This will really help me beat my dad!
So close!

time trouble
One wrong move kills the whole game.
Thanks for the cool video. I was surprised black did not control the bottom edge at the end of the game.
Please let the videos complete !! Additionally, last move white forgot to flip one piece......
@@sgrass471 apologies, it was due to unexpected lack of memory or battery for the filming device for some of these cases, next one should be good
Please stop posting videos until the technical issues are repaired.
@@chrisfell2621 much apologies for the incomplete video due to battery or device issues
White is great.
Thanks for posting this video. The finish board state is oddly symmetrical.
2 views thats actually just sad and unfair.
Maybe sad, not unfair
Too bad the video stopped, It would have been great to see the turns at the end of the game.
bu oyun alanına nasıl sahip olabiliriz. Türkiye de satışı yok
💯
White gave it away
Hi alex, rule 9 seems to contradict the official (woc) rules..? More specifically case 4, where the non-first-default-player can still lose in your explanation.
Btw I prefer your version.
@@srepmub Jan did reach out to me to reflect the same, I believe I used this version based on Singapore drafted rules once but it seems the WOF based rules make more sense. It would not be right for the non defaulting player to get extra 2 minutes to find a better than 33-31 position (maybe). But I did think since the defaulting player was given extra 2 minutes to try not to lose by a score worse than 33-31, maybe the non defaulting player should also be given the same. WOF rules are cleaner but in actual practice for Singapore (and HK/Taiwan tournaments), it seems most of us just adapt a 0-64 rule once we time out first time round (usually due to venue or schedule constraints). Thanks for pointing it out though!
👍
good competition :) thanks for sharing
Cool thanks for posting
7:41 In the word "perpendicular", the emphasis should be on the third syllable.
What about the rest of the game ?
We'll get to that ASAP
Unfortunately, handphone battery died midway through the game...
Great! At 3:10 if black had taken G2 (assuming timers as North) could he have turned the game around earlier by forcing white to take H1 or H2, either way giving Black H1 or H2 and being able to steal the South and East edges?
從很早之前就開始看主播的教學,但是英文不太好有許多地方聽不懂,之後面就比較少看。現在終於有中文了 太感謝啦!
@@thomaskeith4407 谢谢支持,希望大家不嫌弃我那粗糙的中文
Isn't it quite arrogant to start with a -6 opening ?
@@BrunoKoob66 it actually might be -8 but everyone plays opening with the understanding of the risk vs return of each opening i guess...its actually a very high risk opening...
Where can I see the results of the game?
Check out www.flipthedisc.com or www.liveothello.com
thats not how this game works ...
For sure, but the flipping technique is an essential part of the game and most top players are able to flip fast.
@@OthelloAcademy thats why i play online
It looked like white won but he timed out. Does that mean that black won instead? What are the rules for when someone times out?
There are usually 2 scenarios when someone times out depending on the specific tournament rules. Most Singapore tournaments employ an immediate loss of 0-64 once you time out, but World Othello Championships do allow you to complete your game with 2 additional minutes on the clock with the expectation that you will lose 31-33 in the best case scenario that you end up with 31 or more discs once the game is completed. If the final score upon game completion is 21-43 in favour of your opponent, then the final score will stand in favour of your opponent who has not timed out first. More details can be found in my "Standard Othello Tournament Rules" video. Cheers.
@@OthelloAcademy So, there is no case where you run out of time but are still able to win right?
@@alecaquino4306 for the world championship, if opponent purposely runs out of his time once after you run out of time first, and if he runs out of his additional 2 minutes given to him, he would lose 0-64 against you instead. Given he is already guaranteed a win regardless of board score once you time out once, there is no reason for him to time out twice.
Long live Othello.

Well done!!
White player is looking more noob than me😅😅
very decisive corner sacrifice, black had all the initiative after that, really was able to wittle down white's options via continuing to reduce mobility, clean winning sequence too. white made a good attempt at countering with a corner sacrifice of their own but that finish from black was just clinical.
i wish there was a knowledged commentary to the game :(
Hehe i wish i had more time to do that for you too, but do check out the exhibition games, those are designed to have the pros think through their moves aloud.
This is oddly satisfying to watch
Thank you :)
No worries. I kinda stumbled upon your video randomly, and I was surprised by how almost relaxing it was.

@@OthelloAcademy 謝謝
I tried this and ended up losing 3 games in a row from running out of pieces
Yeah, went back to focusing on capturing the sides and started dominating again
That is because you may not have complete mastery over mobility (minimisation still requires key disc or position control otherwise you may get wiped out), but capturing sides could also be controlling mobility. The differences can be a bit nuanced and subjected to players skill. If edge play works for you better, definitely use edge play. Dominate could be subjective in terms of levels though. The experimentation in different approaches should be an ongoing procesd for everyone, so whatever works for you :)
@@OthelloAcademy yeah, I'm getting better at it the more I practice
