    Good read:
Good vid, nice truck work. Our sop was scba's all the time, after the first few hundred working jobs ya get use too em.
Anyway, PFD is a real good FD. I always liked their operations, especially when throwing BIG water, they get the job done.
I listened to the Gallery fire on the scanner waaaay back when that came in. Very impressed, cool heads and great fire ops prevail!
Suggestion on the venting cuts, make a 5th and 6th cut diagonal across the top corners, say about a foot from the corner, so you can get your roof hook or pry/pulling tools into the vent hole then yank your ass off. This eliminates tools getting pinched and stuck in the saw cuts and gives you a great starting point. I was the originator of this method.
Also, if ya gotta open up fast for a rescue op, do the 'jalousie cuts' along the roof rafters. Top cut first say 6 to 8ft long at least, then side cuts down parallel to the rafters about a foot and a half to two feet apart from each other to the opposite end, then make your bottom cut.
Starting at one end, take you hook and axes and beat down on one side of each cutout, the piece should swing down like a jalousy window pivoting on the nails (center pivot), then just go down the line till you got em all open. Its pretty fast and you don't have to rip out the roof covering. Just make sure you make the hole cut BIG.
We would do our cuts at least 6 to 8ft across and at least 4 ft down, the bigger the building the bigger the cut. The place is already damaged by fire and smoke so its no big deal if you make a 'Grand Canyon', the Engine and Rescue guys will love ya for it!

I damn sure wouldn't be sticking my head off the roof into heavy smoke from a vented window without an SCBA! But I've heard that Philthadelphia makes people do crazy things!

Yeah, they got the fire to spread and flow all the way up to the cockloft. Screwed up the roof nice too. Not to mention the unnecessarily risk of climbing on the roof of a burning building.

PFD is one of the best departments on the planet . And that’s not my opinion that’s a fact and I speak through experience. But I don’t like how a lot of these guys who see a lot of work don’t pack up . I get it , the do this shit EVERY SINGLE DAY . They could do this I. Their sleep , but you’re not invincible. Stay safe ladies and gentlemen of the PFD

Pretty interesting how it seems standard practice that so many guys are getting off the truck and going to work without an air pack.

Can't see very well on the roof w/ an SCBA. Stay out of if as much as possible. Many depts don't use them on roofs due to safety concerns.

@@chuckman231 I would rather have my vision slightly impaired than have a roof collapse and be stuck in a fire without a pack but i definitely understand the reasoning

I definitely can’t argue what you’re saying . Nobody can . But those row homes have so many different types of roofs . Nothing is routine up there . They even have a lot of work done up there that was never done by code or inspected so it’s impossible to know exactly what you’re dealing with . So to a point I can understand that they don’t want to wear a mask because it does restrict vision and fogs . But dam at least have it on with the mask already attached and the bottle on . Like you said I don’t want to go through the roof but if I did I would want a pack on . A lot of these guys just see so much work they become complacent.
