Full Review of the Carnival Venezia cruise ship. We tell you what we loved, didn't love, and hated

- Carnival Venezia debuted for Carnival Cruise Lines in May 2023 with an inaugural sailing from Barcelona and we were there! We had 15 days to explore the ship and truly get a feel for what we loved, what we didn't love, and what we hated about the ship. This video looks at all of the new venues and spaces on board that are unique to Carnival Venezia. We recorded a ton of video, took thousands of pictures, and captured all of our thoughts so that you could get better insight into the ship.
In true This Cruise Life fashion, we review the Food, Drinks, Entertainment, and General thoughts about the ship. We tell you the things we loved (there's a lot!), some of the things we didn't love, and a couple things that we hated about the ship.
Carnival Venezia is a Vista-class ship and is sister to Carnival Vista, Carnival Horizon, and Carnival Panorama. Though, she's a sister in layout and name only, as the ship was built for Carnival's sister brand, Costa Cruises as Costa Venezia. She debuted for Carnival Cruise Line as part of the line's "Fun Italian Style" concept and still sports her Costa funnel. Additionally, you'll see in this video that she also sports a TON of Costa and Italian flare.
She will be joined in 2024 with a second ship in the Fun Italian Style concept when the Costa Firenze transforms and becomes the Carnival Firenze sailing from Long Beach. You can learn more about the Carnival Firenze in this video:

Thanks for the nice review of the Venezia..Am thinking of planning a sailing on her when she repositions to Port Canaveral in 2025..Should be interesting as I enjoy exploring as many different ships as possible!
If you’ve sailed with Carnival before, you’re definitely in for a treat with this ship. She adds an element of class! Thanks for watching our video and we hope you enjoy your sailing!
We just got off the Venezia 3 days ago. We had Anytime Dining and we stayed on deck 5 in the Terraza area. First, everyone of the Crew were always going above and beyond being friendly and helpful. All of our waiters were friendly and the dinner orders were always correct and hot. The room Steward was the best. Most of the shows were great along with all of the different music in different sections. My wife and I are near 80 and loved the beauty and decor of the ship. We listened to some fine music and watched people dancing and having a great time. As with all cruises, a little patient's, and positive attitude will make your cruise so enjoyable.
Thank you for the wonderful review of your recent sailing! It sounds like you had a great cruise. We’re glad to hear that the items we struggled with have improved. Definitely agree that patience is always important when sailing, regardless of what cruise line you take. The crew are so busy going out of their way to take of all the passengers, which can’t be easy! Thank you so much for watching our review of our experience and for sharing yours with us!
Just got back from Christmas cruise on Venezia. Wish I watched this before going! I think they definitely heard your video and have made some changes like gym shower door, dj for lido and line for Java blue
Love this; thank you so much for sharing! You’ve got me excited to get back on Venezia to see. :)
Hope you had an absolutely wonderful time and a Merry Christmas at sea!
I just rewatched this video. Thank you Mark for your straight up opinions! ❤
Thank you for watching! We think it’s so important to showcase not just the bad things, but share our true full experience. Stay tuned to the channel for more ship reviews coming soon!
Nice video. I expect from the deck plans that the new Carnival Firenze will be similar to the Venezia. So I appreciate the tips you provide! Thanks Mark!!
Yes! They appear to be very similar from what we've seen as we've scoured through them. Just a few minor changes aside from the name of venues, design of spaces (Venice versus Florence) and the forward of Deck 3.
Going on a 10 day cruise this month. Very excited! Thanks for the review
Hope you have an amazing cruise! 10 days is the perfect amount!
Thank you for an awesome and informative review. I love your energy!!!
Thank you for tuning in to watch our video! We love putting out these videos for everyone to enjoy.
Thanks so much!!! I like your style of review and you’ve convinced me to give this shop a try!
Oh yay! Thanks for tuning in. We hope you have an amazing time!
This is a great review. I can't wait to sale on her.
Thank you so much for watching! Hope you have an amazing sailing!
