    As always I loved your video and I was so excited when the track came. I was amazed how fast and easy the track goes together . I'm so looking forward to watching the trains go around our city. I never knew how much work goes into making a track layout. You're working on 2 levels here and our Christmas train layout wow can't wait for all of them to be running. Again great job on your video and love you honey 💕.

    Thank You for your videos, Mr. Page. Nice box that came in the mail.
    The turnouts are suppose to come with 2 angle adapter tracks, a left and a right. That way you can put it on either the straight track or the turn track. Then you can put a regular piece on the other track. A thing I found out about Kato switches, my train sometimes derails when making the turn right after a curve. I put the smallest piece they make between the curve and the turnout and that helps a lot.

    • @brianpagemodeltrains
      @brianpagemodeltrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good idea! I only have one #4 turnout with tight curves, but it's for a slow moving spur, so I've had good luck so far. I custom cut the short piece so I could get the two tracks closer together, and it's working ok - I wasn't able to use the angle adapters because they were too long. But it all worked out - Thanks!

    • @brianpagemodeltrains
      @brianpagemodeltrains  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't made much progress on the main layout yet. The blueprint came from Anyrail, a program for making layouts. I designed the layout, then printed it on regular pieces of paper and taped them together. Nice thing is, with programs like Anyrail, you can always go back in and change something if needed.

    Ah Brian, what it is to waste time on Utube. Anyway, channels like yours are a help for those of us who are looking for the least painful methods of track laying. I wonder if folk are being to 'literalistic' with their interpretation of set geometry track. They are an aid, not a prescription. Bear in mind I am the kind of nuisance who could buy an etched metal kit and respecify half of it - I suspect the approach most kit designers would approve of. Thinking a lot recently lately of home made transition for easing into and out of set geometry curves, and in your case here, a piece of home made for that difficulty you had. Of course most of these things could be made in a few minutes from appropriate rail sized flex track. There you are: the advantages of set geormetry track with fewer of the usual disadvantages.
    Incidentally, that 'Hart' rotor tool. Bought a 'Harp' points file for just a few dollars. Points files are great for preparing rail ends so as not to catch wheels.
    Enjoyed video; thanks for the effort.

    Wonderful again Brian, I am wondering if you would do a video on how exactly you did use the plastic selves for benchmark and how you secured the foam etc? It does seem like a good idea for my situation too so I thought I'd ask about what you learned and how you might do it again if you could? Love you channel and sense of humor too.

    • @brianpagemodeltrains
      @brianpagemodeltrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Lyndon. If I were to do this again, I might just make a bench out of plywood and 1x4s, the shelving was kind of a pain. It worked out in my case though. Thing is, it's not very realistic with shelving legs all through the track area. I put the plywood on the shelving with screws, then secured the foam onto the plywood with Liquid Nails Project. I used big tie-wraps around all the legs of the shelving to sturdy everything up. Hope that helps.

    Nice job, Brian! I had a similar experience with my Märklin C Track. AnyRails did not register that there was a special adapter piece with a removable edge for the same reason. Once I went to lay my track, I had the problem and had to get the adapter piece (rather than cut the piece I planned to use). Through my whole design off on one side of the table.

    @mrodtoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Brian, I enjoyed many of your previous videos. Thanks for the humor. I probably don't understand why you had to cut out the road bed. The #4 TO gives you two already and there are multiple ways to to configure the TO. You could have attached the cut out on the straight track. Also, have you considered making one of the straight tracks into a flex piece ? You can even cut them down to size which I did for one of my T-Trak modules spurs. I heard those extension pieces may be problematic. Keep those video posting!

    • @brianpagemodeltrains
      @brianpagemodeltrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great ideas, mrodtoo! There are different ways I could have tackled that issue, but since I only needed to get the two parallel tracks closer together, it seemed that cutting in that shorter piece was the easiest solution. It turned out to be only a 10 minute job.

    • @mrodtoo
      @mrodtoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brianpagemodeltrains So are you saying the track center needs to be smaller than 33mm? See the first example in this link of some diagrams: www.katousa.com/PDF/plans/N-plan-4-turnouts.pdf

    • @brianpagemodeltrains
      @brianpagemodeltrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrodtoo - In this case, Kato specs won't help me. The two tracks have to fit through the two bays of the Walthers Glacier Gravel company, and the bays are closer together than a standard two track setup. But thanks for the info!

    Hi like your video's.
    question ? I just bought a set of NEW Kato 11 car California zephyr 106-1055 with display track 2006 release . in the foam inner holder But Missing outside box. they are selling for upwards of $350.00 . on Ebay. will the Missing outside box cause it to be les desirable or worth less? looks Unused. And I want to sell it cause I don't have Kato Couplers. what is it worth?

    • @brianpagemodeltrains
      @brianpagemodeltrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm afraid I can't answer how much it's worth, I don't have any of that set. I know that a 6 unit set of Silver Streak cars runs about $250 on the Kato website. I'm curious though, if it's a new set, where's the box? I would have to say that if selling it to a collector, the box would make it worth more. But another option is if you want to keep the set, swap the couplers to what you use.
      Edit - I see the California Zephyr 106-055 set on Ebay, brand new in the box, and with the display track, $509.99, if that helps.

    • @itsmeray01
      @itsmeray01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Brian just got an idea from anotheryoutuber , just replacing one coupler on one end of one car, making it an "adapter" car? This car would be at the lead, couple to your loco(s), then the rest of the train would be behind it. @@brianpagemodeltrains
