  • Cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, NCL, and Disney always offer a spa onboard. I visited the spa onboard the Carnival Sunrise for a 50 minute massage. This was what the experience was like.

I doubt that I'd ever get a massage a cruise again. However, I would DEFINITELY get another facial. I've had facials twice on a cruise and they were hands down the best facials I've ever had. My skin was flawless for weeks!!! I couldn't stop looking at myself.

Although this video is 3 years old, I’m glad I came across this. I will be boarding my 10 cruise next week, on the Carnival Panorama and I was considering booking a couples massage for my wife and I. I’ve never done a massage on a cruise to date. But you’re right, it’s not worth it. It’s $245 for 75 minutes. I’ll find something else to do 😂.

You couldn't pay me to go to Disney. Give me a massage any day. I can get a massage anywhere but I don't. Only on a cruise so it is worth it to me. Enjoy your cruise. I enjoy your videos!

For my wife and i, a spa experience while on vacation is just one of those indulgences where we look the other way in terms of expense. If it is a good experience, it is like a $100 bottle of wine that we spluge on for a special occassion. Not something we do every day (or month, or year) but sometimes the experience is more important than a budget.

OMG, I never thought about spending $100 on a bottle of wine until now! I mean, if I can spend it on a 50 minute massage, why not a bottle of wine that I can enjoy a few nights in a row? Totally doing it soon! Any recommendations? :-P

For me, I could never understand the concept of having a "spa" on board a cruise ship. If I want a massage, I can get one anytime; why waste valuable cruise time doing something that you can do any time? I understand that you feel that it is more of a special experience with extra attention - I get that. BTW, excuse my ignorance, but what is the diff between a regular massage and a "swedish" massage? I guess I could google that....lol. Take care!!

There are many different massage techniques! Swedish is done with oil and involves slow movements, sport massage is really hard and sometimes painful, thai massage is with no oil and involves stretching and pressure points, etc.

I wait until I get into port, specifically Mexico. Can’t beat an hour long massage for $20!

Travel is work in the commute to and from the destination. Get a massage locally (check your local Google listings) just before that trip. You will be fresh for the journey.

I had my first ever comfortable massage recently at a hotel on a groupon voucher . It was £49 for a full body inner peace (whatever that is???) massage . It was wonderful. It’s all about getting the pressure right for sure ! I found that my upper inner thigh (when I’m on my back) is hilariously ticklish! How did I not know that you ask ??? I’ve been married for 27 years !!! 😂
Anyway I am now hoping to have another one as soon as I find another groupon .
I would also not ever have one onboard unless I was very flush with money or I was maybe wanting some alone time . But I usually find a show to go and watch or hide somewhere 🤣

Did you book the massage on a sea day or a port day? If you had the massage on a port day, you can buy spa services for less on port days. Would a lower port day price change your mind about it being worth the cost?

I booked the Carnival Liberty yesterday for Monday's sailing at $44 a person and then Carnival gave me $100 OBC for the Corona Virus booking incentive. Great time for cruising if you are willing to risk it.

lol, I was looking at that same sailing, just for curiosity. If we were able to go last minute, the whole thing for two people would have been $300 (with taxes and gratuities). Once my husband retires we'll definitely take advantage of things like that.

I'm glad you were able to go! We were planning a trip for early next month that we've postponed since we would have been traveling with our (aging) parents, and don't want to risk their health.

I won’t get a massage on a cruise ship - prefer to go to a licensed massage therapist near my home in the US (trained & needs to keep up the license with continuing education courses). I have pain problems due to fibromyalgia & a masseuse or masseur might be ok - but also may cause me to have more pain if they don’t know how to do a therapeutic massage. I usually cruise with my friend Nancy & she had been my massage therapist for many years (now retired) & she likes to get a massage while cruising - waits for the sales on port days (sometimes just a foot/hand/face & scalp massage)!

Oh geez your on vacation relax and spend the money 120-130 is very inexpensive for where your at - land hotels resorts are up to 220/hour unless you go to your local strip mall massage parlor 30/hour, Why go on vacation if you watching your $$ - yea you can spend 12 hours at Disneyland and wait in line for an hour for each ride which last 2-4 minutes so twelve rides at 4 min a ride is 48min of ride time Vs 50 min continues relaxation hmmmm

I find them constantly trying to upgrade or sell me something during the cruise extremely irritating.

I pay $90Cdn for a 60 min massage by a RMT. Then i claim it in my health benefits and get about $30 back. No way would I pay $120US... that's like $160Cdn and none is claimable!

    • @TracyKMainwaring

A RMT should always talk to you before the massage! I can't believe that's not common for you!

Sounds like sitting down and talking about your needs makes it feel like you are getting more for your money. Was the talking about of your 50 minutes?

I think I was actually in there for an hour and the extra 10 mins was the talky part.
