I agree -- I think the underdog stories and rookies are what make the product great. This is why I dislike LIV where everyone is paid already and really just putting on a canned exhibition each week.
You make some valid points but unfortunately you are in a small minority. The tours metrics clearly demonstrate that viewership goes up or down in direct proportion to his many top players are in the field. And as far as how many would watch if Wes was winning it likely would be no more than the number of subscribers (I am one) on his TH-cam channel. No other viewers care or even know who he is. That’s just the reality.
I 100% agree with you. People need to remember that todays "stars" were yesterdays never heard of him before. Players can't become stars if they don't get to play. Limiting playing opportunities is not a recipe for success. At the same time. If players have a problem with it. Play better. That's the simple answer. The tour is driven by how well you play. If you win and are in contention week in and week out you will become a star. The tv interviews follow, the deep dive into your background follows and with that more opportunities come. It wasn't but 4 or 5 years ago no one really heard of Scottie Scheffler or knew much about him. Throw a few wins and the mix and a couple of majors and boom stardom.
Lucas Glover is a real stand up dude. I agree that limiting the number of competitors on the tour is totally crazy. If we want this game to continue to grow , the PGA should expand the fields. I tune into some of the non marquee events simply to try and watch Wesley. I am a lifelong fan of golf, and while there are big names out there, I’d rather watch 18 holes of Wesley being followed than your Scottie, or Rory, or Xander.
The “bottom” quarter of the tour is a very challenging and anguish filled position. Monday qualifiers are huge financial risks. Getting into the field, then not making the cut, is a huge financial risk. Sponsors making field quota numbers or cut numbers to remain sponsored is a huge financial risk. Getting an exempt card wasn’t easy then the PGA also granted 30 exempt cards to the top winners of the Korn Ferry. If you’re not getting into the top 25 multiple times, I wonder if you can even afford it.
Well, I watch PGA on broadcast, and what makes golf interesting are the small "moments" of greatness. Unless you are a fan of top 3 and a selected few, like Rory etc. Your own fav is hardly ever shown, even if they do realy great things. TH-cam will be the next big arena, and you will probably be able to watch those players you are a fan of
Making it harder for guys to get opportunities to get and play on tour from qualifiers or what not is just asinine!! It’s already hard enough! When I watch I don’t just want to see the top guys. That gets old.
Got to love Wesley. He is a better product for the game than a Rory or a Schauffele, he brings personality to the game. The PGA needs to take some tips from TH-cam golfers like him. That’s what viewers want.
What an absurd response to a person’s opinion. @wadepreston34 is correct. The tour lacks personality. Bland, vanilla and robotic can be used to describe many players on tour.
Sorry to disappoint with my comment, but I am watching TH-cam golfers way more than PGA, way more entertaining. And I voted for Trump, so fucking shoot me.
I like to watch Wesley because he pulls off some shots that are exciting. Wesley is always taking dead aim. Best wishes to Wesley and George in Bermuda.
Good for Wesley. Way too many mediocre players scratching a living on the tour that nobody would miss - very few bottom ranked players become household names. Wesley has a viable backup plan with his entertaining YT channel that others in his spot don't.
I agree with Glover. Wesley is the shit, his brutal honesty kills me. I do think the field needs to stay the same. That or give the Korn Ferry more money to pay the guys a livable wage.
@@ArthurDentZaphodBeeb I love wes and yt golf, but there is nothing more entertaining than high-level competition on Sunday of a big tournament. If the PGA tour dies, so will the level of golf we see out of players like Scottie
I don't want to watch the same 6 or 7 guys playing every weekend. That's what is killing viewership. It's boring seeing Rory choke in the majors. It boring seeing Scottie kick ass every weekend. There is no variety. The top players also make so much money that it's making golf equipment too expensive for recreational golfers. The tour is dying, the future of golf is the creator channels on TH-cam. It is more entertaining as well as relatable.
I'm with Lucas. More competition is better. You don't know who the future stars will be and making it harder for people to get on the tour and make a living in golf means there will be potential that never develops.
@BryanBrosGolf Wesley not the most exciting product? Not true. His save shots are what makes especially in person golf great to watch. Like earlier at The Greenbrier this year Phil almost hit me in face with a ball but his save shot to stick it 5ft from 220yds was amazing. There's nothing more exciting than a pro in trouble and getting out of it, just like Bryson on 18 at the US Open.
The tour is trying to entice players to go to LIV. Also, NONE of these changes will be around 20 - 30- or 50 years from now! Wesley should go into politics lol.
