To me the whole point of this song by the original artist, was the unusual and comical sounding, intonation of his singing of the words. Only the original Steve Harley version works for me.
Yeah their arrangement was the most innovative. 1st half more accapella and strings then went full on. Way more interesting than the Wedding Presents version as well.
I love the original. Erasure is one of the greatest techo-pop artists ever, but their many covers have never really been as great as the originals, even their ABBA covers. They should stick to their brilliant originals, and let other bands cover them
I think it's a really good cover, made in their trademark style. Also love their other covers on Other People's Songs such as I Can't Help Falling In Love With You, Goodnight, etc.
Always liked the song but hated the original vocals. Didn't know Erasure had covered it until recently and it seems quite a hard song to sing but I think Andy does a better job than Steve. :)