Sailing on 10/14. Looking forward to it,
How exciting! You're going to have an amazing sailing!
Very well done video!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed watching our video.
Planning to go on a 7 day trip on this ship next year! Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching! We hope you have an amazing cruise!
Awesome video. Thank you for sharing. I will be sailing on the Venezia 2025
Thanks for watching! We hope you have an amazing cruise!
Thanks for this review. Very informative. Four of us are leaving this Friday 5/17/24 on the Venezia for 10 days. Can’t wait and really enjoyed all the information you imparted.
Thank you so much for watching! The ship is gorgeous and we hope you have an amazing time! Love those longer itineraries.
I’m new to your channel, but right away I knew I was subscribing. Awesome job in the review, and thanks for other pointers about transatlantic crossing, I’m a fan wife not so much , so thanks for helping my side lol
Haha. We’re glad you were able to grab some helpful hints from the video. Best of luck with convincing her. Hopefully our videos will help her understand how much fun cruises can be!
Thank you!!!!! We just booked Venezia for 2026!!!! Excellent informative video😎🚢 hoping that some of the things you didn't like get changed by the time we board in 2026👍
Thanks for watching! We’re keeping our eyes on that ship and the Firenze to see if there are changes made from all the complaints. Sounds like the update would be pretty major and require a dry dock, so we’ll see what happens.
Great video we are on this on nov 30
Thank you for watching! You are going to have an amazing cruise!
Getting ready for 11 days on this ship, Thanks for your awesome review.
After my 11 day sailing,
Somewhat disappointed with Carnival, the ship? Beautiful,
We hope you have an amazing cruise!
Me too! Nov. 9th!
@@havefunoutthere6378How exciting!
Mee too Nov 9th. @@havefunoutthere6378
I have heard some staff people are being rude i hope you are right and they are as amazing as you say. Thanks for the review.
In most cases, we encountered amazing human beings working on the ship. They were genuine and cared about our enjoyment of the itinerary. There's always the possibility that you'll encounter a crew member who's having a bad day, but with our experience it's been far and few between.
The small lido space and how hard it is to find chairs in the Serenity area make me glad that I booked a Terrazza cabana! Cannot wait for those aft views on sea days!
You're going to love those Terrazza Cabanas! Great location and so peaceful on those sea days.
Great video! I am on the November 9th sailing and I’m a carnival junkie and this ship had me a little nervous. Now im looking really forward to it!
@@gregschuette6160 we had our reservations about it as well, but were glad to see familiar Carnival venues - with an Italian twist! Thank you for watching the video and we hope you have an amazing cruise!
I’ll be on Venezia on October 28th for 12 days so I’m super thankful for your thorough review!
@@avaa1217 we’re so excited for your upcoming journey! You’re going to have a great time. Thanks for watching!
Good review…. I always get a kick out of spa massage areas. I have never had a massage in my life, found it to be a waste of time. With my benefits, I can utilize one a month but have never tried. Thinking about taking this ship out of New York to the Bahamas…..thoughts.
Hopefully you're able to gift the monthly massage that you're entitled to with your benefits to someone else! Any opportunity to get on a 9+ night sailing is a great choice in our book! Those itineraries come with added experiences since they're classified as "Journey's Cruises". You'll get some midnight buffets, throwback sea days, and other fun activities. Even better if the weather is cold in New York - you'll have the opportunity to thaw out once in the Caribbean.
Before I even got off my cruise in October I booked another on the Venezia for October 2024.
That’s amazing! Congrats on the new booking. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the ship so much.
Smoke on ships is SUCH an issue. The Breakaway class of ships on NCL are the worst where that's concerned. I'm doing Venezia the second week of January and will be interested to see what changes they might have made regarding some of these issues you mention. Here's hoping Anytime Dining has worked out the kinks, 'cause that's what I've got!
Based on reviews we've heard from other people who have since sailed on her, it sounds like the dining issues have been resolved, we just encountered the new-ship woes. As for the air circulation problems, it sounds like that has not been addressed yet. The good news is that you can easily bypass the casino by using the deck above to traverse the ship so you can avoid the smell altogether.
