- It's exhilarating to paint large canvases, but there's a real pleasure in painting on a small scale too. I paint a few of these 'mini originals' mixed media pieces every month and I find them very relaxing and satisfying to do.
I am planning to create a comprehensive step-by-step online course on this technique at the end of the year, but in the meantime here is a glimpse into some of the process. Hope you enjoy!
* ps - Farley is my dog!! I tried to add a clip of him reclining on his studio pillow but it kept glitching... I'm sure that he will make an appearance in a future video!*
That’s such a gorgeous piece, so complex under the simplicity!
I would love to hear more about how you work with photography. I came to art very very slowly via photography because i cant draw to save my life. Then started using that to make digital art, and just recently i could no longer resist actual analogue paint! So i have a huge archive of photos that i’d love to incorporate somehow.
Thank you! I love incorporating photography with paint, and I'm making a short video about that at the moment which I will upload to youtube this week.
I also am planning to make a comprehensive step-by-step online course on how I make these minis to be launched later this year which you may be interested in.
You've truly impressed me-well done!
Thank you so much, I'm really glad that you enjoyed the video!
Delighted to see a new video from you - I binge watched all your others a few weeks ago! Lovely process and result. 👏👏👏
Thank you so much - that makes me so happy that you are enjoying the videos! 😊
fabulous Claire, looking forward to your online course , and your hair is looking great!!
Thanks Krissi! Always try to remember to give my hair a brush before starting a video 😂
Would love to do the course!
That's great! It will be later in the year. I'm planning on putting together a newsletter in the next week or two so the best thing would be to sign up to that to be among the first to know of any courses. I will put a link with my next video. Glad you're enjoying watching the process!
Brilliant! I can’t wait for the full course. At last year’s CVP party, of all the artists showcased, you and Amy Brakeman Livesey were the two whose techniques seemed nearest to what I’m aiming to do. Now you are planning a course and Amy is one of the tutors on this year’s CVP - perfect!
Hi there and thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love Amy Brakeman Livesey's work too!! Her work really grabbed my attention when I first became aware of A2L, I find it very inspiring, both the subject matter and her techniques. Really glad that you enjoyed the video and I hope you'll enjoy the course too later in the year. Thank you!
Fabulous. Really enjoyed watching you work.
Thank you so much Phillipa 😊
Thank you for sharing your process! I got some great tips. What kind of paper do you use?
Thank you, I'm really glad that you're enjoying the videos! For these minis I use heavy cartridge paper (220gsm)
Beautiful! But how did the photo transfer happen? You had printed it on...mylar? Laser print I assume? And then what was done?
Hi, thank you for your comment. I had the photographic image printed on an acetate sheet which I used throughout the process just for reference, so that I’d be able to line up exactly where to print the image. On larger works I make transfers, but for these minis on paper I print the photographic image digitally. This process has various steps which I may cover in a future video. Hope this helps!
