. Great video! Very very useful!
Thanks a lot, Adam.
When I change report name and publish to service...end-users' bookmarks no longer work. How to resolve this?
Hi Mr. Adam,
Do you have a technique or solution on how to use DAX or any other method using a button with bookmarks to SELECT as a default the first record in a table visual in PBI. And I mean whenever the end-user opens the page by default the first record on the first table visual will be selected.
I have a table visual with a list of names with a add_date on the first column and want to make sure that when the user opens this page in PBI the first row is selected.
I love your clarity and way of explaining things on technical solutions.
Hope to hear from you and hope to find the best solution possible with your awesome help

Adam,
I kept on viewing this awesome video to understand the bookmarks behavior and have applied this technique to my bookmarks but the problem is that it doesn't preserve the selection of the first record in my table visual even if I select the visual as you explain it here.
Hope to hear from you.
Thanks so much!!
My bookmark also removes the "Filters on this page" in the filters pane. Is there a way to work around this?
