- The map of GTA5 is on the surface pretty simple, but there are still many different interesting aspects of the map that many players do not know, so today I will be presenting 25 interesting facts about the map that you likely did not know.

In 2009 BMW and Audi had sort of a Billboard war in Santa Monica with Audi writing "your move BMW" and BMW writing "Checkmate" both Posters containing their new Models.
The San Andreas flag has a beaver because “beaver” is slang for a vagina. It’s another example of Rockstar’s sexual humor.
The Audi v.s BMW thing was a reference towards an actual billboard rivalry happening in real life, I forgot what is said but if you look it up you can see what it’s about
So about that vase, GTA V actually doesn't have real-time reflections like you see in most games. It uses something called "cube map reflections" which basically means the developer takes a screenshot of a low poly version of the enviroment and that gets turned into a six square texture, this texture is applied to reflective surfaces around the general area to make it look like it was a reflection.
That's why reflections in GTA V do not show stuff like characters, cars, trees or other props, it's because they do not exist in that cube map.
The only way to see legit reflections in the game is with Fidelity Mode and even that mode has it's restrictions
cube maps arent generated by the developer, but rather during runtime, or during compilation by nodes places around that snap low res images

9:17 The Octopus ship is a different ship from the Platypus, and both of them appeared in GTA IV. The Platypus was anchored in the Broker port while the Octopus can be found in Alderney's port. So it isn't a reference to Niko's ship per se, but it is the same ship that appears in GTA IV.
The stream with the deer drinking out of is realistic, if you go exploring in the wilds and search for sources of rivers (at least in the UK) you'll find it's just a trickle out the side of a mountain that eventually flows down to a lake or river

As for the floating lines outside of the Maze Tower, it's just a mistake made by the devs when applying that texture. They do not paint over the ground texture to put those lines in, they are two separate textures layered on top of each other but whoever applied the lines texture probably messed up and applied it just a few inches above the ground, pretty common to see around Los Santos since there's tons of textures that are applied like this
Yeah I’ve noticed, it’s not just the Maze Bank tower, but multiple parts of the map have it, even some pot holes are floating
@@CoasterGaming Yeah, all those lines, holes and details on roads are textures layered on top of the ground texture. Sometimes they don't line up with the altitude of the ground

1:36 you don't know about game development too much indeed. It's pretty easy to add a real reflection, except it would put its toll on a performance (if you want it to look as smooth as a fake one), which is simply unreasonable to do for such a minor object.

@@v_Falls_v The reason why they don’t use pre-rendered reflections is because they would need to have pre-rendered shots for every reflective object in the room to capture all the different angels which could be dozens, and do this for every customisation the room can have which would consume tons of hard drive space. And every time they change something in the room, they have to redo all to pre-renders.
They are also using planar reflections for the vase which is why half the props are missing.

Rivers DO appear out of nowhere. I have personally seen many cases where out of nowhere the ground starts getting wet and, as you follow it downhill, it becomes a stream. Its just ground water coming out of the ground

Tinkle tower/ 4 integrity way is based on the AT&T Madison Complex Tandem Office in real life it doesnt have the coloured stripes but still has the giant ornamental looking mast. Just look up the buildings on gta wiki! Top tip for the floaty office markings outside... Arcadius is the better office tower to use 😏 overall access is better, the garages especially seem to suit the round shape better and you don't get a nosebleed going up to the roof 🤣
1:40 It's not pretty easy to add an reflection because the only way it would be possible to do it would be with raytracing and that method needs a lot of computing so developers usually just use preset textures for reflections.
They used a cube map basically a object that houses a fake reflection and and mirrors that fake reflections on the props that have that shader in a 3d environment, and the cube map takes images in the 3d environment (real time) during the first bake, after the first bake it will not mirror anything else that wasn't originally their unless its re-baked with all the props their. So it doesn't reflect real time.

1:32 I am a game developer and it is save to say the thing only has this reflection because rockstar optomized their time and game. When you make a static reflection (like this) you have to "bake" the room into it, what creates a reflection of the room. The other example you showed is a dynamic reflection what is just too expensive task to compute only for a nice vase. It is more efficient that way they made it. It is possible to make a "material" for every variation (furniture, color exc) but creating 50 vase options for this is also inefficient timewise.

1:20 as someone who’s been doing game development for 6 years whilst I’m still no expert I think I have enough knowledge to answer this question.
So adding reflective differs from game engine to game engine, some have them more optimised then others, however most games don’t actually do reflection but fake it, however they instead used a baked cube map texture into a shader that mimics that of a reflective surface however is just a texture image, so it’s usually low poly, no post processing effects, and kinda odd to save resources on your hardware. This can also be seen perfectly in Forza Horizon 5 if you look into the any mirror
Edit: The Parking Lines also is simple to explain, so any texture like those lines, road marking, graffiti are just what’s called decals, all they do is simply project a texture onto a surface, this combined with what I’m assuming is a road building tool they’d have, can sometimes get the projection wrong, as it does usually require complex math
Why do they even patch wall breaches? 99% breaches are not game breaking and are just for fun.

3:25 my friend and I use the pacific standard bank for our own game mode called King of the bank, what we do is PvP myself and him and first person to 20 kills wins the game, so much fun and 95% of the time it’s a cop free zone. Meaning if you kill a player in here most of the time the cops won’t come for you!

3:48 This is actually how the sources of creeks/streams look a lot of the time. They usually just gradually blend into the ground until there's no identifiable origin point. Especially on a hill like this, they are usually formed by runoff.

The Vase reflection is a pre-rendered Texture using a Reflection mapping texlchnique, it is common in many older video games from the Mid 2000s to mid 2010s that gives the illusion of real time reflection, probably if you watch the vase throughout the game's day cycle, it most probably do a time skip Texture setup instead of real time setup.
The other method that is more likely the case is real time static reflection mapping, this is more with vehicles in GTA 4 & 5 as the vehicles reflect the world around you but only the static meshes, all dynamic meshes such as vehicles, people, signs, lamps etc do not reflect.

1:38 my guess is the texture is "baked". Baking an object is basically pre-rendering the reflections. This helps the performance significantly if used properly

The Bulldozer is able to be owned. You have to unlock it through the Arena War tiers at like 50 or 75 I forgot exactly what level.
Btw your question to answer, is yes it does take a lot of resources and effort to include reflections. It's why newer games dont even do it. An example is the newest Dead Island.
