  • Tom E. Curran and Michael Holley break down episodes five and six of the new docuseries on the New England Patriots, "The Dynasty" on Apple TV Plus. The guys welcome in former Patriots QB Matt Cassel, who shares his thoughts on his time in New England and what it was like taking over for Tom Brady after his season-ending injury in the 2008 season opener. Then, the guys reflect on the situation with Aaron Hernandez and how the team reacted to warning signs from the troubled player leading up to his arrest for murder.

    Loved the Cassel episode, but the Hernandez episode felt like a Robert Kraft hit on Belichick with the way it's suggesting BB is almost culpable in the loss of life. Meanwhile Kraft gets to play up the emotion and make a public apology... after admitting earlier in the same interview that he was ready to pay for a lawyer to try and fight a murder charge. Really didn't like it.

    • @rupertpupkin2660
      @rupertpupkin2660 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yea it came off like Kraft was more upset with getting duped then the fact that Hernandez actually murdered someone! Insane. And Kraft knew Belichick wasn't going to comment on it so we basically only get one side of the story.

    • @viardrums
      @viardrums 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Everyone is trying to indict BB but great coaches/teachers of that caliber and with that level of success often put the product over everything else and that’s why they are as successful as they are. Kraft, however, feels a bit like a used car salesman trying to bolster his image at the expense of BB’s. I think RK, BB, and TB12 all were the true nucleus of the supposed “patriot way”. It was the cocktail of 3 extremely determined self interested entities. And that’s ok. We like to pass judgement on those who achieve while ignoring our own and everyone we know’s same tendencies. It’s fascinating but maddening to watch the speculative media pontificate over matters they still don’t really understand, while allowing their own biases to dictate their individual narratives as to who was “good”/“bad”/“innocent”/“guilty”.

    • @bpusef
      @bpusef 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Belichick had the chance to talk about it as well, and chose not to say anything. So it's hard to blame Kraft for using it as a platform to apologize when Belichick could've said any number of things about it.

      He traded Cassel the following year to the Chiefs. He wanted to let the Hernandez murder investigation "play out." Kraft was the one that cut him. Regarding Hernandez, I agree with Holly… when I watched this episode, why no more voices…. I wanted to hear from Brady, Gronk … certainly on the offensive (interesting term usage here) on what took place…..
    Additionally, I heard Belicheck’s live press conference…. This was not at all representative of his tone and attitude…. I felt this episode was so slanted towards the Krafts….. Here’s something else I feel: I am a liberal but I do feel that the our armed voices are necessary… DO NOT DIMINISH the fact that Belichick brought that mindset to the Gladiator NFL…..Jeezz, I am a godamn liberal and I can appreciate his approach….

    Man they've glossed over 3 super bowls completely. The structure of the doc is strange to me. I get talking about things like the 08 season but dedicating an episode to it while completely glossing over 03 and 04? The Hernandez stuff is interesting but glossing over a super bowl run in favor of it? Just starting to feel like a hit job that focuses on all the negatives of the dynasty and none of the positives.

    Only thing I didn't like about Episode 6 was the ending. Instead of ending the episode in writing with "Aaron Hernendez tragically committed suicide" they should have ended it with "Rest In Peace Odin Lloyd born on November 14th 1985 tragically passed on June 17th 2013".

I would love to see these interviews To learn everything that happened. I would love to see every interview that was not shown in the documentary. I think there would be a market for all of the video that was not shown in the documentary.

    Since you're not a shrink, you don't know if Hernandez was a psychopath or not. You also don't know that he "covered his tracks." What we do know is that Hernandez was a murderer. For all those players who say how Belichick treated all players the same, he obviously gives Hernandez a pass.
    As far as "hearing more voices" the word is "editing". You can only cram so many turnips in a 5 pound bag. So far this series has made Belichick come off badly and Kraft look like an idiot.

And that he'd personally pay for his defense? Was Kraft secretly trying to get a confession? What would be a good reason to kill someone Bob? It's like Hernandez had him under his spell!

    On the subject of episode 5, I agree with Jim Murray's take on the 11-5 without Brady thing being wildly overrated. Do people think the Dolphins would've won that week 3 game, never mind by 25 points? I'm not convinced a pedestrian Charger team that finished at 500 would've done anything and I'll never be convinced Pittsburgh wins in Foxboro with Tom playing. They missed the postseason after coming within 39 seconds of a perfect season the year before, period end of story, stop looking at it as a blemish on Brady's legacy!
