Asia Pacific Othello Championship 2024 Day 2 - Closing Moments of the Final Decider Game 3
Yes the game can be hard sometimes. but as long as you're having, the good kind of fun, you will be fine.
Wow what a great closely matchup.
This is one of those cases where the computer makes the game more enjoyable-after all, who wants to keep flipping those 'oreos' over and over again?
Thank you for making these videos. I just got back into playing Othello board game with my family last year. I wasn't aware that there were competitions and so many different ways of playing at a competitive higher level. I have so much to learn. I suppose there are levels to every form of games.
@@jmory460 you are welcome, and yes, i try to make videos that i wished were made by previous world champions so i could peer more into their minds. The exhibition games also showcases some of the top players in the world :) hope most of these help!
@@OthelloAcademy Your video are helping me. I have to be honest, I have to rewatch your videos countless times because I dont understand the terms that you are using i.e. poison, parity, pairs. I feel like in my environment we were playing like caveman. grunt grunt baa baa ....discs lol.
hi alex, congrats on the 8th place in woc 2024. your channel helps me to understand the openings more , and helps me to select suitbale openings and moves that opponents easy to make mistakes. And exhibitions games are nice as i can learn from the thought process of strong players when they are thinking their moves.
@@kong1011 thank you, and that is great to hear that the channel helps :)
I like this channel its soooooooooo good
@@reversi.official thank you :)

I came here from the SiIvaGunner video but now I've started to play the game more! I played Othello a little as a kid but didn't think of taking it more seriously until now.
@@MeesterTweester sounds great :) all the best!
I don't understand why white lose the game. He almost win the game.
White was winning but gave up tempo in the midgame and lost the lead
goooooooodddd
To borrow an Othello term, you would have "poisoned" your relationship with your opponent if you didn't mention the clock
@@TrueLoner_ fair point :) but he actually encouraged me after the match to fully utilise any advantage i could get against him as it was according to the rules, but i had to tell him i guess
Should go under the openings playlist as a bonus episode! :)
@@shroomyfeelings great idea
Was hoping that this tournament would really popularize the game in China. Not sure if it did though
@@TrueLoner_ i think it did but the effect will be progressive
How far future are u looking through that u are taking such a defensive pattern black?
@@조셉-w2l typically i read 4 to 6 moves ahead when the game is unclear, but if lines are forced lines (meaning if i am winning a lot), i can read up to 10 to 20 moves
@OthelloAcademy wow, that's unbelivable!
It's unbelivable that even after 4 years you respond to a question asked 25 mins ago! I love this game
@Slidingtheicegrandmasters i do what i can :) glad to hear your love for the game
Good to see these analysis videos

I am impressed by these high level Othello players. I have so much to learn. Some moves I didn't understand initially but after watching this video, I am getting more understanding on objectives and strategies.
@@jmory460 good to hear!
Wow, this is some high level othello game play. I suppose the cliche is true. There are levels to this game.
awesome
30:49 why did black waited till now to put the piece there when he had the chance earlier I know if I had put it there the white would take the other corner but in the end white managed to get 2 corners
cant wait to see another one
@@siudeeeedeeee sure, will cover all my games :)
hello, im new player in othello, but i watched actually many channels about this game and im already knew this game is a big thing in Japan and i find Othellonia game but sadly i didnt find ANY eng. materials about this game, maybe im wrong? can you pls advice to me some eng channels blogs or any sort of info on english (btw im from russia lol) for Othellonia.. thx
For othellonia, i am only aware that Takanashi Yusuke has a channel that covers it in Japanese unfortunately. Have you tried to see if english subs on his videos may help?
@@OthelloAcademy english subs is fine. but problem is how to find videos or series of videos for beginners) i dont find any tutorial or smthn (maybe im typing smthn wrongly on wrong eng google translation) if you can help me and share with me with 1 beginner video this may help me a lot. and also my friends.

It's quite a shame that the Pakistani, Ivorian, Vietnamese and South Korean players did not arrive 😢

One wrong move kills the whole game.
Thanks for the cool video. I was surprised black did not control the bottom edge at the end of the game.
Please let the videos complete !! Additionally, last move white forgot to flip one piece......

White is great.
Thanks for posting this video. The finish board state is oddly symmetrical.
2 views thats actually just sad and unfair.
Maybe sad, not unfair
Too bad the video stopped, It would have been great to see the turns at the end of the game.

White gave it away
Hi alex, rule 9 seems to contradict the official (woc) rules..? More specifically case 4, where the non-first-default-player can still lose in your explanation.
Btw I prefer your version.
@@srepmub Jan did reach out to me to reflect the same, I believe I used this version based on Singapore drafted rules once but it seems the WOF based rules make more sense. It would not be right for the non defaulting player to get extra 2 minutes to find a better than 33-31 position (maybe). But I did think since the defaulting player was given extra 2 minutes to try not to lose by a score worse than 33-31, maybe the non defaulting player should also be given the same. WOF rules are cleaner but in actual practice for Singapore (and HK/Taiwan tournaments), it seems most of us just adapt a 0-64 rule once we time out first time round (usually due to venue or schedule constraints). Thanks for pointing it out though!
👍
good competition :) thanks for sharing
