"Aerial Faith Plates are part of a larger trust experiment designed to help the Enrichment Center discover whether the capacity for trust is affected by being catapulted into space." That sounds like something wheatley would benefit in
2011 omg that is a decade ago. seriously hope Valve gets into making narrative games again. Alyx was 10/10. Hoping for more Half Life / Aperture adventures.
I know I am 11 yrs late, but I agree with this guy But I think they cut this one because glad os was revived just few moments back and was giving easy tasks But yeah I agree this one is better
Because the things you see in this video are under development, low priority stuff like the gun holding animation are added later closer to the release date.
"CONGRADULATIONS YOU'VE JUSTT WON ONE MIL- AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
@AppReviewQ no, at the end of Portal 1, Chell is dragged back into the Enrichment Center by the "party associate". She is then placed into stasis. Hundreds of years later, she is taken out of Stasis by Wheatley, who needs her help to escape the Enrichment Center with him. Atlas and P-Body are the androids you play as in CO-OP.
Did anyone else notice that instead of holding the cube with the portal gun and the electric field thing there is an animation of putting the gun away?
@IIIJosachiIII She has advanced knee replacements that allow her to hit the ground at terminal velocity and survive, so long as she lands on her feet (and, because your character is ussually upright in fps games, she always does).
Those turrets sure have bad aim when they are flying around. I guess they were made to be stationary. Considering how non-threatening they sound (they never act like they WANT to kill you), my guess is that shooting at you is involentary, similar to flinching for humans. If that's the case I sure do feel sorry for them. :(
It's the little things that count. For example, look at when Chell picks up the turret, notice the portal gun goes off screen as if to say she's actually picking the thing up with two hands instead of it just floating in front of her like in Portal one or Half-Life. I don't know, I just find that cool.
@overdark33 It's lifted by an in-built gravitational grip in the portal gun, in Portal the gun wasn't put away when lifting, this is just a test video I'd imagine it would be the same in the full game of Portal 2 because if you listen closely the gun makes a noise every time the player grabs something. The cube might be a lot lighter but gains the same momentum being less resistant to the opposing wind because it's smaller. Also "implying" is stating a theorized truth, see: implication. :D
i just realised something. Whenever you picked up an object in this video, the gun just slid out of view instead of showing it with the electric prongs and whatnot.
@XModule Well it would be a simple trig algorithm in the coding Velocity X, Velocity Y, -9.8m/s^2 (Translated into the hammer units of course), and the angle of launch... I think the idea of a key value should be an option when using the plates, because it might work in some instances but be buggy in others, making manual forces and direction vectors necessary. But i do agree, it would be alot easier than guess and check with constant map reloading, that would save alot of time.
@sutasman i think it depends on preference truthfully; i know lots of ppl like console over pc; and a lot of ppl prefer pc over console; i for one being a pc gamer and i love the mouse/ keyboard set up; i hate holding a button to do this, or blah blah blah; but some ppl don't like stretching their fingers too much or just plain hate WASD set ups. in the end it all depends on what you like
@Tenn1502 I think that having the heavy lifting device makes sense; don't want your test subjects to be tired out when you're testing their intelligence, not their strength. Also, since there's no animation of Chell's hands, it really does look like the thing is floating in front of her, and when you see yourself through a portal, it doesn't look half as good as with the portal's lifter. And the gun goes off-screen in half life too, don't know what you're talking about there :P
@Pevapa No, it was why, the exact same Why from Portal 1; there's very little new voice lines for turrets. at least what I can tell from the videos. after hearing Portal's turret sounds so much in Portal and as a mod for TF2, I can assure you it was the "Whhyyy..." Voice clip..
@TheMarioMan1 It's more like that it wasn't an Aerial Faith Plate. You have to step on one to use it, and therefore, it must be placed on an horizontal surface. That device Wheatley used is more like a modified panel, like a crusher, but without all the killing.
I think when you make the cube land just so on a Super Colliding Super Button, some confetti should shoot out. Maybe some fanfare. Nothing big, just a cheer or two.
that perfect cube landing tho..
could be path scripted
#Straighttothebutton
...Nailed it.
The eagle has landed
Nice shot
If I did that part at the end the cube would roll into the slime...

Okay. Credit where it's due; for a little idiot built specifically to come up with stupid, unworkable plans, that was a pretty well-laid trap.