Great video. Loved the details. Anyone know if they’ve addressed/fixed the smoking smell issue? Also is the embarkation smoother out of the NYC port?
Hey there! Thanks for watching! We’ve heard that the smoking issue hasn’t been fully resolved due to an air filtration system that wasn’t designed to separate out the areas. As for the embarkation process, we haven’t heard any complaints from recent sailings. Still give yourself some extra time to get to the port just to be safe.
Is this smoking going to trigger those with asthma or other respiratory issues?
Thanks for the question. Unfortunately, if nothing has changed from the inaugural, I think it would trigger it. With that said, we’ve read mixed reviews - some say they didn’t notice it whereas others say it’s still bad. I’m hopeful that it’ll be good for your sailing! If you wouldn’t mind sharing with us the experience, I’d love that very much. Thanks, again, for watching! -Mark
I don’t understand what has taken so long for you to post this video. You sailed back in July, yet posted this in October.
Most of your points are valid, but the dining room issues have since been corrected, especially the “My Time Dining” issues. And the overcrowding.
The cruise was also very short staffed on that sailing, that has also been corrected.
I would hate for people to be dissuaded from sailing on this ship because of some of the negatives from months ago.
Hey there! Thanks for tuning in. We’ve actually posted 20 videos about the Carnival Venezia (th-cam.com/play/PLzjdnP6ox569T0KWskizGl4DjsNzTPdyq.html) with this being the culmination of our thoughts and Full Review.
If you’ve sailed the ship and had a good Any Time Dining experience, that’s great! Unfortunately, we continue to see reviews and posts that seem to indicate otherwise. The good news is that there’s another option and that’s Assigned Dining - which I recommend to friends and followers. As I mentioned in my Short about this very topic, I know Carnival will get it right, but for the inaugural season, I recommend Assigned Dining.
In terms of someone being dissuaded from sailing on the Carnival Venezia… I’d recommend watching our Shorts and this Full Review. As I’ve said multiple times, I love this ship and am excited to sail on her sister Carnival Firenze for the inaugural. With that said, there are a couple of things that weren’t perfect, however, I stand by my final thoughts: “I highly recommend Carnival Venezia… It was an amazing ship and I can’t wait to hear what you think when you sail on board Carnival Venezia.”
Thanks, again, for sharing your thoughts!
@@thiscruiselife I’ve seen most or all f the videos that you’ve posted of this ship. Again, my point was that I hope that people are not swayed from sailing on it because of issues that were on the initial US sailings but have since been rectified.
Your videos are quite informative and enjoyable.
Great video. Hopefully some changes will be made for Firenze. Sailing her in October. Looking forward to your videos on her prior to. When will Carnival learn to put the smoking in the annex casino room?
We agree! Their new class of ships, the Excel-class, seems to put the smoking casino off to the side, though there is still some bleed over to other areas. Seems like they still need to work on their air flow and filtration.
Oh gosh! I'm boarding in October, too! Me and my family are celebrating my parents' marriage.
@@user-sn4cb8fu1h What a beautiful way to celebrate them!
February ready 2024
It's just around the corner now! We hope you have an amazing cruise!
Im on the January 6th 2024 Sailing if anyone else is gonna be there!
Me too 🎉🎉🎉
@@natashaallen3502 its gonna be a blast!
Debating if want to go on this boat for 9 days lol in March
Oh my gosh, it's such a great ship! There was definitely way more that we loved about this sailing and the ship! She's quite different than any other Carnival ship out there and we're here for it!
We just booked our specialty dining and I’m wondering if I should cancel ll Viaggio? Thoughts?
