There's a shape called "Bakudan" in Japan where one makes use of such an edge to the top where white black Black white 4 discs forms a 2 interior black disc for Black to take inner control while sacrificing (and nullifying the effects or benefits of having a corner). In that move to the x square on b2, Black's only risk is for White to take the corner which allows him to slot in at B1 and have 1 extra move to A2. That gain in 1 extra move in a close game of Othello is enough to create sufficient margins to kill off the game.
Can someone tell me why black played that move at 5:46? I dont see any unbalanced edge that he can attack? Thanks!
