Hi YT Friends! Happy Gardening ~ April '24 back yard tour: th-cam.com/video/sBGyiwUl9FE/w-d-xo.html I am grateful for your visit! Since you liked this video, you may appreciate a tour of my entire back yard.
I'm in Ireland and took a chance on growing these this year, I started them in trays and after a couple of weeks being patient gave up and emptied out the trays to re use for something else and found a single solitary seedling buried beneath the waste. I quickly potted it up and even though it's pretty small it has come along well in the recent warm spell. At least I think it's Cleome ha, the fun of gardening. I'll be so happy if it is and produces flowers. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hey, I've just been gifted a pack of cleome seeds, I just found you whilst researching the seeds and you posted a video earlier today about cleomes. I will be following you from now on.
Do you plant Alliums in your garden? Would like to see a video on them I live in St Kitts in the Caribbean. Can I grow them here and when should I plant them.
Hello! I have had alliums for about 7 years, but they haven’t flowered for me! I am unsure if you can grow them, but everything is worth a try, right?!
Hey Linda. I’ve seen you comment on a few of these videos. I suggest that you figure out what your growing zone is and then find out the growing zones for the plants you’re interested in. A quick google search and look for grower pages. They should have that information. I hope this helps. Also see if you can find some cheap seeds to experiment with. From one Caribbean gyal to another. Happy planting.
A friend just gave me some celome seeds. I’m in N Texas zone 8b. It’s the end of July. Is it too hot to plant seeds now, or maybe start indoors and plant outside in September? Or save for spring? Enjoy seeing your videos from this area!
Hi Marion @marionnixon817, Well, lucky you...that is a nice friend! You will love cleome:) I think it would be safer and easier to start them indoors and yes, you can transplant them outside as soon as they have germinated. Hopefully, they will grow fast enough to get blooms and/or reseed. If not, definitely save some for next year! You could probably sow them outdoors right now, but it would be so much work to keep the seeds moistened! If your like me, I don't want to be outside in this heat...lol!
@@shadedfromreality Thanks so much! I think I will try to start a few indoors and see how that goes, and save the rest for later. For the next 4 weeks, I will be doing good to keep the plants I have alive. 😁
I think as long as it’s hot and they are getting enough sun, it’s always worth a try! Keep in mind that they do get rather large! Mine are already over 3’ tall. Good luck and I would love to know the outcome!
Well I have some cleome seeds from a plant 2 years that I want to plant again. They must be perennial here in zone 7b as some of my seeds got washed under the fence to my neighbors yard and last year they were10’ tall! I just wanted to know when I can plant them outdoors and came across your video and now I’m subscribed and found out what I needed to know Thank you! I’ve heard them also called ‘ Grandpa’s Whiskers’ 😉 Happy Gardening Virginia in Arkansas 👨🌾
Hi Virginia, Oh wow...10'...that's crazy!!! I hope your neighbors were happy to get free flowers from you...lol! Thankfully, my cleome do not get any taller than about 3'! I'm glad the video helped. Happy Gardening right back at you! ~ Dawn
Well that fence is 8’ and they were2’ above it- my neighbors from across the way could see them above the fence and wanted to know what they were- I told them they were just some ‘snoopy cleome’s looking over the fence’ 😂
Like you say cleome are a hot summer plant for u.k. they are I would say difficult seeing as they sold like our weather here. I tried for years to grow these on a window cill then conservatory this is a really bad idea for sun lovers like cleome/ amaranthus ect ect. I think the only way to grow is to try cast seeding and taking your chances with birds, slugs wind and rain.

@@marionnixon817 Right?! I think it's about to get really bad...what we are usually used to this time of year! It's been so nice up until now :)
can they be grown "indoors" on balcony (keep windows open when not rainy); thx

That’s too bad they didn’t work for you…although cooler weather is really nice for growing things! I think you have much prettier options to grow!