Thanks for watching and your comment. Personally, even with the experience we had, I’m still so very glad we booked Il Viaggio. The ambiance and overall dinner was lovely. Do I think it’s worth the cost? Probably not which is why I wouldn’t likely book it again unless there was a special occasion or I had some OBC to spare. I’d love to hear what you decide to do - and if you dine there, how your experience compares! I’ve read some really wonderful reviews and so I’m curious on your thoughts!! -mark
i have seen other youtuber doing a review for this ship and then i read other ppl comment that they didn't have a good time on this ship due to mediocre food, small pool, crowded etc. just curious...just to check there is no conflict of interest...did you pay full price for this cruise or did you receive a free or discounted price or other free perks for doing a video of this cruise?
We paid the full price for this sailing. We are not gamblers and there are no sponsorships from any cruise lines. All of the details you see in our videos are truly based on our experiences.
Leaving next week 12 day 5 islands. Nice video. I don't eat red meat so looks like Chinese food & pizza for me. Guess I'll lose weight. Spa is included I didn't know that. I was looking for karoke & comedy. Is there a fee for headphones in the club?
I’m so jealous; wish I could join for that sailing as it sounds wonderful! :)
Keep in mind Carnival has rolled out new vegan menus with so many delicious options. Last night, I had a vegan spaghetti and meatball that I had to double check wasn’t real! It was that good. So… if you’re like me, you might gain a pound or… seven. lol
In terms of the spa, it’s really just the sauna and a small spa tub and some steam showers that are in the lockerroom. I’m not sure I’d call it a spa - especially if you’ve ever had an actual spa on a cruise ship. It’s just nice to have these included in the cruise fare!
There’s plenty of activities, including karaoke! And, no, you don’t have to rent the headphones for silent disco. They do ask that you check them out. Then, if you don’t return them (which I’m not sure why anyone wouldn’t return them!) they charge you.
Thanks for the questions!!! Makes me miss this ship even more!
@thiscruiselife tku so much for your reply. Eases my anxiety. Too bad you can't join us. Any packing tips?
@@sultrysinger Don't forget to pack your mask for the Captain's reception. Sailing from New York will be chilly, but hopefully the weather will cooperate once you get down to the Bahamas. Aside from that, bring an appetite and have an amazing cruise!
Tku I'm so ready. Gonna have a drink n salute you for your tips. Watcha drinking? Frfr
Did they have the same wine selection or more??
I was sailing with a buddy who doesn’t drink, so I didn’t even think to grab a scan of the wine menu! 🤦♂️ Next time we’re on we’ll be sure to grab it!
Just to let you know we just sailed and if anyone ask you, they actually have more than the normal wine selection. They had some Italian ones which were very good.
Didn’t find any of the Italian food or the new burgers worth anything.
My only other comment that I don’t know why you never mentioned is that the theater is very pretty but it’s got a lot of area that you can’t see the stage.
Is the sauna co Ed?
Hello! Thanks for tuning in. Because the sauna is located in each of the locker rooms, it is not co-ed. Hope that helps! -mark
I just got off the ship 2 days ago and I will never sale with carnival again! The ship felt very small, you couldn't get into the pools because they were small, the food was mediocre to average, so many hidden costs and very poor design on the outside decks and on the 10th floor by the food areas. The floors were so slippery because of this bad design, passenger after passenger falling and hurting themselves.
The shows were like high school musicals. The staff were very nice other than a few security officers , and the other passengers were lovely.
I was extremely disappointed, having been on carnival one time prior 15 or so years ago and loved it. Overall quality has gone way down! For me it's back to Royal Caribbean or I might even try Virgin. Also completely disorganized when boarding.
Hey there! I had a friend on your sailing! :) I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have a great experience on Carnival Venezia. I definitely try to warn folks that this is not your typical Carnival ship. My friend Monica messaged me near the end of the cruise and said, “I love this ship!! I have to book it again!! I have been planning since I got here!! I love Lido and deck 11!!”
We watched you sail away from NYC. We were on MSC Meraviglia, and I can confirm, the decks were SUPER slippery. We also saw several folks fall (including myself, but I caught myself on a railing thankfully). I don't think cruise ship decks were designed for snowfall. Tho, ours was also slippery when it rained; always hold onto handrails, for sure.