That pause when the cube landed perfectly felt like not even the demo player expected that to happen
It's very interesting to see how things could have looked in Portal 2.
This actually looks like the best game ever. Im serious.
right you were

Results were highly informative. They could not
I bursted of laugh when the sentry said
-WHY ?!
Why are these so fun to randomly go back and look at 10 years later after playing this game however long ago.
@entireties
I can just imagine this in GLaDOS' voice, and I love the "Wheeeeeee" part from the first game.
2011 omg that is a decade ago. seriously hope Valve gets into making narrative games again. Alyx was 10/10. Hoping for more Half Life / Aperture adventures.
The puzzles in this look brilliantly designed!
I love how these videos are from beta builds of Portal 2 and how you can see the slight differences from older builds and the retail build
GREAT JOB ON THE SHADOWS, they turned out perfect
The Texture Reflexions were much better in the beta, than there are in the released game :/
The Reflections in the beta are straight from Portal 1, and it's not the reflections, it's the lighting reflecting off the models.
+FLooper the first idea of faith plates
RIP English
I'd assume that the texture rendering was too intensive and would cause laggy movement
The Faith Plates would completely crush you without the Long Fall Boots...
man it would be so badass to have a pair of them in real life.
Achievement Get! Pturretdactyl
god, i love the new sounds for the cube buttons and the stick button things. the old buttons were all *CLANGG!* and these are all *EPICNESS*
Thanks to this, I now see many things in real life as trust experiments. Crossing the street, asking somebody to hold something for you...
These should be made onto Tv Commercials. At least they be pleasing to watch
This kind of feels like one of those rooms featured in Portal 1 that was cut because it just doesn't feel 'right'.
i like the way the facilaty gets dirtyer as you get through it
This game has exponentially increased the potential for turret cruelty.
I love how the crate magically lands on the button. Physics = awesome!
The turrets "Whhyy..." was timed perfectly, as was the button landing.
Curse you and your precise, precision Valve.
lol, best part was when the turret said "why?"
This test chamber is better than the one in the final release because you have to use Portals to proceed. Turrets are a bonus for difficulty.
I know I am 11 yrs late, but I agree with this guy
But I think they cut this one because glad os was revived just few moments back and was giving easy tasks
But yeah I agree this one is better
You guys love torturing those poor turrets, don't you?
Dear God, I need this game.
Thumbs up for the fantastic map designers
Oh, OK.
It would be nice if Valve revealed more about the chronology of the series
When making games, you play them so many times to fix little things that you end up being really really really good at them.
This looks so easy for the people that made this game because they know what to do. When I play it it will take me 30 minutes to beat 1 level.
6 people could not handle the awesomeness
Can't stop watching how the room repairs itself, nerdgaaaasm!
The faith plate design from this is better than what they put in the final game.
I like how the early aerial faith plates we're glass panels.
Man I friggin want Portal 2 when it comes out.
0:38 omg this robot is so sweet and u killed it :(
A game that requires precision, thought, and problem solving skills . . . and for the 360 . . . FINALLY!!!!!
I NEVER KNEW YOU COULD PICK THE TURRENTS UP FROM BEHIND WHILE THEY WERE LIVE
Because the things you see in this video are under development, low priority stuff like the gun holding animation are added later closer to the release date.
Man we’ll watch anything in quarantine
i always liked the animations when you pick something up in this game better.

I hope we don't have to wait 37 years for a Portal 2: Episode 3! If they do make episodic content for Portal, make sure it has an episodic delay!

HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE THIS OMG
@FuriousJack95 there is actually a hand on the back of the portal gun, you just cant see it, nor is it textured.
@64MultiMariofan It is a portalable surface. It's an angled panel with the 'arm room' for the panel is dark. Pause at 1:13 for more details.
My only thought when the cube landed on the panel perfectly was 'GOALLLL!!!! AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!!!!!!!!'
It's the little things that count. For example, look at when Chell picks up the turret, notice the portal gun goes off screen as if to say she's actually picking the thing up with two hands instead of it just floating in front of her like in Portal one or Half-Life.
I don't know, I just find that cool.
I bet the first part of GlaDOS's tests was for "Human Necessity to Press Big Shiny Red Buttons."
Then when the cube is destroyed, a new one is automatically respawned. So you can't get trapped. You should know if you played Portal.
@jonhygatinho but in fact they are...this one and repulsion gel both made it into the game.
@overdark33 It's lifted by an in-built gravitational grip in the portal gun, in Portal the gun wasn't put away when lifting, this is just a test video I'd imagine it would be the same in the full game of Portal 2 because if you listen closely the gun makes a noise every time the player grabs something.

Portal is such a wonderful game
Valve removed a lot of good things from this game
and these plates are easier to distinguish from the actual ingame plates
Fancy seeing you here champ :)

It's the Weighted Storage Cuve v.2.0!
I wonder how many tries it took him to get that cube to land perfectly on the red button.
Is it just me, or is the portal gun fire more powerful then it was in the last game?