I love Wesley and his honesty about the questions he's asked. It's always some self deprecating answer, lol. But.... I lean more with Lucas Glover on this one. The tour should be providing more opportunities for its up and coming future stars, not less. Wesley has made it clear for quite some time that he enjoys his YT content more and doesn't really care when his PGA career comes to an end. That's not the view of most players. They want to have opportunities to play.
I don’t like it. I root for players like Brice Garnett and Wesley Bryan to play well and make good money. I don’t follow much in the tournaments they are not in.

TH-cam will be the next big arena, and you will probably be able to watch those players you are a fan of
People will watch this tournament just because Wes is in the field. He's one of the big guys now.
yea lets go WES
All of those amazing players losing their cards should focus on TH-cam golf and just take business from PGA TOUR. Follow Wesley's path
Wes is the best scrambler in the game
Here for Wes comments
Does Bryan even have full status?
Welsey talking with a video suggestion under it of him and grant. 😂😂
Making it harder for guys to get opportunities to get and play on tour from qualifiers or what not is just asinine!! It’s already hard enough! When I watch I don’t just want to see the top guys. That gets old.
Alot harder to get on tour unless you are the top 1 or 2 players our of college who win out the gate.
Wes is the most entertaining golfer to watch! Let’s catch Wes!!
Kudos to Lucas Glover speaking his mind
Got to love Wesley. He is a better product for the game than a Rory or a Schauffele, he brings personality to the game. The PGA needs to take some tips from TH-cam golfers like him. That’s what viewers want.
What an absurd thing to say
What an absurd response to a person’s opinion.
@wadepreston34 is correct. The tour lacks personality. Bland, vanilla and robotic can be used to describe many players on tour.
@ if you genuinely believe that Wesley Bryan is more important to the PGA tour than Rory and Xander then you’re living in a fantasy world
Sorry to disappoint with my comment, but I am watching TH-cam golfers way more than PGA, way more entertaining. And I voted for Trump, so fucking shoot me.
He is a hypocrite. He wouldn't be saying the things he is saying if you was just starting his career.
Love glover here
Just turned on golf Channel because I got an alert from PGA tour app Wesley Bryan 🔥. You guys aren't showing him you suck!! LETS GO WES!!!!
I like to watch Wesley because he pulls off some shots that are exciting. Wesley is always taking
dead aim. Best wishes to Wesley and George in Bermuda.
Kevin streelman basically admitting to watering down the whole “world rankings” due to too guys keeping there jobs
Wesley is the most exciting player to watch on tour.
Tell ‘em Lucas!
I honestly don’t care about the changes as long as the majors don’t change. I know The Masters won’t change, so I’m ok with the rest.
Wesley is an absolute legend 😆
I tune in to watch you Wesley
I’d rather watch Wesley than any of the top pros. Wish he’d get more TV time.
I love this game
And the doors will be open at LIV for sure.. 🤷🏼♂️
Dude I only watch guys like Wesley. I honestly watch more of Bryan Bros, Horvant and Bryson more than any pro golf.
Good for Wesley. Way too many mediocre players scratching a living on the tour that nobody would miss - very few bottom ranked players become household names. Wesley has a viable backup plan with his entertaining YT channel that others in his spot don't.
Wesley is one of those guys.
Lucas Glover, as always, speaks the truth! He has the best interest of all players in his thoughts. Yes, the PGA Tour is stale.
The bottom fifty aren't thrilled
I agree with Glover. Wesley is the shit, his brutal honesty kills me. I do think the field needs to stay the same. That or give the Korn Ferry more money to pay the guys a livable wage.
PGA TOUR product is suffering because TH-cam golf is taking over.
Yup, far more entertaining and relatable.
Wesley is a DAWG!
Fans don’t want less golfers. Fans want slow players to have real consequences. The tour needs to stop being scared to making the top 10 upset
Protectionist move driven by the lackluster and uninteresting. (Those threatened by YT golf)
Limiting isn’t growth or building for golf.
Lucas Glover is 100 percent correct.
Talk about giving less guys a chance to get in a tournament
I would watch Wes over Speith any day
Better changes for 2030, 50 years from now. That’s some good math 😂😂😂
So, Lukas Glover likes playing 6-hour professional rounds. Got it.
Prefer to watch WES any DAY OVER L1V PELICANS
Fans want cuts. Fans want cuts... They dont want to see tour players in signature events shooting over par - stupid.
#equity lol
Big L for the PGA tour. I want to watch Wes duke it out with Billy Ho.
Thanks LIV, just another crappy decision
Remove Wesley and we RIOT!!!!!!
I don’t like it. I root for players like Brice Garnett and Wesley Bryan to play well and make good money. I don’t follow much in the tournaments they are not in.
