    RULES:
    The rules are the same as regular sovereign chess, except for these changes.
    The object of this 4 player version of sovereign chess, is to have the last king remaining. Setup white and black across from each other and ash and slate across from each other with all the queens on the light spaces. On the outside ring, beginning next to white’s rook and proceeding clockwise, the order of the colored pieces is as follows: knight, rook, bishop, queen, rook, bishop, queen. The color sequence around the board goes: pink, red, yellow, green, light blue, purple, yellow, orange, pink, purple, dark blue, green. The next ring in, in the corners: place knights orange, dark blue, red, light blue. Place pawns of matching colors adjacent to the knights. In the remaining empty spaces, place pawns that match the color of the adjacent outside space.
    Randomly assign players colors. White goes first, then ash, then slate, then black. Players retain this turn order throughout the game even if their colors change. There is no checkmate, instead kings are captured. Kings are allowed to move into check and through check while castling. Players are not obligated to moving their king out of check if they don’t want to, but players must announce check at the end of their turn if they check another player or move their own king into check. There should be no “surprise” captures of kings due to unannounced threats or accidental moves.
    When your king is captured, you are not eliminated from the game but instead continue playing as normal. You are allowed to promote a pawn to a king and thus regain the ability to win the game. You are only eliminated from the game when you have no pieces remaining to move.
    If you are in a situation where you have no legal move and your king is not in check, then you are temporarily stalemated and your king is removed from the board. If you are unable to generate a new king before the end of the game, they you are considered to have tied for that game. If you do generate a new king, then you regain the ability to win and lose.
    The game ends when only 1 king remains, then that player is the winner.

    If I had the time and incredible willpower to do so, I would make a chess royale game with the following features;
    - duck chess (but there are 3 ducks instead of 1)
    - space chess (but there are five layers)
    - sovereign royale
    - 5D Multiverse Time Travel (space layers count as a 3rd dimension of movement in inter-board motion)

      I mean, the colors go lightest to darkest, so I think that makes sense. But I agree the fact that it doesn't just go clockwise or counterclockwise is odd.

    2:03 I asked some rules questions on BGG about situations like stalemated kings, and I think there is an error here.
    First of all, the player having no move to make to avoid the king being captured (because according to the 2 player basic game rules of Sovereign Chess, the king would otherwise be in check) may still put the king into check according to the rules of this Royale variant, otherwise it would contradict these rules. However, when the rule was explained by the designer on BGG, he said that the player MAY claim a stalemated king if the player has no move to make with any piece to avoid the king being captured. So, in this situation the player can choose to either move the king into check and allow it to be captured, or to claim the stalemate. Either way the king is removed from the board.
    Second, allthough this wasn't explained (clearly) by the designer, I don't think that the player lost the 'right' to lose the game if all of their other pieces have been captured after the king is claimed to be stalemated. I'm pretty sure this must still cause the game to lose, otherwise the player could just refuse to let one of their pawns promote to a new king in order to garantee being tied. My guess is that ONLY if the game ends BEFORE all the player's pieces are captured after a king has been stalemated, the player is considered to draw the game, and that otherwise the player still loses. They just don't have the right to win the game without a king.
    And finally, I wonder, if the game ends after a king has been stalemated but before all other pieces have been captured, whether the player is the only one who is considered to draw the game, or if the game is a full draw for everyone (including initially eliminated players).