Did you see Color My World on Carnival Venezia? That's one of my favorite shows out there - but I also realize, just like Broadway, everyone has a different taste (I'm one of the few that doesn't absolutely love The Lion King).
Glad to hear the crew and passengers were lovely. That makes a big big difference. :)
Lastly, we can't recommend Virgin Voyages enough. We booked another while we were on board and just booked a 3rd sailing. It's not for everyone though - hopefully our review on that will shed some light for you.
I truly do believe there is a cruise ship and line out there for everyone. So much variety. That's what we love about this cruise life of ours - exploring and finding the perfect match. -Mark
Great review. However not a fan of the liar Stephanie Duffy and John Heald. These two individuals are single handedly responsible for the failing brand. Agree with your comment about the horrible pasta on the Carnival Venezia. There is really nothing Italian about the ship except that there are a few Italian paintings in the stateroom and casinos. The comedy venues are extremely small with long lines going deep into the casino. Overall an overhyped ship not meant for the US market.
Hey there! Sorry that you did not enjoy Venezia. I thought the Atrium was tremendously well-themed with Italian flare. It definitely had a more upscale feel versus other Carnival ships - whether someone would consider that Italian or not is up for debate. The staterooms were indeed gorgeous.
Sailing, I did comment that I was curious how this ship would be received in the US market. I loved it and am already booked on 3 sailings of sister Carnival Firenze! :)
Thanks for watching and sharing your honest thoughts and feedback! -mark
Horrible food!!!
Oh no! We absolutely loved Tomodoro Mexitalian, the new options at Guy’s Burger Joint, La Strada Grill, and multiple options in the MDR. With that said, the pastas definitely left something to be desired.
What food spots did you try on board? Were there specifics you didn’t enjoy?
Each to their own but looks like my idea of hell. Food looks like slop. The whole thing looks like a tacky dated floating casino.
Oh no; I’m sorry that the photos/videos I selected left you with that impression. I wish I could reply to a comment with some photos from the Main Dining Room and specialty restaurants as most of food looked absolutely fantastic! I don’t mind my food touching from a buffet, so you likely see plates piled high in some of the review! Lol ;)
In terms of the look of the ship, I can say, it definitely didn’t give off a tacky feel walking through. I wish a video or photo did better justice to just how grand the space feels based on its size!
Thanks for tuning in; appreciate the comment! -Mark
Just off this ship -it is the most disgusting , dirty , outdated ship I have ever been on in my 23 cruises! People were gross , rude, staff was unfriendly.. but could be caused by being fed up with rude people. Food gross!. . Dining room looked like a ugly , outdated convention center
I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the ship. I didn't find it outdated, disgusting, or dirty at all. In fact, she just went through a massive dry dock, so unless New York has been extra hard on the ship, I'm not sure what would explain the condition you experienced. I'm bummed you didn't enjoy the ship itself. It's also disappointing to hear your experience with the staff; we were regularly called by name and still stay in touch with several crew members we met on board. Overall, sounds like it wasn't the ship for you, however, I'll be sailing her again as we loved Carnival Venezia and feel much differently about the design of the ship. Across 50 cruises, she's one of my favorites! Hopefully the next one is better for you. -Mark
@@thiscruiselife Everything sparkled when we were on it they cleaned every corner of it. It was completly re done to the italian theme so it was like a new ship not sure what ship the above poster went on..lol The smoke and ventalation climate control needs to be re vamped . The beds were hard as rocks too. The entertainment was great and the food for the most part was very good. Staff was wonderful. We were on a 15 day cruise out of New York.
Ann, you must be a Karen! Just came off the ship and it was gorgeous. The crew were all fabulous, friendly, and helpful. Crew was constantly cleaning and very friendly. YOU were probably the RUDE person. Give rude get rude back. It's painfully obvious you have no clue on how to cruise. Maybe if you went to a public pool and had your vacation around it, you would be happier. Maybe you should look inside yourself and try to be a happier person, as I'm sure the people around you try to ignore your presents.
